Same as far as 1, 2, 4 and 5 from the TC's post.

But personally I'd love to fire off an M-16 or AK-47. My dad's one buddy had an Uzi or two when I was in my very early teens. I got to fire off a few clips from one of them on semi auto mode (had a switch to go full auto). It was as awesome as you might think.

However I still wouldn't hunt unless it was absolutely necessary for survival. I don't see the 'sport' in shooting at something that can't really defend itself in the same manner.

I just guess some people do that. I personally couldnt. Even buying all those, I would have played at least a little of each.

@LinkPizza

I did that a bunch last gen, where I'd install the smaller amount of files required and then play a bit and put the game aside to try something different. Although in many cases I went back to GTA IV's online and later on RDR and/or GTA Online on the PS3.

But at least last gen you could have 20 games on your HDD without the whole drive being filled. I just rented Just Cause 4 earlier today and I had to delete 2-3 games to be able to play it due to the full installs being 40-60 GB's or more.

Im surprised people buy games they dont play. Normally, when I buy a game, I at least play it within days. And normally, the day I get it...

@LinkPizza

Because in many cases I buy them because they're cheap AND stuff that I know I will play....eventually. Yet the past couple of gens I mostly bought these games because they were cheap and amassed such a backlog that I could quit buying new consoles after this gen (which I might anyway) and have enough to play for the rest of my lifetime.

I just couldn't stop myself from buying games last gen when I was getting them for $2-5 in many cases. Best find ever though was a Little Big Planet GOTY edition bundle that included a Dualshock 3 for $1.99 from a now closed Kmart about 20-25 miles from me. Same store also had TWO Resistance 1 & 2 bundles with Dualshock 3's for $6 apiece as well AND a God Of War Origins (aka PSP prequels on PS3) & Dualshock 3 bundle for $30.

Physical gaming is on its way out, and so this is one monopoly that must go with it.

Physical copies will only cease to exist once two things happen.

1. Pricing goes wayyyy down on digital copies (none of this launching at $60 and staying there for 3 years or more).

and

2. EVERYBODY has access to affordable and fast internet.

Without that second one, any company trying to release a digital only console (see: PSP GO) would be seen as foolhardy. Yet I imagine just like all of the other less than consumer friendly things (loot boxes, pay to play online, on disc DLC, etc) that have begun to feast on the rotting corpse of what was once gaming most gamers would just shrug and keep paying the ridiculously high prices for digital copies in order to keep enjoying their hobby.

But this is one gamer who would say adios if pricing didn't take a steep nosedive.

Are you saying youd rather waste money? Because you can still go do that. I usually like to save money, though. I would normally rather buy a game myself. But Im not gonna be mad if I get the display item. Do I think it should be less? Yeah. But Ill still pay new price as long as its still new. Which it is. No wrapper means I dont have to waste time tearing it off, anyway. And the wrapper is going to go in the trash.

In the end, if you really care that much about the plastic, then ask for a wrapped copy if they have one.

We have different definitions of what we consider new, just like Gamestop apparently does. I would rather have a fully sealed one that little kids didn't wipe their snot on, sneeze on or that people touched the open case and everything else with their bare hands after running out of the bathroom without washing their hands.

Besides which at 70% off most clearance stuff from Target and even Walmart beats many Gamestop prices by leaps and bounds.

Discs don't have a limited shelf life. 'New' is just a word, for me the thing to look for is the condition of the disc/case. I mean if you've ever gotten something from Gamefly those are practically new. Arguing over cellophane is silly if it saves $30. Then really it's just inventory control. You go to BB and they got those plastic boxes. Targ or TrU use locked shelves.

Except that some of those 'practically new' discs from Gamefly and/or Redbox have big chips missing off the edges of them that sometimes make them not work after a while.

Either way I'd rather buy a 70% off new and sealed clearance game from Target versus a $30 opened and not new (to me) game from Gamestop.
Opened isn't the same as used. New cars aren't exactly taped shut and rolled across the country. You all are just using this as a crazy reason to bash GS.

