Have you ever felt afraid for your safety during a call? What happened?

Have you ever hosted a ride-along, like having a civilian in your car seeing what you do during your shift? If you havent, would you want to or would you prefer not to? I ask because a family member is a civilian police employee and got to do a ride-along recently, and I wondered how officers feel doing that, like if they worry for their guests safety. Her ride was boring. They were at a domestic call for a few hours and she had to stay in the car (not that she wanted to be out in the middle of the feuding couple).

I know you probably see many of the same people / criminals over and over again. Do some of them ever contact you to report a fellow criminal or help you in any way? Are you kind of on friendly terms with anyone you arrest frequently?

Have you had to testify in court? How do you feel about having to do that?

It was definitely a trash movie. I think I was around 16 when I saw it, and I only rented it because it was really talked up and some people whose opinions I respected were saying it was good.

It was not.

I appreciate, though, how the director managed to convince everyone that his mostly nonsensical movie was actually super deep, by releasing some sort of booklet explaining (inventing) the plot post-theatrical release after it did poorly. Thats a good tactic, but even watching it knowing what the intention of the plot was (I read a synopsis online), it still wasnt actually good. It wasnt even nice to look at, besides the Frank bunny design which I suppose is cool. It just really failed on all levels to be in any way worth watching.

There was a similar case in Canada a few years ago, I think in Calgary but I cant remember for sure. Some guy who had been renting a house found a legal loophole that essentially made it possible for him to claim ownership of the house when the real owner tried to evict him. The police werent able to do anything about it. At the point where this was on the news, I believe the owner was trying to take the squatter to court but there were issues even with that. If I recall correctly the squatter was claiming the land the house was on was now his own sovereign nation. It was pretty crazy. Ill see if I can find a news article.

The idiot moved into a rental home, declared it an embassy of his sovereign nation and even had the nerve to bill the actual owner for work done to the home which was really just him wrecking stuff and changing the locks on her.

It seems that the police were able to arrest him eventually, not for the home takeover but due to an outstanding warrant. He had done the same thing to another property owner and assaulted her when she confronted him, which left her with broken bones. So he was arrested for that assault and the other losers who had moved into the house with him eventually admitted the house didnt belong to them and they left.

Which side? I had pain in my right side, into my front and back, and I ended up having to get my gallbladder out.

Now Ive got pain on my left side, mostly in the front, but every doctor Ive seen has been pretty useless. They dont know what it is and dont care to try to figure it out. I think its my liver or pancreas but my blood tests are normal so I guess Im just supposed to pretend Im not in pain. Also apparently liver pain is usually in your right side.

You might as well go to your doctor. A simple blood test will check that your liver is functioning properly, and an ultrasound will show any gallstones. I had to get a CT scan too and something called a HIDA scan before my surgery, to figure out how bad the gallstone situation was and if my gallbladder was even functioning at that point.

I did my 4 years of university wearing heeled ankle boots almost every day. There were two walkways in particular that were extremely uneven cobblestone, and of course, I had at least one class in the buildings nearby every single semester. After nearly rolling an ankle twice, I learned to keep a close eye on where I was stepping. It was even worse in the winter with all the ice.

For all the money the school sucks out of students, and their apparent love of construction (theres always at least one building under construction), youd think they could fix the damn walkway but nooo, they had to build a second gym instead.

That said, Ive never read Iron Man comics and my introduction to the character was the first movie, so I didnt have any expectations for Mandarin or know that he was meant to be a super important villain. I just found the situation with Trevor really funny.

Iron Man 2, on the other hand, was not good. Interestingly almost everyone Ive ever talked to either loves 2 and hates 3, or the opposite. No one seems to like both but everyone likes the first movie.

She doesnt look 20. She looks around 27 - 28, which is still great considering her actual age.

I see in one picture shes holding a bottle of SK-II facial essence. Thats a very popular high end product in Asian skincare and sells for around $200 Canadian. With that plus a good moisturizer, sunscreen, and a few serums, shes probably got a $700+ skincare routine. Anyone whos got the income to support that kind of spending should look youthful; theyre not slaving away at a low-income crap job, theyve probably got benefits and good healthcare, and can afford vacations and personal time to minimize stress.

Wearing sunscreen daily is probably whats making the biggest impact product-wise. Unlike North America, in Asia sunscreen is seen as something that should be used every day regardless of the season, even if youre indoors most of the day, and reapplied regularly. If you can see the sun, even through the window, it can damage your skin. Their sunscreens are also made with higher quality ingredients than most American sunscreens and offer more protection. Asians tend to stay youthful looking for longer than people of other cultures and while Im sure diet has a role in this, daily use of sunscreen which prevents skin cell damage from both the sun and the light from your computer / phone screen, is probably the biggest factor.

