dancer62 09/30/18 12:52:35 PM #10 | Of course. In a national emergency serious enough to reinstate the draft, and draft men and women both, how could there be any question? --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

The high crime city where I live, checkpoints found over 10% of cars stopped with no driver's license or suspended/revoked license. Solution? The police stopped doing random checkpoints. Topic | How often should I smile, in general? |
dancer62 09/26/18 1:42:20 AM #2 | Always smile, nobody likes a grump. Find things to smile about. The roar of my BMW at wide-open-throttle in second gear on a freeway on-ramp is good for at least a half-hour of smiles. A good Tom Petty song is good for smiles all day. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | Are you racist? |
dancer62 09/24/18 11:52:40 PM #26 | I wasn't when the only Blacks I knew were university people. Topic | You ever just take time to stop and appreciate how fucking cool video games are? |
dancer62 09/23/18 7:22:56 AM #13 | Constantly aware. I built a simple pattern-matching game for oscilloscope display in 1961, watched the development of mainframe games in the 60s and 70s, arcade and home games in the 80s and 90s. 3D acceleration in the 90s made truly absorbing racing, flying, and combat games possible. Too bad the latest generation has become less playable with cluttered graphics, multi-gb installs, and poor controls. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

dancer62 09/21/18 5:42:50 AM #24 | My son sent me a model of a Stirling heat engine for Christmas a few years back, it works on the heat from a cup of coffee. That's pretty cool for a heat engine. Alternatively, a figure of the Buddha. Looking at the top of my bookcase, a Rosie the Riveter lunchbox, a statue of St. Patrick, a Buddha, model Datsun 510 racecar, 3D printed model radial aircraft engine, model Stinson Reliant, model Cessna 337. Topic | Have you ever bought/sold things on Craigslist? |
dancer62 09/09/18 12:35:49 PM #16 | I've bought several cars on Craigslist over the last 12 years, and sold one. Met some nice people. We arranged to meet at restaurants or shopping center parking lots, and I took a (male) friend with me. The car I sold, we met at the garage where I work sometimes, where I rebuilt the car. Actually, the three cars I have now were Craigslist finds. Money? Not amazing, but fair deals, in cash, with clean titles and legal bills of sale to protect both of us. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

dancer62 09/09/18 1:04:41 AM #31 | Other! I gave up. I have an android phone for internet and email, and an older phone to use as a telephone. The old phone has a green button to answer and a red button to hang up, no weird swiping, doesn't need two hands to operate. I might buy a phone that was actually useful for both phone calls and wifi, but until then, I'm sticking with what I have. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | Do you think that in general a Mazda Miata is a nice car? |
dancer62 09/07/18 1:48:59 AM #32 | Rear wheel drive roadster, fun to drive. Small enough to be a bit impractical, but so are most 2-seat sports cars. Desirable car, the modern equivalent of an MGB/TR4/Alfa Spider. My Supra will haul anything I can shove through the hatch and fit over the folded passenger seat. 7' martial arts staves, etc. no problem. Haven't hauled much in my BMW cabrio yet, tiny trunk restricted by the well for the top, it does have a "ski access" for loading long items through the rear seats above the driveshaft tunnel. School starts in a few days, I'll see if it can haul a few boxes of teaching materials. I almost got an RX7 once, passed because of the limited space inside for a daily driver/occasional grocery getter. There's a reason that a lot of classic MGs, Healeys, etc., had trunk racks. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