Try the experiment I mentioned above at a random Gamestop with a game you know you're going to keep anyway. See what they say. That's what amused me about their policy of opening new games to make display cases. When they do it it's magically still "new". If I do it right in front of them, it's somehow no longer new. That, to me, is bullshit.

As for 'bashing' Gamestop, they have SOME decent sales at times. Last thing I bought from them was Constructor for PS4 for $5. It was indeed 'newsed'. But it was $5. If it's a $40-50 game and 'newsed' then there's an issue. But for a cheap game that likely nobody even looked at the case of, so it stayed truly like new, then I'm fine with the opened as new thing.

I thought some people said that you can get a wrapped version. You just have to ask for it. Of they have it. The last one is apparently not wrapped because they need something to put out there on display.

But either way, its technically not used. Or it can be opened but not used. They maybe should give a discount, though. Like how floor items at certain stores are. But not the same amount as a used game gets since its technically still new...

@LinkPizza

Try this little experiment in a Gamestop store then. Buy a game that you know you're going to keep anyway, making sure it's a sealed copy. Open it right after you buy it, then tell the cashier you just changed your mind and you no longer want the game. See what they say. I did this just to prove a point the one time during the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube gen.

I was told (and I quote), "Once you open a game it's no longer new, it's used. You can trade it in for store credit."

Yet when the stores employees open it to make a display copy it's still somehow "new"? Fuck that. Opening it makes it USED, whether I open it or they open it.

Target and Best Buy both use those magnetically sealed security cases for their higher priced games to keep the boxes on display with live product inside. For the $19.99 and under ones they typically forgo the security cases. Heck. Even Toys R Us used to have dummy cases with black DVD type cases with printed up 'not for resale/display' artwork in the plastic sleeve on those cases. Before that system they simply had a printed up artwork in a plastic sleeve with a bunch of paper slips that you took to the register to get a SEALED copy of a game.

So if these other retailers can, did and do these sort of things why does Gamestop do it in a way that causes a new copy or copies of games to be opened to make display cases?

Yankee Candle should make 'new game smell'. With that said I buy so many games I don't feel a need to sniff every one. (Wow, what a sentence.)

I typically buy quite a few games as well yet Gamestop is the only place where I have bought a "new" game that's opened already.
I don't get that seal too often. Returning games is rare for me and I understand why they'd limit it. People would treat them like rentals.

I don't usually return games often either. But the thing is to me new means buying something in a factory sealed package.

Once it's been opened it's considered used to me regardless of who opened it. So excuse me for wanting a factory sealed item that hasn't been subjected to innumerable people's snot, saliva and/or other bodily fluids from their filthy hands manhandling the case, artwork and any possible manual.
Nobody is making you shop at GS. For the most part we're talking about buying games for ourselves. If you actually need a wrapped product for a gift then make sure it's wrapped.

If you don't mind then that's fine. That's your thing. But, AGAIN, to me once it's opened it's USED and it should NOT be able to be sold as new.

Otherwise it should be sold as used with a decent shopworn discount.

How entitled do you need to be to bitch about a lousy wrapper on your game? You're gonna open it anyway. Of course if there's physical damage then that's an issue.

@DPsx7

Because some of us like the visceral joy of ripping into the plastic that games are sealed in and breathing in that 'new game smell' that first time you open the case?

Not only that but if you buy a 'newsed' game and the clerk forgets to put that little clear plastic seal on it that denotes it was the last copy many times the stores will refuse to allow you to return it. With a truly SEALED copy you can. Sometimes you change your mind after buying something.

Finally people buy them as gifts for other people. Do you really think that it's appropriate to give somebody an already opened game as a gift? I don't.

If Gamestop goes under, I hope preorder bonuses suffer into oblivion and the mom and pop shops come back. I mean, there are two in the area that still survive but a couple more wouldn't hurt.

