You talk about square characters, but we've seen Sephiroth three times already in the contest and he hasn't looked good. Getting 61% against Amaterasu, the same character Luigi got nearly 60% in 2010 isn't a good look. His performance against Wesker also wasn't much better than what Kefka did in 2005. CBIX was an embarrassment to all noble nine members and that's because there were rallies everywhere. So far our only rally has come from the Tifa vs X battle, so there's a good shot the Mario vs Sephiroth match stays clean. We can't say how strong Mario will be since we haven't seen him yet, but if the other characters in his franchise are any indicator than I think we're going to see Mario's first W against Sephiroth. |

My point was that I don't fault Vincent for losing to him when Mewtwo was rallied throughout the whole contest. I don't really understand why we're using CBIX seriously when a majority of the contest was determined by 4chan and reddit rallies. Vincent looked weaker than his normal self in the last character battle, but so did Squall. Also out of curiosity, why bring up Snake? He's a noble nine member, so of course he can win matches with bad match pictures. He's miles above both Squall and Vincent. |

I've missed every single debatable match plus a few that weren't even close. I missed the following matches. Spryo vs Chun Li: I blame myself fully for this one. I got too caught up in looking at contest records (which were close) and thought Spyro might get an extra push from the remaster. I knew it was a risky pick from the start, but I should have known better. Victor vs Aya: I should have known, always pick the older series when in doubt. Nathan Drake did get his first win last contest, and I figured since Sully was well liked that he'd beat someone from a forgotten RPG. Of course though, that wasn't true, and I still blame myself for the pick. Tidus vs Donkey Kong: Here it is, the first mistake I don't have regrets about. Sure I went back and forth a little bit, but I was confident Tidus would win. Afterall he did beat Donkey Kong in a four person poll by ten percent once. That and Donkey Kong is known for choking in these contest. But by far my biggest mistake was not predicting the death of FF characters and knowing that all smash reps would dominate. Truly something I couldn't predict. Noctis vs Master Hand: Hey remember overestimating all FF characters and not predicting that all smash reps would dominate? Yeah that hurt me here again. Know what hurts most about this one? Noctis is the first loss of mine I had making it to the third round. Wario was always going to be the loser of whoever came out of this match. I was aware of Master Hand's victory over Kuja and that Noctis is from a FF game that doesn't have much nostalgia. That said, I still thought it would be enough for him to pass. With these other picks though not only was I wrong, but the poll wasn't even really close. Crash vs Cecil: I know this one isn't technically over, but I think we can assume that it's not going to change. Once again I was let down by another FF character, the true death of my bracket. I don't have regrets about this though. Crash was always awful in these contest, and no one cared about him. Even though Cecil was 0-4 in his contest history I felt strong about his chances of beating this joker. I suppose it will be another contest before he has a chance to get his first victory. One less bracket I suppose. I'm interested to know what you guys have missed, if anything so far. |