I really do tbh. I understand that people have a lot to say about the joys of raising children but I literally cant imagine feeling the way they say they do. Like Ill picture myself having a child and I either feel nothing or I feel revulsion, depending on part of child raising Im imagining.

I dont hate kids but I dont want any and since Ive never felt even a small desire to have children, its definitely hard for me to accept that 99.9% of people seem to really, really want a child and its an actual goal.

I had this problem at my last job, except I wasnt the only one who was cold, it was just that management wouldnt do anything about it (their private offices were warm) and most of my coworkers were in the field the majority of the day so it didnt bother them enough to speak up. I was literally wearing four pullover sweaters layered, plus an additional large cardigan, every single day through the winter. My hands dont usually get too cold so I was fine just holding my coffee cup for a few seconds if I needed to warm my fingers. I looked ridiculous, and it was actually warmer outside in the snow when Id go for a walk during my break.

My boss said a few people got portable space heaters to put under their desks, so maybe you can try that? I didnt bother. I wasnt planning to stay there more than a few months and I didnt feel it was reasonable for me to have to buy a heater when they were literally running the air conditioning in the middle of winter (the air needs to circulate!). I just piled on the sweaters and always had a warm drink ready.

My 68-year-old father had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his bowel in early July and hes super pleased with himself now because hes lost 30lbs. Hes overweight and weve been telling him for years he needs to be more active and get healthy, so of all the dumbass things to do, he decided while in the hospital post-surgery that he was going to go on a diet and basically stopped eating and drinking completely. This resulted in a prolonged hospital stay, one week at home which ended in an ambulance ride because he actually injured his kidneys from not drinking water and got pretty sick, over a week in hospital, three days at home, another 911 call because he blacked out and fell hard and couldnt get up (I was the only one home with him at the time), another week and a half in the hospital, and now hes been home for a few days. Hes finally eating again but all he wants to drink is soda, and hes all angry that every person he tells about his weight loss keeps telling him thats really bad and not the right way to lose weight.

Taking care of a stubborn elderly parent is such fun. /s

My mother has also been losing a lot of weight, unintentionally, but she has ulcerative colitis and the stress from my father and I being ill (I got sick suddenly last summer and just never got better, I keep seeing doctors and no one can figure out whats wrong) is really getting to her. She takes her health seriously though and shes seeing doctors and making sure nothing bads going on. She had a bowel tumor too, last year, but thankfully it was non-cancerous. Its so important for people of all ages, but especially older adults, to get regular check-ups.

You keep saying that all you wanted was to show her a good time for the two days, and also to make a pitch to her about getting back together which you knew shed say no to but you were okay with that, so I guess you just wanted some final monologue as if you were in a movie. Fine, whatever. And you also expected sex, which is a weird expectation from a girl who broke up with you months ago, but apparently she brought it up so I guess if she didnt want that, she wouldve said so.

So if I take what youve been saying at face value, then I dont understand why youre so upset now. Why would the fact that shes just started seeing someone prevent you from having your final date and having the sex you already agreed upon, and saying your piece that you already knew wouldnt change anything? You can still do all of these things and the outcome will be what you claim you knew and accepted it would be. Nothing has changed.

It seems to me that the reality is, you havent accepted that shes not with you anymore. The fact that you expect sex from her when she broke up with you a while ago is a good indicator of that. And your expectation for her visit was that either youd change her mind and shed take you back, or youd put enough doubt in her mind that she wouldnt pursue a new relationship right away, thus giving you more time to find a way to convince her to get back with you. Your insistence that your holding onto her stuff was a nice thing you were doing for her, was actually you trying to maintain some control over her because you knew shed have to come see you again to get it. If it was just something you were doing as a friend, you wouldnt keep bringing it up as evidence of how youve been good to her since the breakup.

Your claim that shes disrespecting you either by having a new partner or telling you she has a new partner, is stupid. You two are supposed to be friends now and friends tell each other about new people in their lives. Shes respecting you as her friend. Shes also respecting your past relationship status by allowing you to have your final date and say what you need to say to her face to face, which most women definitely wouldnt do. You need to be more respectful of her and understand that she is not your girlfriend anymore and she doesnt owe you anything. Shes not denying you your closure at all. Shes denying your not-so-secret hopes of getting back together, which I understand hurts you and I have sympathy, but you need to accept reality and start moving on.

