That's one of the things I was getting at in my post about the BBQ lawsuit. I have a friend who will post things on social media like videos or articles and comments things like "Please watch/read" or "please consider a vegan lifestyle" - polite and non-confrontational.

Then you have the "Why must you consume the flesh of tortured animals" drama queens who make me want to eat steak out of sheer spite. If they're trying to lay a guilt trip, I can say that at least as far I'm concerned I feel zero guilt in eating meat, in front of vegans or otherwise.

If I've changed my diet to include less meat over the past few years, it has more to do with climate science and thoughtful conversations with more rational vegan friends and absolutely nothing to do with guilt trip BS like "meat is murder!l" etc

https://www.foxnews.com/health/rooster-pecked-woman-death-freak-attack.amp

On the heels of a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about backyard chickens spreading illness to people in 49 states comes a harrowing tale about a woman who was killed by a rooster that delivered a lethal strike to a varicose vein in her leg.

According to the report, which was published in the journal Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology, the 76-year-old had been collecting eggs at her home in Australia when the aggressive rooster attacked her lower-left leg. The woman collapsed, with an autopsy later revealing two small lacerations on her leg, including one on a varicose vein, LiveScience reported.

Her cause of death was listed as exsanguination, which is a severe loss of blood, caused by the roosters aggressive pecking. The attack is considered rare by the reports authors, with one telling LiveScience that it demonstrates that even relatively small domestic animals may be able to inflict lethal injuries in individuals if there are specific vascular vulnerabilities present.

Any superficial vein may become vericosed, which means twisted and enlarged, but they are most commonly found in the legs. According to the MayoClinic, they are most often a cosmetic concern, but in some cases they can lead to more serious issues. They are typically caused by damaged or weakened valves, but there are several risk factors that may be at play including age, sex, pregnancy, family history, obesity, or sitting or standing for long periods of time.

Patients most often only experience visible symptoms such as dark purple or blue veins, or veins that appear twisted or bulged. But some patients can experience an achy or heavy feeling in the legs, burning, throbbing, cramping or worsened pain after sitting or standing for a long time. Patients may also experience itching or skin discoloration. Complications tied to varicose veins may occur, which according to MayoClinic may include ulcers, blood clots or bleeding.

Physicians may recommend exercise, leg elevation or wearing a compression stocking to help ease the pain or prevent varicose veins from worsening. The reports authors also noted that the woman had several other underlying health issues including high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

I know vegans who never throw it in your face or demean you for eating meat, and vegans who politely advance their agenda in a non-confrontational way.

But like any societal or cultural grouping there's always going to be a smattering of assholes. Add in that vegan assholes can be very preachy and judgmental and the asshole factor goes through the roof. Vegan assholes are assholes on such a phenomenally asshole level that it can skew your perception of vegans as a whole, so much that your patience around vegans is stretched so thin that it doesn't take much for even non-asshole vegans to get on your nerves

The Nov. 7, 2009 beating in Morgantown, W.Va., resulted in the arrests of Austin Vantrease, 19, and Jonathan May, a student at the time at WVU. The paper reported that May threw the first punch after sneaking up from behind.
Once on the ground, the report said citing a witness that Vantrease kicked his head like a football. The injuries were extensive with bleeding in the brain.

Sucker punch and then a kick like that when the dude is already defenseless on the ground? Fuck both of them. Let them rot in prison

I don't care why the fight happened, why they attacked him. It clearly wasn't self-defense based on reports and witnesses. There's no justifying an attack like the one they did. Absolute cowards and scumbags

Absolutely not your fault. My kid has food allergies and if he was served something he is allergic to after I explicitly stated his allergies to the server, I would be livid.

There are "higher risk" establishments we avoid as a family, but as a whole, restaurants should be trained and prepped and knowledgeable in serving customers with allergies and other dietary needs. If they can't ensure the quality and safety of their food, then frankly they don't deserve to hold a license to serve food.

Far-Queue

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49522500

Two former New York detectives have walked free after admitting to having sex with a handcuffed 18-year-old woman after arresting her.
Eddie Martins and Richard Hall arrested the woman for possession of marijuana before having sex with her in the back of a van in exchange for her release.
They will serve five years probation but escaped the prosecutor's request for one to three years in prison.
The men were initially accused of rape but the charges were later dropped.
On Thursday the former police officers, both in their mid to late thirties, pleaded guilty to official misconduct and other charges linked to the incident.
The police officers pulled the woman over in September 2017 as she was driving with friends and found her to be in possession of marijuana.
They then took turns to have sex with her in the back of the police vehicle, the court heard. The police officers did not report the arrest.
Afterwards, the woman went to hospital, where tests identified DNA matching both detectives.
The rape charges were dropped because the victim's credibility was "seriously, seriously questionable" and the charges could not be proved beyond reasonable doubt, said Justice Danny Chun.
The woman's attorney, Michael N. David, said it was a "complete injustice" that the ex-police officers escaped a jail sentence.

As a result of the case, a loophole was closed that previously allowed New York police officers to have sex with those in custody as long as it was consensual.
Martins and Hall, who resigned from the New York police department in 2017, "engaged in a shocking abuse of power", said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, adding that he "would have preferred to see them serve prison time".
"We could not apply the new law retroactively, and serious credibility issues in this case precluded us from proceeding on additional charges," said Mr Gonzalez, "yet we remained committed to holding these defendants accountable".
