And speaking for myself, what happens when I'm listening for VGMC, I'm listening impatiently because I'm just doing my duty of listening to a song so I can say if I enjoyed it more than the other.

This definitely happens to me too! It's not every single match (maybe because I've got the newcomer enthusiasm); it depends on how my day's been and if I've got other stuff to do at the time. It's days like those when I welcome the sub-3 minute songs and dread the appearance of uploads with length exceeding 5:59. 2 matches feels like the sweet spot for me, because it tends to be ~15 minutes of listening and 4 songs is about how many I can have floating around in my head for when I review the day and comment on its matches.

I might feel less exhausted by 3 or 4 matches if each "day" ran for 48 hours, but new topics still went up every 24 hours. It doesn't actually change how much you have to listen to each day on average, but at least I'd get an extra day to schedule my "VGMC voting" timeslot or spread it out over two sessions.

I'm obviously a big fan of the EO5 arrange, but I think it had a fair enough shot at retirement this year and would be curious to see if the original could make a good run as well. Their Own Brand of Justice and Hoist the Sword with Pride in the Heart might also be good picks in a similar style, though the latter didn't fare too well in VGMC7...

Oh hey, I think I'll find this really useful with me being new this year and still trying to get a grasp on the board's tastes! This year I got 5 noms in, 4 of which lost immediately...

I felt like 192 songs was already a lot and wouldn't mind bringing it back to 128; all those matches eventually got draining as a voter, too. I might be able to help out by re-organizing the hosting spreadsheet? There looks to be a lot of copying between sheets to create the daily posts and record results that my inner Excel spirit really wants to improve.

Kevin's in a pretty powerful position as far as living out your life goes. Until he decides he is "ready," he has the entire world to himself and infinite time to travel, eat, play, and explore wherever he wants with his near-immortality. I feel like he would end up making the most of his infinite life until satisfied and letting the Supermen end it all for him; it doesn't seem worth his while to prepare for enough time to make anyone go insane for the chance at bragging rights that you beat a bunch of Supermen. Unless...there's an even greater reward at stake if he does manage to win?

Oh wait, I totally had more thoughts on this that I forgot to write down, and now people are already moving on to other projects! First of all, I'm just surprised it took this many contests for Umineko to win - the game's got 8 VGMC retirees, for crying out loud! As much as the board's tastes shift year after year, I guess some things never change! And I'm definitely starting to appreciate its popularity after being shown some highlight songs this contest. Makes me feel like Chiru deserves a second chance as the spiritual successor - losing twice to Return to Dream Land and Chrono Cross is no way to go out! Overall, my favourite discoveries from the contest were probably The World of Spirit, Discolor, and...all of Drakengard 3.

My general feeling on BOST is that it should fill the role of a "side event" in the empty months between VGMCs. Although I do discover more music through BOST, the concept of having contestants compete against each other just lends itself better to individual songs than it does entire soundtracks. I feel like it could be scaled down and just be a fun bonus thing rather than trying to be as significant as VGMC, given that the setlists are just approximations of soundtracks anyway. Not to mention making it easier on the host - I was pretty surprised at how much work deo had to do to determine which songs would show up based on what point each game had gone from Winners to Losers, and if they had any past tiebreaker matches! Definitely seems like it takes more effort than VGMC, at least in bracket phase. So maybe it could do with a smaller bracket size and/or more straightforward format to make it more of a side event.
