You know what I haven't seen talked about regarding the ratings of the trial, and how 'no one watched, no one cared came out yesterday.

Disney+ came out yesterday. Massive giant distraction service came out yesterday the same day as the impeachment hearings. They can say running it across six networks did nothing, but a streaming service doesn't need to be broadcast. This isn't like if they aired during the Super Bowl because one would preempt the other on at least one of the networks. There's a legitimate shiny object that I knew more people were watching or talking about at work yesterday than the hearings, and nothing mentions it.

It's correlation and not really linked together, except the Democrats are dumbasses for putting the first event the same day Disney+ launches.

A break at 8:54 before votes are read. With the black screens of production tonight, I'm still on edge for what's to come, but logically I know that with a two-hour episode and two idols that could be played, there's no need for credits or previews so 8:59 can go into 9:00 seamlessly.

But also... Dan can't go home yet because I don't think they'd show all this happening if that was the end of that; production would likely find some other, non-controversial way to explain that boot... and Kellee going home with two idols would be odd, but it could definitely happen.

DWIII was and is still amazing with a great customizable party, a good story, an excellent world, and as the GBC version... MONSTER MEDALS! I beat it once way back in the day, and farmed MONSTER MEDALS while watching competitive Starcraft matches a decade ago. Took me over a year to finally play through and beat this game due to a number of personal issues:

1. I wouldn't go past a boss until I got its medal, with the exception of base Orochi because of that damn item drop. This would lead to tons of ten-minute replays where I'd just get stuck in a loop.
2. Playing on a Game Boy Color with faulty power meant I could only play during the day and near a plug, and not move or do anything else lest the wire come easily loose and reset the progress.
3. MONSTER MEDALS. Kept wanting to just get EVERYTHING despite being at the last boss, and knowing I likely wasn't going to do the Bonus Dungeon anytime soon.

Still an amazing game though, despite noticing I have a lot of problems which... we'll talk about again very quickly.

Cat Quest - Pretty fun.

Tales of Zestiria is... it's a good game. Not as good as Berseria, but it has its charms. Like Berseria, I got stymied by wanting to do everything before finishing up, even knowing none of it matters because items and levels don't carry over into New Game Plus. Spent most of the game doing as much in Chaos as I could, and fighting most bosses in Hard or Normal if I got frustrated. I can see now why there are lots of endgame build guides because I can't imagine the final gauntlet of boss fights on Chaos unless you're solid at everything. Part of me would enjoy playing this again.

Dragon Quest VI - A lot of fun. Going to miss having a good game to play at work during downtime. Had some enjoyment with my own sidecanon while playing. I was surprised by how much the game catered to my silliness.

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle."

I'm not sure how exactly to categorize Catch-22. At its core it's a satire on the irrationality of war, but what kind of one? It can be very funny and very depressing, oftentimes in the same scene. Tonal whiplash and circular logic is used so often that over the course of reading the book you become numbed to absurdity. Awful events occur and you just go...should I laugh at this? Cry? Shrug? Catch-22 uses its prose and story framing to great effect, imposing the same deteriorated mental state on its reader that the war does on its central character Yossarian. When something truly irrational happens, and you know it's wrong, but no one else acknowledges or cares, what's a man supposed to do?

It's also an extremely clever story. The specific Catch-22 rule by itself would be enough to base an entire story off of, but the book also has stuff like the bizarre career advancement of Major Major Major Major and the extremely tense and dramatic milk run, just to name a few things. I won't be able to do Catch-22 justice with this writeup - doing so would only spoil the oddities that are so fun to discover, while simultaneously not being able to capture the particular way they're portrayed in-writing.

I guess that's the Catch-22 of writing a list like this. The easiest to make someone want to experience a story is to tell them why it's good. The more you tell them why it's good, the more interested they will become in reading/watching/whatevering the story to experience it like you did. But the more you tell them of the story beforehand, the less likely they are to be impressed by it. The best way to get someone to enjoy a story is not to tell them anything about the story. But by not telling them anything about the story, they'll never know they should experience it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go plot against my commander over trying to get me killed via incompetence.

Ender's Game and Speaker were both stellar. I've been really, really bad at getting through books over the past decade-plus, and I'm still in awe of not only how quickly I read through Ender's Game, but also how much information (I believe) I still retain.

Speaker for the Dead was an absolutely brilliant look at communication and culture clash. I need to read it again.

Tales of Berseria... ahhh, while I agree that the final bits of the story just... I wouldn't say they're bad or even disappointing, but that Velvet's journey and those of her teammates are just so good that the resolutions mostly existed?

I'm playing through Tales of Zestiria at the moment and I'm just impressed by how much better Berseria is at pretty much everything including world building, lore, character motivations and growth, humor, plot, etc. I thought maybe some of the things Berseria does with new ideas or improvements would be like prequel bait for things in Zestiria, but it feels like the Star Wars prequels where there are tons of cool and shiny CG things and R2-D2 can rocket around, but Zestiria feels even more ancient.

Both their equipment systems SUCK however, with minimum to no NG+ rollover.
