So a crossing guard has more obligation to protect you than a police officer? Interesting.

Its horrifying to me, to imagine what it would be like to be a student in the US knowing that you have an increasingly high risk of being shot to death while in school and not only are armed law enforcement not required to protect you, but youre even prohibited from protecting yourself because you cant carry a weapon or try to escape the school if its in lockdown. If I were living in that reality, I think I wouldve dropped out and taken courses online for my GED. Its shocking that the current state of affairs is acceptable to majority of the American public.

I think theres a popular misconception that bisexual means liking men and women 50/50, so thats where some of the confusion comes from when someone comes out but appears to have only had opposite-sex partners prior.

A bisexual man couldve had crushes on 30 women and 2 men. Or 10 women and 6 men. Or any number, really. And if they didnt say anything or act on their interest in the same sex, youd just never know.

A newly-out bisexual man whos had only women partners in the past is probably very normal. Men are assumed to be interested in women so its easier for them to find female partners or for the women to find them. Its harder to find potential same-sex partners especially since a person approached could react very poorly, even violently.

Another misconception is that bisexual people are more sexually promiscuous or interested in sleeping with many people of either sex, but thats not true either. If they want relationships and not hookups, they might actually never date a person of the same sex. Theyre just looking for a good mate, male or female, and maybe at times in their life when theyre single, they keep finding the best potential partner is of the opposite sex.

So basically, your friends are pretty normal. Being bisexual just isnt what most people assume it is.

The worst parenting Ive ever witnessed has always been while waiting at the hospital or for medical tests.

The last time I was in the ER waiting room, a mother of two horrendous children basically shoved her little brats towards another mother who had brought a portable DVD player to entertain her very well-behaved son, like it was just expected that she should have to share. Bad-mom then bragged that she had bought her kids iPads, but they both broke them the first day they had them, one by bringing it into the bathtub with her. Keep in mind these kids werent old enough to be taking a bath unsupervised. Brat children hollered, argued, ran around, threw food, and did everything in their power to drive everyone crazy for 3 hours until finally a bed was free for me and I got to leave that hellscape.

Is it less obvious that they're probably related like Simba and Nala?

Its less obvious, but one can still assume theyre related. Kovu is from a group of lions that are almost definitely just exiled former members of the main pride, and its hinted that Scar was probably his father.

Although, as a kid, I never once wondered who Nalas father was, but I did think Scar was Kovus dad ... so maybe the family ties are actually even more obvious in The Lion King 2?

Its not possible for toothpaste ingredients to accumulate in your body because most molecules cannot simply diffuse and enter into your bloodstream (unless you perpetually have open wounds in your mouth).

And probably obvious question, but have you considered that a bacterial or viral infection is responsible for your symptoms? It just sounds like youve been sick, especially because you mention you picked up a sinus infection before even switching toothpastes.

If you really do think its the toothpaste, simply switch to another toothpaste and see what happens. In the meantime, go see your primary care physician if you havent already.

Since I became sick, Ive been to the ER at least 6 times, seen my primary care physician, two internal medicine specialists, an endocrinologist, a gastroenterologist, a naturopath, and two surgeons (and had my gallbladder taken out which helped a little bit but overall didnt do much). Im probably forgetting some doctors. Theres been a lot of appointments ... Ive had so many blood tests Ive lost count, plus a bunch of imaging tests and scopes. Everythings coming back fine, yet I feel unwell every single day, sometimes to an extreme. Thats why Im considering weird possibilities, because after a year and a half of being told everything looks fine when I definitely dont feel fine, clearly whatever is wrong with me is something uncommon.

Also Im thankful every day that Im Canadian and the most Ive had to pay for all those doctors visits and procedures was $12 in parking at the hospital a few times.

Whatever is in Sensodyne that reduces tooth sensitivity probably enters the gums, doesnt it? I had to start using it when I got a sinus infection and my gums became extremely painful. It helped a lot and I just kept using it since then.

