There are probably people posting on GameFAQs who weren't born yet the first time the Noble Nine was proclaimed broken.

It's funny how I return to look at this board every time I catch wind that the character battle is happening, and it's the same discussion topics every time, even after years and years.

1: Any other character to make it to the final to face Link obviously will also be extremely popular, statistically it's very unlikely for one entrant in such a wide popularity contest to be massively more popular than literally all the others. 60-40 is already improbably extreme, actually.

2: People don't ask their friends to vote in an online poll for an entrant who is already winning by a large margin. They ask their friends(or random people on the internet) to vote for their favourite character when they're struggling. This will naturally even out the results.

Logic, folks.

Sephiroth would easily beat Sonic. He lost to Tifa because people vote for heroes over their villains. I think Seph would beat Crono and Mega Man as well, and so would Snake. They both got screwed over by some bad matchups.

Sephiroth is probably stronger than Tifa in most situations, people are just more likely to vote for a hero against their villain.

Gamespot polls were always heavily vote stuffed. I remember the 4chan rallies to vote out Sephiroth against fodder in the first round. It's also not really a "casual" site. Casuals don't visit video game websites at all.

But on a site like Facebook, Link would still do extremely well and might win the poll if the word "Zelda" is anywhere readily visible. Trust me, there are a lot of non-gamers who wouldn't recognize Link by name or picture but still think The Legend of Zelda is cool without having played it, just via flock mentality.

People should really have expected the top female characters to be stronger now than many years ago when GameFAQs's main demographic was young boys. Most voters now are adults, who are less likely to vote on characters just for being the "coolest". And I would guess we have a somewhat more even gender split in the userbase as well.

If anyone is wondering what the real reason is for not having music (although the unintended meme explosion is easily a better reason in retrospect), it's because the trailer, for whatever strange reason, also comes in reverse:

I have to wonder what the line of reasoning was behind excluding both the most reasonable answers to this question.

People either vote for their favourite, or for the one they have winning in their contest bracket.

The results of this round are being heavily skewed by the fact that there's a huge Smash Bros leak making the rounds and bringing in a ton of people from other websites who are only here for Smash. That's why Simon, Pac-man and Bayonetta seem so unrealistically strong.

What, this board finally stopped fellating that guy sometime since the last character battle? I guess people do grow up. Note: Not antagonizing Ultimaterializer here as I have not seen any offensive posts or anything, this was just the first thread I saw when I went to look at the board, and I had to post because of history.

That being said, I wish to bring up the time many years ago when Ultimaterializer was able to call out specifically ME reporting a post of his within minutes of me doing it, despite the fact I almost never report anyone. I always remembered that since it was pretty much proof to me that the reason he was never banned for offensive posts is that he's friends with moderators and just gets a free pass to do whatever he wants. I thought that was pretty scummy.
