And speaking for myself, what happens when I'm listening for VGMC, I'm listening impatiently because I'm just doing my duty of listening to a song so I can say if I enjoyed it more than the other. DragonImps posted... I usually listen intently, without doing anything else, but I still find it difficult to retain the music or think of things to say about it most of the time.One of the big problems with VGMC in general is that fact that most people are evaluating the music in each match based on their first, maybe second, listen, in the first round. As everyone should know, it takes multiple listens over a period of time for music to grow on you. (also, sometimes you get excited about some songs on your first listen, but then afterwards you realize you don't like it that much) I came up with an idea a couple of months ago: I would be happy to assist with this problem by posting a weekly pre-voting VGMC playlist in the results topic. For example, a week before the contest begins I will create a Youtube playlist with only the music for the first seven days of the contest. I would then keep doing this every week until all the first round matches are done. Then hopefully most users will listen through the music a couple of times. beforehand, even if it just plays in the background as they do other activities. Sure, you could say creating a 192/256-sized playlist of all the music could accomplish the same thing...however, I think it is less convenient and less helpful to do it that way. Of course, having a full list is definitely helpful, as well! But... man. I don't like the idea of anyone voting when they aren't giving their full attention to the music...unless they can easily tell which music they like more, of course. --- "Ah, a party! | Haste_2 12/25/19 5:54:03 PM #43 | If we get rid of the "random" selection regarding nomination tiebreakers, I think GBA's idea of favoring disadvantages nominators would be nice. I have other ideas, as well: how about favoring nominations submitted by contest vets, as well? (not that I consider myself much of a vet, as I've only been a major participant in one contest) Another factor to consider is if there are other songs from the same game or series already in the contest. (i.e. if there are three Final Fantasy songs and only one Mega Man song in the bracket, favor the Mega Man song in a tiebreaker) All of these ideas could be combined into a simple algorithm. azuarc posted... On this note, one idea I kicked around was to lock a song once it got to 5 and guarantee it a slot in the bracket. This not only slows down potential hopping, but it also lets you not have such intense agita going into the final day. On the other hand, it also suppresses the fun of the last day, which a few people really revel in. But it also wouldn't completely freeze out the final day madness like being unable to remove anything would do. I totally agree with this! I do have another thought: I think it should be impressed in the minds of nominators that they are expected to participate in the contest (i.e. do more than just show up for matches featuring their nominations) if they participate in nominations. (I have been guilty of this multiple times, and I regret what I did) And if they don't participate, well... DQ them from nominations for the next year? (but not permanently) Maybe nominators should have to vote in a minimum of 20 individual matches or something? My main motive here is not to punish or pressure users, but to increase participation from those who ought to, and also to reduce nominations from those who really AREN'T that interested in the contest. Regarding the actual bracket design, I thought last year's contest went well. The use of byes in a 192x bracket worked fine, in retrospect. I'm fine with the bracket being reduced to 128, too. 256 is a bit much for most everyone, IMO. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So... what is a party?" (edit: it's worse than I remember it being) But hey, that makes all cases replayed now (out of order) for the first time since 2008! 4-1 > 4-2 > 4-4 >>>> 4-3. The one cool thing about the case was the idea of having events follow to lyrics to fake the killer's alibi. Other than that, it's hard to find any redeeming qualities. Machi is a crap defendant. Lamiroir spends way too much time on the stand, and is ridiculously stubborn. Daryan is an extremely unlikeable character, too. Why did no one discover the firecrackers, and why did Phoenix have them? Why did nobody find the switches on day 1? Why did nobody verify the time of death (the autopsy report omits it)? For crying out, he died of blood loss, which means it would have taken several minutes for LeTouse to die. Then there's the fact that Machi couldn't have possibly shot that 45-caliber gun..... --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So... what is a party?" I've been working on a project where the formatting for certain columns keep changing to "date" without my permission. I've tried protecting the formatting of the sheets, and it didn't help. The formatting is still changing many of the cells to "date". I'm guessing part of the reason I'm having this issue is because there are a lot of tabs/data. Are there any tricks I could try to prevent this from happening? Or should I just switch to Google Docs? --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So... what is a party?" I don't know my styles, but samba is my best guess. Regardless, I'm pretty sure it's the same style as Cut Man's stage theme in MM1! Edit: turns out a bossa nova is a sub-category within samba....