Im looking at anything that may have changed about my normal routine in early 2017, even something small like a change of toothpaste, because in July 2017 I suddenly became extremely ill, but there were little things happening for a few months prior that make me think something wasnt quite right for a while. Nausea, dizziness and pain have been daily occurrences for me since last summer and its getting very frustrating.

I know there are cases where people have used cosmetics or skincare that over time made them feel unwell. Usually those were due to contamination or unsafe ingredients, but things like salycilate sensitivity happen too, where theyre sensitive to an ingredient and it builds up in their body. In theory then, theres no reason why toothpaste couldnt cause issues, but Im curious if theres been real life cases where someones health has changed significantly due to using a different toothpaste.

I have a very odd question.

Is it possible that a person could have an allergy or sensitivity to an ingredient in toothpaste, that doesnt manifest immediate symptoms (no mouth sores, heart palpitations right after brushing, etc.), but causes long term symptoms like daily dizziness, digestive issues, etc. as the ingredient builds up in their body due to the toothpaste being used every day?

Im asking because of a health situation Im going through, so this isnt some random stupid question. Toothpastes like Sensodyne or even a whitening toothpaste, that have medicinal ingredients, could they begin to cause problems over a few weeks as theyre absorbed into the bloodstream daily via the gums?

If you arent sure what something is on the menu, ask the waiter or google image it. We all cant know everything, though it is a little bit weird that you dont even know what veggie wraps are. Also, if you want a basic club sandwich but the restaurant has other stuff in it, just tell them not to put those things. No restaurant will give you a hard time about leaving things out, because for all they know, you have an allergy. Or just ask them if they can make a sandwich with what you want in it. Worst they could say is no.

Goths are still around, in the same capacity as theyve been for at least the past 15 years.

Emos are around too. Theres just a lot less of them. My Chemical Romance breaking up definitely led to a lot of them moving on, plus a lot of the other popular emo bands either broke up or changed their image and music. Theres still a bunch of them though, especially in the UK. Aside from the mid-2000s emo sound and look continuing on, theres emo rap now which is somewhat popular (or was, before Lil Peep died), and a new wave of dedicated MCR fans that are mostly 12-14 year olds who for some inexplicable reason believe that the band will make a comeback any time now. And post-hardcore is still doing fine (a lot of it is basically emo music).

Now that Warped Tour has had its final run, it remains to be seen how emo will survive. The emo look is pretty dead though. I miss it, and the scene kid look too. That was a fun time.

I feel like goths have had more longevity because goth music spans many genres (rock, punk, pop, electronic, metal, etc.) and even the goth look has variations (pastel goth, cybergoth, health goth). Emo is significantly more limited, plus its very much a youth cultural thing. Its acceptable to be a goth in your 40s. No 40 year old identifies as emo.

TopicWhy is there such a disproportionate gender gap in incarceration rates?
renasunflash
10/26/18 8:50:45 PM
#24
Men are more likely to commit violent crimes and therefore more likely to be incarcerated.

As for what drives them to act violently, I feel society plays more of a role than anything inherent. They grow up seeing male heroes commiting violence in movies, sports violence, army glorification, rap culture - theres an endless stream of media telling us all that the men we should look up to typically carry a gun and / or just need to beat on people sometimes, and society celebrates this. So when a young man feels frustrated because he lacks social status or someone has something he wants, whats going to be in his mind? Violence. And if he doesnt have strong connections to his community, no job, or few law-abiding friends and family members, theres very little incentive to follow the rules.

Women, on the other hand, are indoctrinated by the media to be crowd-pleasers, looking pretty and being seen with other beautiful people. Theyre told their power comes from having a big social circle, looking good, and caring for others. Even the powerful feminist heroes who may commit violent acts do it to protect themselves or others, not for power or personal gain. So when women want something or seek power, and lack positive connections to their community, they shoplift or stalk or hurt people socially, crimes which typically dont lead to incarceration. Or they go have a kid, because the status of mother gives them some power.

