Trump is right here. If we paid for the wall, these people would not be making this journey and dying in the process.

People will keep saying this but its entirely not true. For a better life people will be willing to make that trip and find a way. Hell even to come over legally many would still have to make trips like that.

"B-but if we had open borders, parents wouldn't need to drag their children through thousands of miles of hostile desert" is a shit argument

Thats not my argument. If we had a Wall no one would come towards it is the shit argument in question here. I dont want open borders either. I understand that many families, open or not, will still have to make trips like that. A wall wont stop those journeys. Not sure why you quoted me to say that tho.

Bullshit. You've already said you can't blame someone for trying to escape a shithole. How many refugees do you think we should take then? Anyone who is left out can't be blamed for forcing their child into a violent, dangerous journey after all.

Cry me a fucking river. Coming from a shithole does not give you the right to subvert American immigration law. "I want a better life" is not a free pass to do whatever you want. We can't take the entire population of El Salvador into the country because every single person would rather have their kids here than there.

Theyre legally applying for asylum, so idk what you mean but subvert American immigration law.

Its like you dont know what youre talking about.

And more than 80% of them will be turned away because they do NOT have legitimate asylum claims.

But that's meaaaan

Typical republican response. No personal responsibility. Jump through hoops to blame everyone else in some roundabout way...and they get away with it because the Dems are weak and wont hold them accountable for this shit.

lmao pathetic

The "personal responsibility" lies solely with the parent who killed their child by undertaking a perilous journey because Democrats have instilled a belief that if you come from a shithole, you will be allowed in to the country despite the success rates of asylum seekers speaking otherwise. The parents of these children should be charged with child endangerment and thrown in jail before being removed to their shithole home countries.

We're gonna fight that fire with the power of love and understanding!

Get a job as a chaplain if you want to help in emergencies with compassion, not a firefighter.

what about consoling victims?

also, the article says most firefighters aren't called to fight fires, but medical emergencies.

What about consoling victims? It is entirely secondary to the task of intervening and stabilizing the patient. Which has everything to do with physical ability and skill. It is absolutely exhausting to perform CPR on someone for several cycles.

And yes, ALS calls for fire crews are far more frequent than actual fires.

Going "above and beyond the call of duty" is literally the job

No, that's why that phrase exists, to recognize exceptional bravery and sacrifice. It's not a soldier's duty to jump on a grenade to save their squad mates' lives, which is why when it does happen it's so extraordinarily conspicuous.

Rushing into an active shooting is the same thing for a random cop or security guard as well.

Running into an active shooting at a school is exactly what every random cop is trained to do, and has been standard protocol since Columbine. They are LITERALLY taught not to wait for backup, and to intervene in the shooting as soon as they are able. Not when they feel safe doing so, when they are able.

No offense, but [citation needed].

I think you're vastly overstating your case if you believe that police officers are specifically taught to run into active shooting situations without backup. And even if it's something that they're taught to do, it's hardly shocking if self-preservation instincts cause a random guard or patrolman to free under the pressure.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/15/us/florida-school-shooting-columbine-lessons/index.html

"You're going to the sound of the guns," he said. "The No. 1 goal is to interdict the shooter or shooters. In the old days, you took land. You went in. You clear the room. Then you slowly and methodically move to clear the next room. In this instance ... get to the shooter as quickly as possible and that's what they clearly did here."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/true-crime/wp/2018/02/23/police-are-trained-to-attack-active-shooters-but-parkland-officer-didnt-would-armed-teachers-help/?utm_term=.4385bd9f4465

In American policing, confronting active shooters is divided into two eras: before Columbine, and after Columbine. Before the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado, police strategy was to wait for the SWAT team to arrive and then attack en masse with precise force. But after the two shooters in Columbine roamed the school for nearly 50 minutes, killing 13 and wounding 21, the police approach changed: Enter now. Whoever is there with a gun, whether a school resource officer or the first patrol officer to arrive, should go after the shooter.

We teach that the first priority when you come on scene is to stop the killing, said Pete Blair, executive director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University and one of the nations top experts on active shooter training. The number one driving force is gunfire. If theres gunfire, we teach the officers to isolate, distract and neutralize. We want people to go directly to the sounds of the gunfire.

It's just some asshole in Texas. It'll get overturned.

I'm sure rather than celebrating the federal judges blocking Trump's policies such as the travel ban, you stumped around the topics pointing out that it was just some asshole in Hawaii.

But we know that's not true.

It's almost like someone can have opinions on rulings and not just be 100% for or against judge rulings. How insane!

Right. My side patriot, your side "just some asshole," gotcha.