I think you should consider not being friends with her after her visit. Its obviously hard for you to move on from this four-year relationship and talking to her every day is just making it harder. Seeing her with a new partner is going to hurt you. I have a feeling you want to remain friends only because youre hoping to get back with her, not because youre actually okay with being just friends for the rest of your lives as she gets married to someone else, has children, etc. Cutting all ties may be the best thing for you. Think it over.

When she comes to see you, enjoy your time together. Dont be bitter. Its the last time youll see her so leave it off on a good note and be grateful for your shared memories.

How does one get to be 87 and not realize that when the police are yelling at you, and even gesturing with their own pocket knife so as to show you what to do, and now theyre drawing their tasers ... maybe you should drop your weapon and put your hands up?? Thats pretty damn standard no matter which country youre from or what language you speak.

Its unfortunate that she was tased and shes lucky she wasnt seriously injured or killed. Being elderly and non-English-speaking isnt an excuse for being a dumbass though. Or maybe she was mentally ill, like with schizophrenia, which would excuse her lack of comprehension but still justify the police response because a mentally ill person who isnt perceiving reality and is holding a knife is reasonably threatening and they have a protocol to follow.

There was a very similar case to this in my hometown a few years ago, but the woman involved was a bit younger. It made me wonder, could the police not just get one of those big SWAT shields and some protective padding for their hands and arms, and just charge at / tackle the person? Again, they have to follow protocol and I dont object with the use of tasers but I do wonder if some alternate options should be explored and implemented. Even the beanbag or plastic bullet guns they have might be better than risking giving an old lady a heart attack, but I guess the flip side is those other options will almost certainly break bones whereas the taser causes less damage assuming it doesnt kill you.

If you grew up listening to punk music and you still managed to become a Trump supporter, AND decided to go to a punk show and disrespect the performers, you need some sense knocked into you.

Most artists are liberals. Its been that way all throughout history. Its been clear right from Trumps inauguration, which almost no band or artist wanted to perform at, that the music community is overwhelmingly anti-Trump, and that was before he even did anything impactful. Actors dont like him, comedians dont like him; the overwhelming majority of the Arts community is anti-Trump and theyre not particularly kind to even their own peers who have a difference in opinion. Punk is one of the most politically-charged genres of music, very liberal, and is also known for being both a vocally and physically aggressive community. If you go to a punk show and make it known that you support Trump, you know what youre asking for. Dont complain about it later.

It used to be my favourite tv show but its really gone downhill. Still, at least a couple times each season theres a perfect moment and I remember why I loved it to begin with.

Instead of hoping for it to end, I wish theyd just hire a really good writer and come up with a 3-5 season arc the way Kripke did so theyre not just throwing random ideas around and having boring garbage villains. Their seasonal villains are pathetic and theres no real threat to them. The filler episodes carry more weight than the main plot now, because its actually more likely that a main character could be seriously injured or killed by some regular run-of-the-mill monster.

Id love to see it go for 18+ seasons, especially now that theyve got Jack whos helping to bring a new dynamic to the show, but theyve got to step up the writing quality A LOT. If its going to be like the last few seasons, they should just wrap it up in a year or two. Let it end on as much of a high note as it can at this point, being almost run into the ground already. And the ending has to be Sam & Deans permanent deaths. I dont want any bs riding into the sunset. We all know theyre going to eventually be killed by some creature. Thats their real ending and I want to see it.

Considering that most people know youll be seriously injured by jumping out of a moving vehicle, it makes me wonder what was going on in the car that she decided to face those injuries (especially as a nursing student) instead of staying put. If she made that decision, that is. The only statement is, of course, from the much older boyfriend whose behaviour doesnt make much sense.

Lets say hes telling the truth; they argued and she jumped. Why would you not stop immediately and make sure shes okay? Why not call a friend to come check on her if youre so mad that you dont want to face her? Why, the next day, would you assume she would still be there and actually go there to look as opposed to calling the police or EMS? Especially since her body had already been found. Why would it take you 24 hours to look for her to begin with?

What probably happened was either, they were fighting and he pushed her out of the car, then returned the next day after hearing her body was found in order to look more innocent. Or, he was abusing her, maybe threatening to hurt her more severely when they reached their destination, and she jumped out to try to save herself. Or maybe she was dead in the car already and he dumped her body. But his version of events only makes sense if they were both extremely inebriated and he probably wouldve at least told the officers that she was inebriated when they arrested him.

