Everybody needs insurance so those make sense. The ads for medications make no sense. Aren't doctors required to complete mandatory training and keep up with the development of new drugs? If you need to ask your doctor about a drug you saw on TV, chances are you need a new doctor. And would a doctor really just prescribe you some medication because you asked? The ads are annoying and I'm not sure how they are supposed to make the company more money.

Was India draconian in terms of tech before this? It's obviously bad that they did, but several news articles over the years have given me the impression that India is a total backwater in terms of privacy, freedom, and real democracy. Australia's move sets a lovely precedent that will be used to pass similar laws elsewhere, but India has never seemed (from afar) to be much of a democracy in the first place.

What exactly are you looking for? You say you don't want visual novels, and that you don't want a game made just for the sake of nudity and sex. Your criteria excludes virtually every adult title I'm familiar with. If you want a game that isn't focused on sex and just happens to have it, the Sunrider series is a good suggestion. The story is told in visual novel format, but the meat of the game is space strategy and the sex is just sort of there. There is an optional side game called Sunrider Academy that is focused on dating and sex, but it takes place in an alternate universe with some of the same characters.

Otherwise you have:
- Adult visual novels.
- Those low-budget adult puzzle games nobody buys because the suck.
- 2D RPGs that feature a heavy amount of nudity and sex.

Not sure what you're hoping for.

With Windows 10, you don't need to take a computer into a repair shop unless you have defective hardware, and even then only if you don't know how to replace parts yourself. Back up your files to a USB stick and then reinstall Windows 10.

See under "Reset your PC":
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

Before doing that, create Windows 10 installation media:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If resetting your PC doesn't work, install Windows 10 from scratch using the Windows 10 installer you made earlier. It's been awhile since I did this, but if it asks if you want to keep anything for either process, say no. You want a clean install. Make sure to run Windows Update multiple times to make sure everything is up to date before you put your programs and files back on.

Good luck!

I'm puzzled as to why you feel dead inside, especially if you're studying physics. Calculus 3 is the easiest of the three, and your work in physics should be shoring up the fundamentals nicely. There aren't any sequences or series in Calc 3 either. If I did well after a long break in my education, you can do well too.

Multivariable calculus is something you'll use a lot in physics, so make sure you understand it well. If you find yourself getting stuck on volume integrals later, try imagining slicing a loaf of bread (that seriously did the trick for me). If you struggle to set up integrals later in the course, you can get past it by noticing that they only come in so many forms and you can memorize what they look like and how they go. In real life you can use a computer, or there is some physical intuition as to what's going on that can help you get it right.

The stuff at the very end of the semester is much harder than the rest, so be ready and try to budget some extra time if you can.

Good luck!

I kind of guessed that. I've actually read a fair number of visual novels, and I was curious if they are going after regular ones with some nudity, or if it's some bizarre fringe stuff that I've never heard of. I'd be kind of sad if they reversed their censorship stance entirely and started getting rid of a ton. By the same token, I've seen some questionable looking stuff floating around the store so I guess this isn't too surprising.

@Tyranthraxus
To my knowledge, no one has tried to pass anti-encryption legislation in the US since the 1990s. What you are thinking of are legal battles between the government and companies, and these have gone in the favor of the private sector up 'til now. But earlier this year the DOJ (and it's counterparts in four other countries, including Australia) signaled they would be seeking powers just like this. Australia has set a precedent, and the intelligence community and law enforcement will use that when seeking these powers for themselves. In the meantime, they can just use Australia's powers, since requests from foreign governments are a valid reason for using them, and they can reach any company (or individuals inside of the company) so long as that company serves people in Australia.

In other words, it has to do with this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes

To add to the fun, the legislation is expected to have amendments added to it early next year, so you can expect the powers to be expanded and any loopholes closed. I mean, at the last minute it went from "serious crimes only" to "serious crimes and anything with a minimum penalty of 3 years or more". Yeah, it's going to be fun for everyone.

I'm not really sure where your optimism is coming from. The legislation is a disaster for the privacy of ordinary Australians, but it probably won't be for the nation as a whole. I'm betting that most tech companies won't pull out of Australia. But even if they did, they can't pull out of New Zealand, Canada, the United States, and Canada too---and every single one of those countries is intent upon enacting legislation just like this.

It got passed in Australia in spite of legislative hurdles (they skipped the part of the review process to hurry it through), in spite of Australia's own experts opposing it, and in spite of the electorate not wanting it (less than one percent of people who wrote in about it were in favor). How is it going to be different over here? The CLOUD Act is a direct sucker punch to the Fourth Amendment, and it was passed without ever being voted on---they just stuffed it into that must-pass spending bill and called it a day.

I'n not trying to be flippant: if there really is a reason to be optimistic about all of this turning around, I'd like to know about it so I can feel hopeful too.

Other Western powers--including the US and Canada--have designs on crafting and passing similar legislation. Sure, Australia might lose some business and talent at first, but soon enough this legislation will be the norm, with politicians world-wide citing Australia's law as a successful precedent. And no matter how stupid an idea it is, it will be successful. It's not like having these powers makes it harder to catch criminals.
