The NN didn't get rounds of facing fodder and midcarders this contest due to them being seeded into the Legends Bracket, where they faced division winners only, so it makes sense their winrate was lower this year. For the first time, however, a normal non rally or joke character beat the middle and even upper Noble Nine, beating 3 in a row in Snake, Sonic, and Mario.

Yeah I think things were set up perfectly for Cloud, avoiding Samus and facing Zelda after she was beaten by Link and Mario after the Mario/Samus match. Not sure if either of Cloud's wins would have flipped if we had the matches in a different order, but I seriously doubt Cloud could have taken Samus at any point in the contest.

That said, Samus loses to 2 characters (Link and Mario), and maybe Zelda. Call it 2.5 characters. Cloud loses to 2 characters (Link and Samus). And Cloud actually won the loser's bracket as well, so I'm fine with calling Cloud our #2.

Do you need to activate an option on the settings for you to be registered under certain country/state?

It appears that the map for Mexico is very bugged. Given that the DF is the largest region in Mexico by population, it's really strange that there aren't any votes from there. I went back through past polls, and it's been like that for the past few months of polls. I might have to report this issue to Allen eventually.

I noticed a few matches ago that Rio De Janeiro was coming in at 100% for one of the characters (the one that was losing in Brazil). I know our votals have collapsed, but I can't imagine they've fallen off so hard that we are getting single digits from Rio either.

As far as "problems" inside divisions go, that doesn't seem like a good reason to adjust things. It's been 5 years since our last character battle and we have way fewer voters now, we should expect there to be a lot of change. The Legends and Losers brackets all seem pretty consistent, with the Samus/Snake match standing out as wonky. But it wouldn't seem half as strange as the Mario/Samus matches if we hadn't discussed Mario/Samus endlessly for the past 13 years and have a lot of theories about what's happening in Mario/Samus now.

My suggestion: give Snake the average of his results through Zelda and Samus, and extrapolate Samus through Tifa.

Then why couldn't Zelda exploit it?

Really think Samus/Zelda would be an enlightening match and we were so close to getting it.

My guess would be, much less of Zelda's strength comes from Smash. But I guess I have to play Breath of the Wild to understand Zelda's huge surge in strength this year.

The board vote on this one was remarkable. Mario jumped almost 4% on the 2nd update. Whereas he dropped a bit under 1% against Sephiroth. Zelda's early vote against Link was also remarkable - the speed at which she fell was actually outpacing L-Block for a few hours.

Oh, creative must have input those in manually at some point. If you look at a bunch of the matches, you can see large gaps between updates (like 7 hours in Magus/Ganondorf), which is when no one was recording updates on the update topic on Board 8. I do rather miss the update topics - and I think their decline is a big reason we started getting so many more posts in the stats topic in 2004/5. Before that, ongoing match discussion was spread across the board but centered on the update topics, while the stats topic was reserved for "serious" stats stuff.

You don't have the updater for 2002

Mario/Cloud 2002 was THE match of the contest. Cloud got more votes that day than any previous contestant in any Gamefaqs contest, even the 90%+ blowout winners, and lost. And this was immediately after 2 other close matches in Sonic/Samus and Sephiroth/Megaman and immediately preceding a kind of close one in Crono/Snake. In a couple years I'll remember Mario/Cloud 2002 better than today.