Women who end up in prison are often there because theyve killed an abusive partner, which interestingly follows that media depiction of women commiting violence to protect. Men, on the other hand, kill because they were denied something they wanted. Thats the key difference in thinking, thats socialized and not inherent, which is contributing to the difference in incarceration rates. Women are taught that they cant have everything they want and there will always be some degree of suffering in their lives. Men are taught that everything is theirs for the taking if theyre tough enough.

If your response to sex being painful for her is to go online and accuse her of being garbage at sex, you honestly dont deserve to be with her at all. Or any woman. Like I get why its frustrating for you, but damn thats rude and inconsiderate. Shes literally suffering to try to please you, I bet youre still climaxing anyway while she isnt, and you just had to add in a little complaint that she wont take hormone-altering drugs to further increase your sexual pleasure.

As another poster suggested, she probably has vaginismus or another condition. Its not that uncommon, and a gynaecologist will help her figure it out. Maybe instead of thinking with your dick, you could get your head out of your ass and show some consideration for your partner, like maybe see about covering the cost for her to see a doctor. But if she doesnt want to, thats her business. She shouldnt have to undergo any sort of medical treatment just because you want unrealistic porn-like sex.

Yes. I would prefer a husband who is sexually experienced so I can benefit from his sexual skills. The only way to get good at something is to practice. I hope he gets lots of (safe, disease-free) practice and that Im skilled too when we meet, so we can have the best possible life together.

But for the record, I dont actually want to get married, so Id have to meet someone truly exceptional to ever seriously consider becoming a wife. Anyone who talks like an anime character (the right path of truth and light) and cant be bothered to go to temple despite talking up the virtues of moral, cultural and religious righteousness ... I mean, I suppose thats a type of exceptional, but not the type a woman would be lucky to marry.

The only albums i haven't listened to in their entirety are Artwork and their latest

Artwork has one of my favorite songs by them. "Blood on my Hands", but thinking about it I'm not actually sure I listened to most of the other songs on the album.

I picked up "The Canyon" (their latest album). There's a few songs that I really like from the album, but the album sounds really quiet when I play it through the bluetooth in my car so it's really hard to differentiate the songs. There's not even a youtube album stream for it so I could listen to it at work.

Artwork is their best album. Theyve been pretty good about putting out solid albums but that one in particular hits hard. It was leaked online a while before the release day and one of the tracks had a clip of a monologue from some homophobic hateful religious guy that segued into the song. Their label made them remove it for the official release but it added a lot of power to the anti-religion sentiment of the song.

Shortly after, I saw them live and the only song they played off this album was the single. The rest of their set list was all older songs. So I thought, if the band doesnt even want to promote Imaginary Enemy on their own headlining tour, its not worth listening to. Its as if they didnt even like the music they put out, because if they liked it and believed in it, they wouldve performed some of it.

I dont really get the whole expensive steak thing tbh. First off, I dont like steak (or restaurant food in general), but thinking about foods I do like, theres definitely a price point where you arent getting anything better for any additional money. Id say $40 is about it for something like steak. You pay $40 for some meat dish and youre getting a premium meal. That $90 steak wont be better than the $40 steak.

His brothers statement that shaving on the train and throwing the foam on the ground was normal to this man, really leaves me with a lot of questions.

If the idea is that we should feel bad for noticing his poor manners simply because its now known that hes homeless, Im not really feeling it. Hes never noticed that no one else shaves on public transit? He thinks people just toss used shaving cream onto the floor wherever they happen to be? Someone also noted there was a bathroom on the train, so hes really got no excuse. He probably wasnt doing this at the homeless shelter or in the hospital, and if he did, he wouldve been reprimanded so he definitely knew this is bad behaviour. His brother mentioned hes got a history of not thinking about the consequences of his actions - maybe a bit of public shaming will do him some good. Being homeless and having suffered a stroke is sad but irrelevant, as most people in those groups still understand that shaving is done in a bathroom.

People shouldnt take pictures or videos of other people without permission though. Thats also bad manners, and doing so with the intent of mocking someone is more offensive than shaving while on a train.
