The pay kinda sucks, but if you're single and ok with living in a stuido apartment or with some roommates it's not completely awful. What the term is really talking about is the tenancy to blame, downplay, or even flat out not believe women when they've been sexually assaulted or raped. It's speaking out against the people that blame women's apparel. It's speaking out against men who try to get women intoxicated just so she'll be more complacent with their sexual advances. Is rape celebrated and encouraged in the U.S? Yes it really is as basic as these kids have never know respect and need to be taught it. As i said, shoulds and oughtas don't fix the problem. I teach at an inner city school in Philly and there are VERY few instances where a kid does something that heinous out of no where. Instead of addressing the root of the problem districts have a tenancy to slap an IEP on a kid and just push them through the grades without helping them. It's easy to say "well kids should just know better" but the simple fact is they don't and if they aren't taught better then this type of incident is what happens. I too used financial aid for transportation as I went to CC for 2 years and had to commute. I'm currently paying $325 a month and I'm able to live just fine like this. I could have definitely pinched pennies and owed less (I was totally one of those idiots who used some of the money for beer), but honestly I probably wouldn't change a thing.
