Also, as far as I can tell, he's not even saying the hearings should be closed, he's saying that loud, disruptive people should be tossed, he's lamenting they weren't, and apparently not aware they were. The "why do we allow protests" quote is in the middle of a wall of text that's talking about people yelling, so he's most likely referring to that.

So I'm going to be fair here. I don't like Trump, people should this by now, but this a non-story.

Its incredible how bipartisan everything, when you look at how the opposite, I mean, when you look at how the level of division between the two sides, its sort of incredible.

WaPo is being deceptive here by saying "He added" since that portion of the quote occurred before his later quote, the "why do we allow protests" quote, and when you look at the actual interview quotes there is the implication that Trump was not fully aware of how many had been disrupted at the time.

"He added" implies the second quote was after the first, but could be weasel'd legally since it was technically a statement he added onto a separate statement.

So I'd agree that this is #3, WaPo being deceptive, but they present in a way where quote 2 backs up quote 1, but quote 2 appears nonsensical since it implies he didn't know protesters were ejected when the full context of the article would explain why he didn't know (he wasn't following it closely, apparently)

I'll be fair: WaPo is a biased source. Perhaps there are quotes that better contextualized what Trump says, since what he says either way is a mess that doesn't really make sense.

It just makes more sense in the context of both quotes that he's generalizing protesters, since the second quote is contextualized by the fact that protesters were thrown yet, yet he implies they weren't, which means he's either referring to protesters collectively or he's an idiot who wasn't even aware disruptive protesters were ejected.

Let me understand this: When Trump is against the idea of protests, he's actually referring to protesters at confirmation hearings. Except, the next quote is -

In the old days, we used to throw them out. Today, I guess they just keep screaming.

...So he's saying that we shouldn't allow protests of confirmation hearings, and we used to handle this by throwing out protesters. Even though, by definition, a closed hearing would mean there are no protesters to throw out.

To add more confusion to this, the disruptive protesters WERE ejected, meaning the "They just keep screaming" part would likely be referring to the non-disruptive protesters in the context of his quote, where "screaming" is his interpretation of criticism since the actual screaming (i.e. disruptive) individuals were properly ejected.

Do you want them to shoot the entirety of the EVA footage even if it has nothing to do with what the film is going for? Why should a director have to place a segment of it into their movie, and how is omitting it historically inaccurate? Wouldn't omitting any of the EVA footage be inaccurate by that measure?

I've already covered why this (probably) isn't a political statement but I genuinely don't expect you to grasp that

like let me put it like this - if the film has a theme, then a director as competent as Chazelle is probably going to emphasize that theme. How important is nationalism & the nationalistic element of the space race to Armstrong? Is the piece more keen on fictionalizing him by extrapolating real things he's said to make the film more personal? How is the actual moon sequence depicted? If it's personal, for example, couldn't a flag planting scene interrupt an intended sequence or pacing intended by the director?

rubio isn't an artist, isn't a filmmaker, isn't a film critic, isn't a storytelling critic, etc, so I guess he's aiming at this from his plane of view, but feigned outrage over stylistic choices made by what is considered to be an excellent director is silly.

Also, it's 100% a human achievement, America has to thank the prior thousands of years of human technological advances and the many scientists & great thinkers that got us there. We don't own the moon, don't have a monopoly on it, etc. The flag planting part was part of the international space race, which is a footnote compared to how important space travel is and what a moon landing represents for the species.

Also, I can't help vs. Mario much. I can tell you what I personally hate fighting against. Some people hate fighting vs. Cloud or Bayo, but you go in knowing how towering they can be mid-game. Mario is deceptively fast and catches you off guard and often gets a lot of mileage, and can break out or punish you if you try to do the same. How to apply counterplay? I don't know, I suck vs. Mario lmao.

Take some solace insofar that everybody usually has a character they hate fighting and Mario is a commonly brought up example.

