Want more people engaged in the political and voting process? Stop shoving socialism down peoples throats. Stop using the media to try to brainwash and indoctrinate people.

It has more to do with how everyone can recognize that their vote doesn't matter, if who they vote for is ultimately decided by a barely democratic process, and who the politicians talk to once elected is a whole bunch of not them. This government is a capitalist dream, everything is for sale for the highest bidder. Then anything that suggests any reform of such a system is shouted down as some bogeyman. Socialism being a big one, even though, not too sure how "every vote is counted" is necessarily a socialist principle.

Catering your message to what polls suggests is popular in the here and now will lead to some real shitty policies.

But losing on an unpopular message will lead to literally no policies. The first priority is power. And it's not like there's not very popular issues that Democrats can promise, win on, and perform, issues that are far better than, "ABOLISH ICE" and its 1 and 4 approval. You don't literally have to promise everything you are going to do before you run for office.

You'd have to be dense to think a shared comic universe is something the MCU invented. Especially in a world where the DCAU existed.

They didn't invent it, but that's not my argument. DC didn't suddenly shift their movie strategy without at all thinking about how MCU was a thing. They wanted part of the action. To think it all just came about independently is bizarre.

"Abolish ICE" is not the same message as "Restore INS" no matter how much you want to run your mouth about it. But you've got Obama fever again. Her plan is to restore INS which functions as part of the Department of Justice. Shes stated this literally hundreds of times by now. Its on her website. No need to lie about this.

Voters don't read the website. If your plan is to restore INS, then make the slogan "Restore INS"... but she wanted to be a little firebrand about it, and it backfired. She continues to nationalize her office. Nationalizing the office = Republican win. Constituent service = Democrat win. She is very inspired by Bernie, but does nothing that made him so popular in Vermont. She seems to continually enter the arena on Republican terms, which is a loser strategy.

Michael Jackson went from the biggest entertainer ever to quiet R&B again, because of the kid stuff.

I think OJ is number one, I remember people talking about it all the time, and there was a hilarious MadTV skit about it that I remembered was hilarious but was never able to see again until YouTube came out (be thankful kids, YouTube is the holy father).

It works in comic book stories. Not in movies that work best carrying a certain visual motif and tone. Mix it all together and it looks shitty.

It's been done twice by a bad director. The medium doesn't determine whether or not it works, it's the competence of the person telling the story.

A movie can't both be Serpico and His Girl Friday at the same time. Trying to mix tones like that is like dunking cookies in Worcestershire sauce. It doesn't matter how good the chef is, it's not going to made tasty unless you change either of those things to be something they are not. Everything has to be a cinematic universe now, it's a hip thing (and Hollywood loves it because then they can sell you at the end of every movie, instead of giving you a true ending). But if DC actually wants to challenge Marvel, they should do it by making great, standalone movies of different tones. You know, like it worked all of those years before they saw Marvel and then changed everything.

i love comics but there comes a point when you are spending way too much money on the hobby and you should realize you are probably buying a lot of stuff you couldn't care less about and continue to do so out of a habit

But that justification is still the justification of a stupid person. Even if I made a million dollars a day, I wouldn't waste even a small amount of money just to prove I had it. If someone is overcharging you and you deal with it because you've got so much money, you're a stupid person and you might not have money for long.

Ironically, I was the same. I just saw Principal and the Pauper as another episode and didn't give it another thought as they concluded it with the joke, "let's never mention this again"
and so was surprised to find out years later just how much it was despised.

I guess for them it boils down to, changing the narrative of a major character. I had the same reaction, too. There's some episodes I actually really don't like from the good era of Simpsons, but that was never one of them.

Maybe it's an age thing? I was 11 when that first aired so didn't really give it much thought whereas I saw the Fat Tony episode a few years back and the character switch just really irked me which may have to do with my more analytical approach to watching tv and film as an adult.

I think that might be part of it, older people tend to complain more, but I thought it was a good episode because it sheds light on the relationship between Skinner and his mother, and explains why it's such a strong bond through its device of breaking the narrative. When before that episode, there really wasn't much explained about their relationship other than a bunch of throwaway Psycho type gags. I'm pretty far away from the consensus on it actually, it's one of my favorite episodes about Skinner.

The irony is that Seth MacFarlane wanting to be a Star Trek captain is the whole reason it got made in the first place. That Fat Tony death episode doesn't get enough shit. As polarising as Principal and the Pauper was, at least they didn't do something as dumb as killing off the original character and then replacing him with a different character who becomes his doppelgnger anyway making it a completely pointless death.

That was one of the few plotlines from the non-good portion of the series that I actually thought sounded kind of clever. But I guess I also liked Principal and the Pauper, and never understood the fanboy outrage over the episode.

Also to show you that there are answers to some of the things IMDb finds fascinating, The Shawshank Redemption is routinely in the top five movies because it was one of the first movies to hit number one on the website, because it was ignored by everyone other than the Internet word-of-mouth. I think it's a solid 7 movie that didn't deserve to fail, but best of all time is a joke.

It seems like you might just have terrible opinions.

OK maybe it's more like an 8, now that I think about it, but it has a lot of corny crowd-pleasing moments. But I'm not even saying Shawshank is a terrible movie, but is it a full point better than a movie like Persona? Unless you don't watch a lot of movies, no.

Watch more movies and maybe you'll understand what a bad movie is one day

I have seen well over 300 movies just this year. I do intentionally watch poorly regarded movies as part of that. I find it more frustrating when a big budget Hollywood movie with major stars isn't able to get it right, compared to a bunch of amateurs that found there way into a small amount of funds. I'm willing to overlook more in the latter case. I just can't understand when movies are financed with tens of millions of dollars when they are so undercooked with elementary plot mistakes.

Which honestly, if you were to ask me what Nolan film I like the best, it is Batman Begins. More than The Dark Knight, in fact.

But yeah, I'm glad you brought that up because I didn't even think to check that score because I assumed that The Dark Knight Rises is so bad that the Nolan halo effect would wear off. An 8.5, lmao. That movie was bad.

No, it answers the question quite specifically. You asked why it was so highly rated, and I told you exactly why.

I can also surmise that the movie is rated so highly because many clicked on the 10 button, but if you told me that, that again doesn't explain a phenomenon that well. Nolan consistently gets very high inflated marks compared to the critics and even other audience scoring sites, and I'm wondering if Nolan was a IMDb user at some point or what. I mean, is Inception really a better film than Casablanca?

It doesn't change the fact that you're wrong, and that people will respect you less for it, but you're certainly free to have them.

Critics are more divided than audiences. People that actually watch movies for a living can see that the twist is lame. But I'm with general audiences for the first hour when the movie is setting up. Set-up is excellent. But that twist.
