He thinks it was his dad who told him? I look forward to him talking about it with his dad, who goes "oh, I didn't know that" or something.

Ooishi, whose name I had gotten wrong all this time, literally just mentioned being "demoned away" in this TIP. And I'm pretty sure he didn't believe in the curse at this point in the previous chapter. That or I'm being dumb. Also, how the hell did he figure out the delinquents stole the bikes?

So Mion is gonna be the main psycho this time, it seems. I predict this chapter will be focused more on her psyche, with how Rena mentioned her being called in the middle of the night.

The penny dropped. God I just want him to walk away, and hug Mion the next day. I can't think of a better solution. Wait, OH NO I'M GETTING SOFT AGAIN. NOT THIS TIME, 07TH EXPANSION!

Goddammit, Keiichi! You have to make it clear that you want the real Mion, not Shion! I think. Maybe. Yeah I'm probably horribly wrong here.

On a scale from "MonotoneTim saying "oh"" to "All three Mario Screaming videos played at once," my reaction to Mion and Shion being different people is "Kakyoin screaming." I have such a horrible feeling of dread right now and I fucking hate Shion now. Also, the cicadas randomly chirping has to mean something.

How the hell did Keiichi call Rena Reina? Unless the TIPS aren't canon or something. Man, I'm overthinking this.

So there was stomping on floorboards heard. I remember in Chapter 1 that the doorbell rang a few times before Keiichi noticed. I wonder if I missed the sound. And it seems I'm on the money about Mion snapping next.

Between the tension and my sleepiness, I'm probably gonna call it here for now. Next time, we'll begin Chapter 8. Of Chapter 2. Odd, I know.

One last thing I forgot to write down because of the text limit, for my theories:
-How long did it take for Keiichi's parents to find out about his death? Considering that they couldn't figure out the "was there a needle" thing, either his mother forgot about it, or there's something going on.

Pardon that mistake. Without further ado...

CHAPTER 2: WATANAGASHI
That tournament was intense. What? Is there something else I should say? Something like WHY IN CHRIST'S NAME ARE KEIICHI, RENA, AND MION ALIVE AGAIN?! Well there you go.

That's all I really got to say, because now? It's all live from this point.

Rika saying "Keiichi the Rena Killer" has to be a sign of something. And I guarantee Rena will kill Satoko or Rika, just as Mion foreshadowed.

Again with Keiichi having his thoughts be read just by them looking at his face. Running gag, or horrifying fact? We'll see.

This game is making me want to try Japanese shaved ice. I'm guessing it's like shaved snow? I only had strawberry, and it was refreshing.

Oh dear god why did we go from talking about maid outfits to some random people discussing Keiichi... oh, he's just imagining people gossiping about him cross-dressing. Phew!

They're casually discussing summer break, and both Rena and Mion picked Summer Festival for their answers. God, if this wasn't a kinetic novel, I'd do my damnedest to keep track of their movements just based on that alone.

This curry event is making me hungry, and I've never tried curry on the grounds of hating spicy foods. More importantly, how did Keiichi detect a star at the end of Chie's sentence?

Keiichi just fell for the most obvious trick in the book by Sakoto. Jesus christ.

That blunder is followed up by an insane 10,000 IQ play! But now I want rice.

My heart sank and elevated almost back-to-back over the score. Goddamn.

Wanna know how to give me a feeling of terror even when the goofy music is playing? Mention Rena being sharp when it comes to detecting lies.

This game is literally telling me that appearances can be deceiving. And it's not being subtle at all about Rena. Thank you for the reminders regardless, game.

Good work pissing off a bunch of delinquents, Keiichi. But the whole "residents of the village gathering around to intimidate them" thing is definitely going to come into play again. And the whole "no one can interfere with the oni's hunt" thing is going to come back too. The "an enemy of one is the enemy of all" line just makes me more convinced.

CHAPTER ONE: ONIKAKUSHI
That intro is important. Not the opening that I disabled, not the intro blurb by Fredrica(sp?) Bernkastel. No, the monologue about forgetting someone's love as the speaker beats the hell out of someone female. I expected it to be Keiichi, but considering his fate? Anything goes.

