Amazing show from what I saw (someone no showed at work and I had to stay an extra five hours).

- Samoa Joe vs. Styles was good from what I saw, and dialed up to 11 in the final minutes.
- Becky vs. Charlotte vs. Carmella was excellent. Great heeling by Carmella, great fighting between all three, excellent match all around. Only disappoint is if Becky went full heel, but otherwise, loved everything and the crowd fed it well.
- Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke was fun.
- Daniel Bryan vs. Miz is both the best thing on the show, and somehow quaint after the Gargano-Ciampa bloodfeud.
- Really, really, really loved Ronda Rousey. She really is like the second coming of Kurt Angle with a meteoric rise to comfortability in the performance role while already locked down in legitimate powerhouse in the ring. Her goading of Alexa was soooo good, and letting Alexa lock her in a headlock as her eyes slowly open at the camera... holy mother of god.
- Demon Finn Balor. Nuff said.
- As great as Braun was, and as solid and pumped it got Roman vs. Brock, all I can think of, when Roman was pinning Lesnar...

Also, I'm not seeing any information that Shaman is mutant. Ultimate Marvel Shaman, sure, but most of Alpha flight aren't actual mutants. He's just a shaman and a doctor.

Meanwhile, we have Forge, who is very tenuously magical at best, and I'm not really a fan of his role on a magic team.

And I'm cutting Forge. You want a Native American? MANITOU RAVEN. I feel like he's going to be popping up on these lists way too much.

I actually like Forge on this kind of team. He has misgivings about magic and shamanism and Vietnam horror stories and veers towards tech. He can have those moments where his magical side is needed, but giving them some tech on the side can help balance things out a bit. I also see him as Bones in this kind of set-up where he's just a sarcastic stick in the mud who provides alternative viewpoints to this mages' guild.

And if we really want someone native, why does it have to be American? Why not Canadian and bring in Shaman? Huh? Did you forget Shaman?

My biggest trouble with remembering Tocantins is I keep thinking of the Gabon golf course episode and thinking it's Tocantins because of the open highlands. So half the time I'm thinking of the Tocantins cast I'm like, "JT, Stephen, Tyson, Coach, Debbie, Matty..."

Explain the poker theming?

I'm not completely certain myself exactly my reasons for creating it, or at least following through when I hit a roadblock. The Thing, Human Torch, Wolverine, and Cannonball all played poker in a crossover issue I remember, and Carol Danvers was playing in something fairly recent, and I thought Booster Gold and Guy Gardner and Renee Montoya were good fits. It was less about poker, even though that's the name, and just a clubhouse JLI kind of team.

It definitely required more thought than I put in, and Gambit would likely have been kicked out for cheating (Booster too).

Man, I really don't remember this one. Definitely a low ranker for the off-the-cuff throwaway nom.

For purposes of this list, I wanted to rank the sole pre-made team lowly. I do want to reward originality, so while I realize that this was nominated simply out of curiosity, you are that cat, and it's killing you softly.

The question here is whether or not I like Mutant X and the rest of the universe.

No.

I mean, it was kind of fun. I do enjoy alternate reality comics. And I'm a huge sucker for Havok in any form or fashion. After all the single interesting person in that generation of Summers/Greys has to be worth something, right? The problem with the Mutant X version of the X-Men is that I came into that series having already discovered Exiles. And while Mutant X at least came out of the gate sooner than Exiles, it didn't beat, say, Age of Apocalypse. And these mutant-centric alternate realities all draw natural comparisons to one another. I found the writing on Mutant X too flimsy for the ideas it contained. That's Howard Mackie's problem. As a writer, he was focused primarily on Havok-in-Time! and less on what made these alternate versions of staple characters tick. I found that the chemistry for these all-new, all-different X-folks just wasn't well-established.

When I look at great alternate reality teams, Exiles of course comes to mind first. But within universes, the mutants have groups like Gambit and the X-Ternals and of course Ultimate X-Men, both of which stand head and shoulders above this group.

Fair. I was thinking about a team with Bloodstorm on it and trying to think of bad fate characters, but just kept coming back to The Six. It's definitely a team that doesn't work well (and falls apart in just a matter of issues), but I really enjoyed how it highlighted how things could've gone wrong for the team members with just a little bit of difference in circumstance. Bloodstorm, Ice-Man, and The Brute are wedged into my brain, especially that panel where Bob freaks the **** out when Alex tries to shake his hand. I thought it was a great first issue with excellent art and altered backstory, but it definitely fails quickly.

I think the most excited for comics I ever was as a kid was X-Men #80, Uncanny #360, and Mutant X #1. I didn't really follow up, but I was hooked on just those three comics for weeks.

Not at all sad to see this so low. The Exiles are indeed better in every way, though I still prefer this kind of alternate universe where things happen pretty much the same except for one aspect being off or absent (like not being able to save Storm or Loki never giving Bobby the ice belt) over the Ultimate universe, at least in concept since execution usually fails.

Also, the world needs more Ultimate Dazzler.

Oh man, I wish I didn't look at the other teams before they were ranked because all I wanna do is make commentary! Spoilers: One needs Metamorpho, another needs Adam X

I should probably stick to what we've already got, hmm...

The Bodyslamers - Yeaah... it really doesn't make it past the first page. That's just... I'm kind of interested in seeing the dynamics between Ben Grimm, Cain Marko, and Crusher Creel with Ben Grimm's heart and Yancy Street upbringings influencing Cain and Crusher through the school of hard knocks over time, but yeah, Abomination, Hulk, and Doomsday just ruin any chance of anything.

Big Guys Breaking Stuff - Utterly boring in comparison. There's nothing here to grab onto.

Badass Normals - No. This is just... there is nothing here I want to see as a team book. Maybe if they ruled five separate factions trying to take control of a city, I'd want to see that book for how alliances form and break, who they recruit, how dirty the heroes would get... I think that'd actually be a legitimately interesting read. But NOT a team book. And not with that name.

Gravy's Angels - No comment on why they were selected together, but this better have an artist supremely skilled in cosmic warfare. I don't think I'm interested in the line-up at all, but with all the different color power sets these guys have I really want to see some of the splash pages.

The Top Tier- Hilarious, but with the Doom and Batman specifics, it fails because that Sentinel isn't Mango.

Membership Drive: These Angels teams can't be adjusted because they are based on simplistic wish fulfillment.

Yeah, I get that. It was a sporadic "Ooh, that looked fun! I'll do that too!" without too much editing or thought before posting. I did try to keep things more balanced out than it would be if it were straight favorites. Like, my first three originally were Soranik Natu, Siryn, and Songbird and I immediately went, "No. That's stupid." I also just realized while lamenting I never nominated anyone from Alpha Flight at all in any of my five teams like I originally went in thinking I would do, Purple Girl/Persuasion could totally be on that roster, grr.

I won't be surprised to see it soon, but I did try to keep it balanced overall through personalities and powersets.

My next Angels team will definitely be better thought out (and highlight both Kara Kilgrave and Tempo).
