In contrary to the guy above, in at will states, the employer can fire you without reason, as you can quit immediately.

This is why I was wondering if being fired for putting in your two weeks was better or worse than leaving without giving your two weeks...

Yeah...I thought about that after I typed the original response. But, if your current company appreciates you, the chances of being fired for putting in your 2 weeks notice is low. I just cant imagine too many companies thatll retaliate one for leaving by firing that person first. It seems off...

The most that I can see a reasonable company will do is give you your 2 weeks pay and let you go right there. Ie. No firing.

If you already have a job lined up, I cant really imagine it would matter how you left the last job.

To my understanding, the 2 week notice is more of a formality in at will states. The reasons you mentioned are correct.

There are companies thatll keep you working during the 2 weeks, but there are others thatll give you a box, your 2 week pay, and tell you to clean out and go home.

In contrary to the guy above, in at will states, the employer can fire you without reason, as you can quit immediately.