All the little indie shops by me usually price their stuff just under eBay value and make Gamestop look generous by comparison with the meager amounts they're only willing to pay at times.

I had one of the local shop employees tell me his boss, who has 3 stores and raids places like Target, Walmart and the like for cheaper priced stuff to flip in his stores, told him to only give $1 a game for PS3 stuff regardless of rarity. So I could go in there with a fully factory sealed copy of The Simpsons Game, which typically was going for $40 new and sealed, and my offer from them would be $1 for that.

So yeah, small indie shops/chains aren't always this bastion of gaming nirvana. Some of them are run by assholes who only care about how much per item they can make.

As for the pre-order bonuses, some of them over the years have been interesting (Catherine artbook and soundtrack, etc). But now most of them seem to be some digital shit, which to me in pointless and just shows these companies further cheaping out and gamers letting them by continuing to purchase from them.
Dikitain posted...
I remember reading that for mom and pop shops, they make pretty much nothing off of new games (something like $5 a game) and they are required my publishers to stock a minimum of 20 or so which is why they don't bother selling them. No small store is going to sell 20 of any new game other then maybe Madden or Call of Duty.

Plus they apparently don't get them on release day most times unlike the bigger stores, more like 2-3 days later.

The aforementioned small chain around here typically buys at MSRP from the big retail chains sometimes just to have copies to sell in their stores. Although I think they may have used the Gamer's Club Unlocked discount to at least make SOMETHING off those launch day copies. Just makes me wonder how many accounts they went through once the 3 per title per system per year limit was instituted a handful of years ago.

If you can't handle someone asking you if you want to do something and just being able to say no without becoming a whiny child over it... Well that's just weak and pathetic.

@mooreandrew58

Maybe it was just some of the stores around here then. I'd go in to trade something in and it'd be 10 minutes minimum before I could finish with the transaction as they would begin to rattle off upcoming game names. Of course I later on found out they're given hours based on pre-orders, protection plans and Power Up sub numbers. I believe they also use the surveys to gauge how effective employees are.

It's not 'whining' to want to be left alone to browse and to want a sales transaction to take less time than it would for me to read War & Peace. Mind you the hard sell people were only at one particular store here and that was their old district managers home office and he was a pain with hounding you for them when he worked behind the counter.

I'd rather have to go find an employee at Walmart after checking out everything myself for as long as I need WITHOUT being annoyed with open "newsed" games at Gamestop and the constant push for sales, sales, sales there.

Gamestop is not that bad if you are careful with what you buy from them. You can stop yourself from getting "newsed" (last copy display case games) games if you simply refuse to buy them. Of course that only applies for you as it seems that most game buyers going to GS have no issue with such things.

As for me I'm more of a clearance game buyer and always have been. I can count on one hand the number of titles I've bought at launch in these past two gens. Everything else has been clearance or otherwise low price buys from Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Target, Toys R Us, Gamestop and a bunch of Amazon Warehouse Deals pre-owned stuff. Couple those with the former Gamer's Club Unlocked coupons from Best Buy's now defunct program and that was at one point another good place to grab cheap stuff.

There's far, far too many deal sites out there that you can check on to find deals on these things to ever end up paying full price or putting up with the policies of companies which have NO reason to change them due to so many of their customers just not giving a damn how their products they buy look.

I worked at one of those calendar stands around a decade ago at the mall downtown here. From Thanksgiving day and/or Black Friday on until AFTER New Year's they had Christmas carols on a loop every hour of every day.

By the week before Christmas I was tempted to bring in my own radio and blast death metal just to hear something different. lol

Of course working in a retail store isn't much better as usually all the stores in a specific chain have the same music droning on and on and sometimes it's on a loop that's timed to play every song at the same time every cycle.

The baby savers are heroes that are sympathized with and get a free dinner at Applebee's for the loss of their pet.

The dog people's story of not being able to go back into the apartment gets little sympathy and they are labelled baby killers. They are worse than a coward cop that stays away from an active shooter.

