I had a phase where I tried to go the indie gamedev route (even did it full-time for about 6 months), but it was never going to pan out - I've always been a coder but shitty game designer/graphics artist/etc, so I lost motivation and interest in all of my projects quickly.

I did make a game in a weekend game jam as the sole programmer in a team of 4 though (two of which had industry experience at AAA companies). That was a fun experience, it was a pretty basic game (think Plants vs Zombies) but was nice to have a fully completed game that got decent feedback in the jam.

Btw, unrelated, but I would strongly recommend people check out GreenManGaming if they haven't already. I find that their sales are a lot better than Steam's these days, and they have some pretty awesome deals as well like 25 random free games if you get 50 credit.