Eliminating all crimes is the most half assed way of dealing with a problem. We need to strengthen our borders and keep heroin and cocaine from coming in. Christ, are you people gonna start trying for a wall against CANADA now?

Ive been in favor of having one from the start. Im sure they dont want US citizens coming over, bring our ways and our opinions. Fentanyl comes from Canada because their pharmaceutical system is worse than Mexicos. You basically say what you want and leave without any trouble. They buy it there and bring it down here where people cant get it, and a lot comes through Quebec, directly into New England. Thats why fentanyl deaths are most common near Canada.

Hahahahahahaha Yes, I just go to the pharmacy and tell them I want opioids and they just give it to me. Thats definitely how it works.

For those who actually think its easy to get controlled drugs in Canada, earlier this year I had my gallbladder removed. I was prescribed a small amount of Tylenol 3s, which I ended up having an allergic reaction to the day after which was a Friday. I was told Id have to see my surgeon after the weekend to get a different prescription approved. By Sunday I was in severe pain and vomiting and ended up in the ER where after a few hours with an IV, I got a new prescription for Tramadol, about a week and a halfs worth. After that I just used regular Tylenol until I didnt have pain anymore.

Doctors here are very wary about opioid prescriptions, especially with the Fentanyl crisis, and pharmacists cant even switch you from one type to another without your doctor approving it. Theres no telling the pharmacist what you want and just getting it, like I cant even tell them Ive got a cold and need Azithromycin even though Ive had it many times before. If its not OTC you have to see your doctor and get a prescription. You also cant just tell your doctor I want X drug and expect to get it, to be clear.

By the way, that ER visit cost me a grand total of $9 for parking, and I think the Tramadol was around $30. My surgery cost $0. How much in debt would I be if Id been American, I wonder?

You cant know how she feels unless you talk about it. Its really best to always ask before deciding to give someone the girlfriend / boyfriend title anyway, because people really do have very different ideas about relationships and boundaries and you could easily cause upset and embarrassment if you just assume.

Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails (industrial / electronic / rock). A concept album about Americas possible future, written during the Bush era yet surprisingly and disappointingly just as on point today. Its got a lot of great tracks - Capital G and Me Im Not are two of my favourites and the albums main single, Survivalism, is also excellent.

Cruel Melody by Black Light Burns (alternative rock). Kind of a loose concept album. The singer / writer is Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit fame. The album goes from loud and aggressive at the beginning to slower and quieter by the end. Its nice to listen to before bed for that reason. 4 Walls, Mesopotamia, and I Am Where It Takes Me are good tracks to check out.

Entertainment by Waterparks. Its a solid pop-punk album, definitely not heavy listening but its not lighthearted either. The singer wrote it mostly about his relationship with his girlfriend at the time, his love for her, and dealing with self-doubt and insecurities related to being with someone. He found out shortly before the album released that she had been cheating on him. Its interesting hearing these songs where hes open and honest about his insecurities but still hopeful and happy, and knowing now that the reality was she didnt care about him much. It definitely makes certain songs darker. Check out Rare and Lucky People.

Strata presents The End Of The World, by Strata (indie / alternative rock), is another great concept album. Its basically about a man having a night in the city, having a drink with the Devil, and reflecting on his feelings about life, politics, and family. I love listening to this one at night and timing it just right so the last track is playing as the sun is coming up. Hot / Cold (Darling Dont), Poughkeepsie NY, and Coma Therapy are some standouts but this one really works best if you listen from start to finish.

Ok so she kept her teaching license, but shes on the sex offender registry - who will hire her? Every teaching job requires a background check now. They shouldve just taken her license, for symbolism at least considering its useless now either way.

I wish women would just start physically assaulting men who threaten them for misogynistic reasons. I guarantee these things would happen significantly less often if on a regular basis women beat the everloving shit out of guys who approach them on the street to harass them.

Such a brave man, driving around with no license plate so as not to be identified, threatening to harm a woman for not covering her hair. Imagine as soon as those words left his mouth, all the nearby women surrounding him and giving him a good curbstomping. Hed never do it again.

They do it because they know women are harmless, just like women know men are dangerous. Id love to see that social perception change in my lifetime.

Hes lucky they didnt close his dick in the window. Wouldve taught him a very effective lesson about keeping it in his pants. Hes also very lucky no one in the car was underage because both the charges and the jail time wouldnt be too fun for him.
