A few things come to mind from tending bar and waiting tables.

On two occasions, I've been told to shout at someone's kid because "they will behave if you yell at them, they don't listen to me".

Then I was serving a family who had two twin boys of about four or five years old. Sweet kids. As they were eating, one of the kids says:

"Daddy, did you know in China, sometimes they use sticks to eat food? My teacher told me."

The father loudly slams his cutlery down and screams "SHUT THE FUCK UP."

Without bothering with too much detail, my father passed away when I was four. Grew up from four to seventeen with an abusive stepfather.

But I really don't believe any of that has to do with my current life. I don't get why I'm so lazy and self destructive. I feel like I'm capable of critical thinking, but I can't understand how this can be a case of cause and effect.

I'll have a moment at home where I consider what it would be like if I ended myself, then spend another few moments wondering why I'm an attention seeking douchebag.

Seems to be this whole thing about how we should be taking mental health (especially men's) more seriously. We need to TALK about it. We need to have the CONVERSATION.

I disagree.

Who knows what depression is, really? How can you diagnose yourself with that?

However, within the past year, I've apparently done that. One night, I messaged a friend of mine asking to come for a drink and a chat."

He's like "Sorry, bro. I just got off work and I'm kinda tired."

I insisted he meet me in a place right next to my apartment. He eventually relented and upon seeing him I burst into tears and proclaimed "I think I'm depressed."

I'm an emotional wreck these days. I had a shitty childhood WHICH I 100% DO NOT BELIEVE IN TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT. Childhood is childhood, I cannot blame my feelings or actions on anything that happened to me as a child.

I honestly can't stand people who blame their shitty behaviour on a poor upbringing. You're an adult now and you make your own journey.

I can't really pinpoint where my 'depression', if that's what it is, comes from. The feeling that my life is going nowhere? That I feel like I've never reached my potential and I'm 28 and most of the time I feel like a pathetic drunk?

That I manage a bar from 7pm til 4am and spend 90% of the remaining hours in the day sleeping or dozing on the couch/bed, leading to my electricity and water being cut off because I don't pay my bills for months at a time?

That I really want marriage and a family, but I only have two occasional booty calls that I can't commit to because I'm scared I'll bring people down with me?

The list goes on. I think about K'ing my S every single day, but I know I won't.

And now all I see on social media is posts encouraging men to 'speak out' and I'm constantly being reminded that "Hey, you're one of these people who need to do that" and honestly, it's making things worse.

Sorry for the rant and ramble. I'm drunk as usual. Xx

Part of my blog. Tell me it's funny and not offensive or homophobic.

Meeting Cliff Richard.

Wanna hear about the time I met Cliff Richard?

It started off when I was dragged, kicking and screaming, into a visit to his vineyard. Cliff Richard is famous for many things, y'know. The absolute least of which is his home and vineyard in the Algarve, Portugal.

In the restaurant that I worked in at the time, there was this woman and son who spent their hard-earned cash to go on Cliff's house and wine tour. I tried Cliff's Vida Nova wine once before and it tasted like burnt hair, so I was never super up for the idea. Also (I hereby apologise to all your grandmas) I was never a fan of his music, tbh.

So this dude and his mother: They'd come over for a holiday at least twice a year and they'd always go on the tour. And they would return to the restaurant for their early supper completely decked out in Cliff Richard merch. We're talking hats, t-shirts and keyrings with our boy Cliff emblazoned upon them, along with two complementary bottles of sewer-infused grape juice.

They were lovely people. And they invited me constantly to join them on the next time they went to fawn over their hero.

One day, they hit me with a classic bait-and-switch.

"We're going to see Cliff's place this Thursday." they said. "When is your day off?"

"Alas" said I. "My day off has been unfortunately changed this week until - uhh, Saturday."

"Oh wait!" they say. "We're actually going on Saturday. Our mistake. We'll pick you up from here at 11am?"

Me: "FUUUUUUUUU- okay, sure."

My fate was sealed.

---

Three days later, we rocked up to Sir Cliff's house for the tour.

Initially, a Portuguese dude showed us around the house. We weren't allowed inside obviously. Would you let a bunch of deranged obsessive fans into your house if you were super famous? Fuck no.

Then they showed us the vineyard and gave some speech about Cliff Richard himself adoring the Algarve and his love for the place and it's luxurious cost-effective wines and how he was therefore inspired into designing his own celebrity-endorsed piss water bullshit.

But WAIT, exclaimed the tour guide. We have a VERY special guest this evening. Fresh off his stint in other parts of the world doing the things he is, in fact, inexplicably famous for, Sir Cliff Apparent Wine Connoisseur Richard is here in person.

The collective female octogenarians nearly drowned in puddles of their own making as the man himself appeared before us looking as if the last thing he wanted was to greet 50-odd people who had been prowling around his backyard for 40 minutes.

But Sir Cliff was very gracious about the fact and we all stood in a huge queue, believing ourselves worthy of saying hello to the guy whose UK music sales are third behind only The Beatles and Elvis Motherfucking Presley.

Eventually, it was my turn to shake his hand. I was nervous, tbh. It was like meeting the Queen. (If you know what I mean ;) )

He greeted me warmly, did Sir Cliff. And hugged me closely.

And firmly gripped my buttoc- no, but seriously, we all know that Sir Cliff might be a bit gay. It's not a problem for me, obviously. Kind of hurts that I have to even say that in 2019.

But I honestly reckon the guy deserves more credit. He's a legend. A living legend. (Or a Living Doll, lmao) I've already mentioned his music career prowess and although I personally can't stand any of it, there's no denying he is very popular with a lot of people and a decent chap as well.

I definitely recommend going on his tour and maybe you'll be as lucky as me in meeting the man himself.

(His wine is undoubtedly shit, though.)

Surely, he would now want to carry on his Stark/Targaryen lineage to honour Ned and his real mother and father?