. Or we can make a poll to see who would rather either stab a baby head or walk thier dog and see how many baby head stabbers there are.

Oh well. The outrage will pass in time. Meanwhile I'll have my furry little buddy to comfort me from all the rage.

I guarantee you people would be more likely to save the baby due to social pressures rather than their own feelings.

You would think. Yet every time I see a news report where there was a fire and they report that everybody got out alright but their dog or other animals died I am reminded that most people would not sacrifice their lives for their animals.

Meanwhile....

Posting people's personal information so people who think like you can harass and possibly even physically attack those people is NOT protected.

But if these people wanted to say "XYZ is an ABC and a blah blah blah blah" WITHOUT posting addresses, phones numbers and the like, then it should be protected.

Three baby daddies, oldest kid has her own kid before she's out of her teens and she's on assistance? Yeah. She sounds like she could barely take care of herself and her brood. They didn't need a dog, let alone two.

I've known folks like this including my one buddies sister whose family had TEN cats running around in their apartment upstairs in his families house years ago. Nice people. But they let the damned cats run wild spraying all over the fucking place and I'm pretty sure they ended up with ten of them cuz none of them were spayed or neutered.

Having a pet is as large of a responsibility as taking care of a kid or kids.

Hopefully with the signing of Libre's Law in PA situations like this won't happen anymore or the people will serve REAL jail time rather than getting a slap on the wrist for animal abuse and neglect.

What amuses me are the excuses the people from PennDOT made about somehow being unprepared for the storm. Yet the storm was forecast for DAYS in advance.

Probably the same people who 'work' at the road project work zones in the spring and summer and by work I mean stand there and bullshit for hours and get paid for it.

I honestly didn't mind going to Kmart and/or Sears when they were plentiful in my area. Why? They had some AMAZING gaming clearances over the years. I'm talking stuff like 90% off games and even game and controller bundles. For example I got a Little Big Planet Game Of The Year and Dualshock 3 bundle for the PS3 for $1.99 at the one store.

Same store also had two Resistance 1 & 2 with Dualshock 3 bundles for $5.99 (90% off) and a God Of War collection bundle for $30.

Then they purged their gaming department about 5-6 years ago and closed the majority of my local stores and most if not all of my interest in going to them waned to near nothing.

That was the only way I could make it through the video with the other audio in the background like the same person or people yelling and/or clapping.

Even after seeing how animals are slaughtered (or were at the time) via the Faces Of Death video series I have to say that bacon is delicious.

Salty, greasy and bad for my health but it's still delicious.

I used to buy them semi regularly when they were $14.99 for the softcover version(s) and many times back in the day EB Games (before they became part of Gamestop) would have a promotion where you could get the guide for like $5 when buying the game it's for.

Of course once I found out stores like Best Buy and Gamestop 'pennied' them (dropped them to $.01 in their system) I would end up waiting till that happened and then grab a bunch to trade with other people on sites like CAG for ones that I didn't get.

Lately I've been buying them when I find them on clearance at Walmart. Most times they're $3-5 there and sometimes it's the 'collectors edition' or whatever that comes with a code for some sort of DLC or other.

I used to grab more of them when they made $5-15 ones back in the day. Heck. I think the one I have for the original God Of War even came with a DVD version of it that you could skip around the chapters of the game to see how to beat X or Y.

Of course I didn't really start buying them in droves until I found out that Best Buy and other chains 'penny' them eventually, meaning they drop them to $.01 in their system. They're supposed to destroy them or ship them back to a clearinghouse in some instances, but most stores would just give you them if you found them on the shelves for that price.

A bunch of clearanced ones from a nearby Walmart including hardcover and softcover copies of the Assassin's Creed Origins guide and I believe a hardcover Watchdogs (or Watchdogs 2) one.

Before that I got the softcover updated GTA V guide that includes PS4/XB1/PC and a section for online. Before that was the Skyrim Legendary one on clearance from another Walmart for about $4.
