Auron is from Final Fantasy, X to be specific. He was the cool character, the one you get later that could dish out tons of damage and comes with plot twists and mysteries.
While he debuted in the game that introduced a lot of PS2 owners to Final Fantasy, some say FFX started the decline of franchise, favoring linearity over free roaming. While he remains a favorite among fans, he's not too relevant these days.

Lucina debuted in Fire Emblem: Awakening, the 3DS game that led Fire Emblem to an explosion of popularity in the west.
But some fans of older games don't like the way the franchise has turned toward anime tropes and dating sim elements. While her inclusion in Smash Bros. could have given her a boost, many feel the Fire Emblem representation in the game has gone too far, too fast.

Yeeess, very interesting. It seems Bayonetta's recent relevance, plus her fun personality, was more than enough for a thorough trouncing of the brooding, best friend anime boy. Though I do wonder what the results would be after KH3 comes out.

Interesting turnout so far, though not unpredictable given the current Battle standing.

Bayo is currently winning 64-36. A sound beating, to my surprise. Hopefully my poll holds up long enough to compare to the final tally.

I see some battles that get close, or super one sided, and I try to guess the fanbases thought processes. I'd like to gather a test sample with this one.

Bayonetta doesn't have many games, but they were well received. Plus, she's an iconic (or at least recognisable) woman, who's relatively attractive. She's also been added to Smash Bros., which has added to her popularity. But her odd proportions, vulgarity and her 'overpowered' moveset in Smash have likely garnered her some aversion, or even anomisty.

Riku is from Kingdom Hearts, a well known fan favorite Disney/Square Enix franchise from the PS2 era. While KH3 has taken its sweet time, other games have been released since, and Riku being a main character (the brooding best friend type) has guaranteed him a fan base. But his cliche character type doesn't please everyone, and the convoluted plot and whimsical nature of Kingdom Hearts is often scrutinized, even mocked outright, making it clear that the series has it's fair share of critics and/or haters.