Now, most of the beginning is a blur. What I remember the most is the Colonel Randy statue excavation, so let's talk about that.

First, can I just say it's contrived that Keiichi jokes about a dead body to a complete stranger? Sure, it's one fault in a sea of good writing, but it bothers me. Sure, he explains that he joked like he usually does with his friends, but from what I remember before that point, I don't think the joking was violent, or at least not to that degree. I'm not sure, I'll have to reread. Feel free to correct me.

Second, I don't know how he managed to hide the magazine after the hatchet scene(which gave me quite the fright), but considering what happens when he tips his hand later? I'll just be glad it happened. Still, I have to wonder if Rena really didn't notice.

Now, let's skip ahead a bit because I'm already feeling incoherent; specifically, to the first psycho scene. Good god. I thought two things when she yelled "LIES!":
1. "Damn, that's a good yell. She'd make quite the attorney. I wonder if there's a Higurashi Ace Attorney game, like the Touhou one?"
That was 1% of my thoughts. 99% was the following:

Skipping ahead more to the scenes more fresh on my mind; holy hell, the door scenes. First, the one with Rena and Mion basically interrogating the hell out of Keiichi. Not to mention the needle in the mochi, or whatever it was. And the little peek Mion gave was not a fun sight.

Speaking of, I want to go on a small tangent about the needle. See, I feel like it would be too cheap for his mother to have seen the needle, shrugged, and thrown it away. No, someone had to have taken it. But then we must ask, who could've taken it? To be specific; who had a way in, an opportunity to slip in, and a reason to take it? Given how diligently Keiichi was about locking doors, and how his parents never mentioned anyone coming by after that, I can't think of anything. I might be overthinking it, but I really don't think they'd do something so obvious.

Anyway, the second door scene. Oh god, the description of Rena's finger made me wince. Getting my finger broken in a door is a horrible, terrifying thought. And this VN took this thought and say "hey jackass, take a long look at this!" I was half-expecting the chapter to end on that scene, and I'll never stop being glad it kept going. And by glad, I mean "relieved and frustrated."

After that? Well, I really don't have much to say besides the usual "oh god" and "oh no." And if I wanted to do that, I'd post funny reaction images. No, I'm making this thread to keep track of my notes and theories. Speaking of, here they are:

-The syringe is a red herring. Think about it; the police found no injection mark on Tomitake. Unless they forgot/it's not modern enough for such marks to be found/the police are incompetent, I believe that, while the syringe proves that Keiichi killed in self-defense, that's it.
-The perpetrator of the crime is the curse of Oyashiro-sama. There's no other reason for Keiichi to claw out his throat. Sure, he could be going insane, but there's a point where he'd stop. And considering it happened just like Tomitake's death, and I don't believe that the syringe and drug are relevant, I can't think of any other explanation.
-I have no theories for Tomitake's death yet.

