Then why are housing expenses (rent/mortgage) so damn expensive down there? Wouldn't the banks and realtor want to fill those residences to make money, or are they just purposely gouging the prices due to greed? Doing the latter not only makes them less money overall, it also contributes to higher rates of homelessness

We are the epitome of greed...there is no such thing as "affordable" housing.

Not anymore, anyway.

Rent for a basic apartment (from what I gather) is $600/mo and min. wage jobs are not much more.

Also, panhandling is a crime, btw. No matter what.
