The best compromise to ensure for both representation of small towns and larger cities is, in my opinion, to allocate the number of votes each candidate gets to a percentage of the total EC votes for the state and the candidate gets that number of those votes.

This really is just popular-vote-lite. It also still gives smaller states disproportionate voting power as they get more votes than their population would imply.

Just remember that California and Texas essentially will make all elective decisions for our country.

20 million registered voters in California.
16 million in Texas

And about 140 million people voted in 2016.

That's 26% of the voting population. If you only pandered to those states, you'd lose.

(Oh and there's about 240 million people eligible total. So, y'know. Even smaller percentage of voters live in those states.)

Making it popular vote would just give a rather strong incentive for the 46 other states to literally secede from the union. Effectively, only four states would matter with the largest cities and people in rural areas would be screwed.

1. a small handful of states already decide our elections in the current system, and the only difference is that these states happen to vote republican more often.
2. Popular vote wouldn't add or remove power from populous states. the top 10 largest cities in the US collectively have less than 8% of the entire US population.

I like the prequels.

Were they good? No. But I had fun watching them. I liked Anakin and Obi Wan as a duo. I liked seeing the Republic. I liked all the new locations.

But the Sequel Trilogy doesn't do much in those departments so far. Finn was the only good character at first where Poe and Rey were one dimensional. Then he becomes wasted potential and Rey kind of steps up.

We know next to nothing about the new Republic or the First Order except good guys vs bad guys. And the locations have all been fairly dull looking and repetitive.

Rogue One was the best modern star wars film to date. I hope Rise of Skywalker is good.