Keiichi; Pretty cool guy, surrounded by cute girls. Surprisingly, he's not much of a fish out of water, despite being a city boy in a rural village. Yes, that is wrong, but let's save that for the episode one write-ups. Since I got nothing to say that's not spoileriffic, I'll continue here; holy shit this guy is either completely batshit insane, or he's figured this all out from the word go. Basically he's either Dale Gribble or Joseph Joestar in his prime years, in terms of intuition. More importantly, I honestly nearly flipped the fuck out at what becomes of him, so I can safely give him the Rating: Likable/10
Rena: What a cutie. Seeing her interactions with just about everyone puts a smile on my face. There's pure, and then there's Rena. Such a cinnamon bun, if that term is still trendy. JUST KIDDING HAHAHAHAHAHA OH GOD THIS GIRL IS FUCKING BONKERS. THERE WERE CERTAIN PARTS WHERE I HONESTLY SHUDDERED AT THE VERY THOUGHT OF BEING IN KEIICHI'S SHOES. I CAN NEVER LOOK AT A HATCHET THE SAME WAY AGAIN. Rating: Cute/10 psyche I mean AAAAAAAAAAAA/10
Mion: Lean, green, but definitely not mean... well, not BLATANTLY mean. I knew from the moment she referred to herself as "oji-san"(sp? or wrong word period?) that I'd like her. I knew from the moment she revealed to merely pretend to be a zombie in a game of tag that I'd love her antics. Quite the rival, though, in the club games. But man, is it satisfying to see her be temporarily defeated. AND I ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY I NEVER HAVE TO SEE THOSE EYES, THOSE FUCKING EYES, JESUS CHRIST, 07TH EXPANSION, WHAT EVILS LURK IN THIS GIRL?! I FEEL CURSED JUST THINKING ABOUT ALL OF HER "ANTICS," TO USE THAT DELICATE WAY TO DESCRIBE IT. Okay I'll stop the epic allcaps memeing. Point is, she's the kind of girl who terrifies you in the "oh man I hope I don't get on her bad side" way and the "oh man I hope she doesn't literally murder me" way. Rating: "This old geezer breaks the rating scale!" And probably my bones at one point.
Satoko: What a little shit. If Rena is the pure one, and Mion is the balanced one, Satoko is the vile one who wants to watch you cry tears of blood. She will stop at nothing to make Keiichi's life a living hell. In other words, she's probably the only girl in the group I can trust! Or she's everything I expect her to be. Either or. Rating: Demon/10
Rika: Fun fact, when googling to remember if that was her name, I got spoiled. Again. Don't make the same mistake I did, folks. That being said, she's cute. Not really much I can say, that's kind of it, being the "quiet puppetmaster" type. Between the spoiler and what she said at one point, though? I can bet that she's one of my best allies. Rating: Pretty good/10
Tomitake: Camerabro is a pretty cool guy. Given that he's pretty spoileriffic, though, I'll just leave it at that. And an F to pay respects. Rating: Bro/10
Oishi: He's a detective-type. Detective types are cool. Now, with that vague description out of the way; I am going to admit it; I trust him way, way too much. But on the other hand, he's pretty much my only ally on this search for the truth. So I want to believe, anyway. But considering his genuine concern in THAT scene, well, I'm leaning towards "big good hero guy." Rating: Neat/10 read: Will probably betray me but I have no one else/10

GRANTED, I'VE ONLY NOW STARTED GETTING INTO MURDER MYSTERIES, AND THERE'S A NON-ZERO CHANCE THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL STORY FOR THE GENRE, BUT I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS VN ENOUGH REGARDLESS. Now, for all those who HAVE read it, or are absolutely sure they don't care, or just want to see what cringe-worthy horseshit I'm posting this month(spoiler: this thread will be good trust me): Hey there, welcome! I'm gonna be first giving all my thoughts on Higurashi's first chapter, what's transpired so far in the second, and then I'll do semi-stream of consciousness writing. I say semi because there's probably gonna be parts where I have to keep going and say nards to letting you all know what I'm thinking at the time. Sorry all, but a thriller's a thriller!

But where to even begin? Well, I'm first gonna come out and say it; I think I've been spoiled. See, on this RP thing I play(yeah yeah yuck it up at my being a grown man who still plays pretend on the internet), we were gonna do a Higurashi RP. It's canceled now, but I signed up as an antagonist role and learned that there's a psycho disease going around, and the military has to quarantine it or something. Now, I'm well aware that there's a chance that this can very well be a fan-made theory, from what I know about the When They Cry series. Specifically, the whole "figure the mystery out yourself, nerd" part. But still, it's pretty plausible from what little I've seen. Even then, I'm gonna try figuring out an alternate explanation.

With that confession out of the way; as you all know, a write-up of the characters so far and my thoughts on them are always necessary. Granted, it's been hours since I finished the first episode and I'm already getting tired, but can't sleep due to earthquakes keeping me on edge(before you ask, nobody died and nothing was damaged (aside from a Sigma figure, but I can just glue his legs back on), I live tens of miles away from the epicenter), my thoughts will range from "short" to "probably incoherent and/or blatantly incorrect." And I can't double check names/profiles without getting spoiled hard, at least I can tell from the one peek I took at Wikipedia. That being said, said write-up will be in the next post, and it's already about 1/3rd written. So you won't have to wait long!
