It can be bad, but it's basically like being called an asshole with regards to race. My friends and I call each other assholes all the time when we make stupid jokes. I also think Hitler and Mussolini were assholes, but to a much larger degree. There's levels to these things. Me calling someone a racist, especially if it's a loved one, doesn't mean I think they want to kill people and openly discriminate against them. Usually I just think they don't treat others the same way they'd want to be treated. |

They're kind to me and I have a great time with them, but they support people who don't really care about my kind or other marginalized groups. My Republican loved ones are racist, whether they're willing to admit it or not. Hell, a lot of my Democrat friends are racist too, but at least they don't make excuses for it. |

The episode calls for nuance without actually giving any. |