I'd suggest looking up Mario guides to maybe learn or understand counterplay but Ultimate is so close that there's really not too much of a point outside of prepping yourself for matchup study for Ultimate

My least favorite to fight is Mario followed by Marth
I feel like when I try to approach I just lose but when they approach I also lose. I just dunno anymore. I'm at my best after coming out of neutral because my characters can get off 50% in an exchange but I have trouble killing which is a problem my friends don't have. There are times where I get them to 110% with one stock with both my stocks left and then I lose because I couldn't finish it. Crossups fuck me up when Mario can just do a lagless tornado and go anywhere around you and hit again or drop and grab. Against the Marth I always feel so easily walled out and can't react to his FAir speed or his Dolphin Slash bullshit.

I have a lot of similar problems. I've tried to think it through. Mario is easily my least favorite character to fight, but I also try and gauge him against other characters I don't enjoy fighting. That tends to be -

-Characters that have little endlag/startup like Falcon or Mario who feels like that can CONSTANTLY pressure you. In Mario's case, it feels like he can do almost anything at any time.

-Projectile characters, but that's a product of me playing online where spamming Can/PK Fire (Lucas)/Villager's arsenal etc. are all easier and safer while power shielding is harder, so I don't think that's applicable to what you're dealing with.

I think a lot of it boils down to locking up mid-game. It constrains your movement, makes you more susceptible to bad options like rolling a lot or air dodging predictability or throwing out smash attacks, and overall facilitates your opponent coming back on you because you stopped doing what was working.

I agree that watching replays is a big deal to help solve this. It and constructive advice on bad habits I had from friends online helped a lot. Watching other people play helped me some since I eventually developed some sense of how to break down small interactions.

I can't fully help because you're describing scenarios I still grapple with a lot but I think some of it boils down to learning not to be preemptively scared or to mentally check out early. I play better when I'm not invested because it makes me less scared, for example, but sometimes you just get invested.

Character selection helped me a bit; I can check out of "seeing the trophy" if I just play a bunch of random characters and learn them, which helps to not get so into it that I get angry or scared to do anything. I also picked up Lucario since he mitigates early stock loss a bit.

I think most of it will come down to things like;

-Not getting afraid of losing once you have a lead.

-Not giving up if you lost a stock early since that's often one interaction that went wrong, and if you outplay them extra hard you still have a solid chance of winning. Consider that if it can happen to you a lot, it can go the other way.

-Not getting angry. Beyond expensive controllers being at risk, it leads to a rapid decline in gameplay quality. I know that this is hard, extremely hard, even, but my experience was to play until I got mad and stop, take a breather, entertain myself, and come back. Don't worry about W/L rates because fighting games are fundamentally about learning from a loss. Everyone loses, especially out of tournament.

I'm not a guru and understand that I apply this advice to myself imperfectly but I've found that my play improved by stifling the bad parts of my player mentality and self-analyzing my gameplay more.

I'd also advise maybe slowing down or breaking entirely until Ultimate comes out to get a fresh start. I've been less and less active for this reason.

The idea is that the type of people who glorify the Confederacy tend to also be extremely nationalistic, so you're just pointing out these hypocrisy of these hyper-pro America people glorifying people who left the country.

The problem with this is

A: A lot of ardent monument defenders are often white nationalists rather than American-centric nationalists, making their viewpoints less open to hypocrisy.

B: While the rest are blatantly hypocritical, pointing that out isn't as strong a movie as simply pointing out the grimy history of the South's intentions and their Lost Cause movement.

I've thought about this for a while, and while this is usually one of those things that right-wingers feel the need to interject with to dilute/distract by referring back to the Revolution, I think it's best that the "they were traitors" argument isn't brought up since it permits the debate to be diluted and distracts from the real problem.

That being, that the Confederacy's intents were, by their own words and actions, the preservation & expansion of slavery. That's all you really need to cast them aside since "traitor" is otherwise vague and applies positively/negatively depending on the country/era involved.

The issue with Confederate monuments isn't that we're honoring traitors, it's that a large number of them were erected long after the Civil War as a sort of PR move to feel less guilty over just how shitty the Confederacy was by intending to make it more "honorable."

They should absolutely be removed; consider that a black person in the South who sees such a monument can justifiably consider that an insult since that monument represents someone who, unwittingly or not, fought to sustain oppression, and that monument was erected as part of an effort to conceal that fact.

It's not being overly sensitive to take offense to that since it's a state sponsored endorsement of revisionist history trying to make oppressors look good.
