TMZ has learned. Family sources tell TMZ ... the actor passed away in his home in Hermosa Beach, CA ... just outside Los Angeles. We're told Max had battled cancer for years. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 1995, but had been in remission for a long time. Max was a veteran TV star whose most popular role was as Willie Tanner on the puppet-led sitcom -- which ran for 4 seasons on NBC. He's also known for acting in shows like "Buffalo Bill," "Cheers," "Misfits of Science," "Dudley" and "Norm." He also starred in a ton of movies -- "All That Jazz," "Reds," "The Sting II," "Soul Man," "The Shadow" and several others. All in all, Max had more than 60 credits to his name, dating back to 1974. His wife, Linda Ybarrondo, to whom he was married since 1965, died in 2017 from breast cancer. They had 2 children together. Topic | Beth Chapman, Dog the Bounty Hunter's wife, has died at 51 |
Scorsese2002 06/26/19 12:09:14 PM #1 | https://www.tmz.com/2019/06/26/beth-chapman-dead-dies-51-dog-bounty-hunter-wife/ Beth Chapman, who along with her husband, Duane "Dog" Chapman, appeared for years on the iconic show, "Dog the Bounty Hunter," is dead. Beth died Wednesday at a Honolulu hospital, days after being placed in a medically-induced coma. She had battled long and hard against cancer, which ultimately took her life. The 51-year-old announced in 2017 that she'd been diagnosed with stage II throat cancer, but was cancer free by December of that year. The cancer returned last November -- after which she underwent aggressive chemo and fought valiantly to maintain normalcy in her life ... sometimes going out for the evening with her husband. She said last month on Mother's Day she had stopped chemo. Dog just tweeted a goodbye to Beth, saying "Today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side." Beth endured at least one health scare over the past few months, having been rushed to the hospital in April for breathing trouble related to her cancer treatments. Beth became a licensed bail bondsman at age 29 -- the youngest in Colorado history. Her record was broken by her stepdaughter, Lyssa Chapman, who became licensed at age 19. She met Dog when she was 19 and he was 35 ... when she got in trouble with the law. She was in a grocery store and got distracted by a call from her boss, and she walked out with a lemon and got stopped for shoplifting. Turns out she had an unregistered, unlicensed gun in her pocket -- she had taken it from her then-boyfriend who was drunk at the time -- and Beth's dad called Dog to bail her out. They married in 2006, one day after Dog's daughter, Barbara Katy, was killed in a car crash in Alaska. Dog and Beth became international stars after "Dog the Bounty Hunter" debuted in 2003. The show ended its run in 2012. They did another show -- "Dog and Beth: On the Hunt" which ran through 2015. The couple took a break from TV for a bit, and during that time ... Beth ran for president of the Professional Bail Agents of the United States and won. They were in the process of filming a new show, "Dog's Most Wanted," which was set to air next year. It's unclear for now if their new program will make it to broadcast in light of Beth's death. We do know that Beth's health struggles were supposed to be a key storyline and that she was going to be front and center alongside Dog ... just like the old days. Production started in February -- but no word if the network they were working with, WGN America, completed a full season's worth of episodes or not. Beth herself said the series wouldn't hit the airwaves this year, but a trailer has already been released. Beth had 4 kids -- Dominic, Cecily, Bonnie Jo and Garry. The latter 2 she had with Dog. Beth also has 14 grandchildren ... one of whom she had custody of after Dog's daughter died in the crash -- and the boy's father was found to be abusive. She was 51. RIP --- |

Scorsese2002 06/03/19 11:27:19 AM #1 | https://variety.com/2019/music/news/jay-z-is-officially-a-billionaire-1203231415/ Jay-Z is the first hip-hop artist to become a billionaire, according to the new cover story in Forbes. The article opens by recalling a 2010 meeting between the rapper and billionaire Warren Buffet, from which the octogenarian came away impressed. Jay is teaching in a lot bigger classroom than Ill ever teach in, he said. For a young person growing up, hes the guy to learn from. Less than 10 years later, the magazine surveys Shawn Carters empire which spans music, a streaming service, liquor, art real estate and stakes in other companies and determines that it conservatively totals $1 billion. It also notes that he built his own brands: the Rocawear clothing line (sold for $204 million in 2007); DUss, a cognac he co-owns with Bacardi; Tidal, the music-streaming service; and his multifaceted Roc Nation music and sports empire. (Read the full report here.) The artists primary holdings follow, which Forbes calculated by looking at the artists stakes in companies like Armand de Brignac champagne applying our customary discount to private firms then added up his income, subtracting a healthy amount to account for a superstar lifestyle, which were then vetted by a roster of outside experts. Armand de Brignac champagne $310 million Cash & investments, including a stake in Uber worth an estimated $70 million $220 million DUss cognac $100 million Tidal streaming service $100 million Roc Nation $75 million Music catalog $75 million Art collection $70 million Real estate $50 million . . .First hip-hop billionaire? I thought Dr. Dre took that title a few years ago? --- |
Topic | Frank Lucas, drug kingpin, dies at 88 |
Scorsese2002 05/31/19 1:41:37 PM #1 | https://www.tmz.com/2019/05/31/frank-lucas-dead-dies-88-drug-dealer-american-gangster-denzel-washington Frank Lucas, one of America's most infamous drug kingpins, died Thursday night ... TMZ has confirmed. Frank, famously played by Denzel Washington in the 2007 movie "American Gangster," died in New Jersey, according to his brother. We're told Frank was being transported to a hospital for an unknown health issue and died on the way. Lucas rose to power dealing heroin in Harlem in the 1960s and '70s, and he boasted of cutting out middlemen by buying his product directly from Southeast Asia ... then smuggling the drugs back to America using the coffins of dead U.S. servicemen. Frank was born and raised in North Carolina before moving to New York City ... where he eventually got into the drug trade, cutting into the Italian mafia's business and carving a name for himself. Lucas bragged his heroin was among the purest on the street, and he infamously dubbed his product, "Blue Magic." While he was at the top of the NYC drug trade, Frank rubbed elbows with elites from Hollywood, politics and the business world. Frank was finally busted in the mid 1970s and all of his enormous assets and wealth were seized. Lucas owned property across the country in Chicago, Miami, Detroit, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina -- and even Puerto Rico. When the DEA raided Frank's Jersey home in 1975, agents found more than $584,000 in cash. Frank was convicted of federal and state drug violations ... and sentenced to 70 years in prison. Lucas ratted out others in the drug biz, and he and his family entered a witness protection program. After 5 years in custody, Frank had his sentence reduced to time served plus lifetime parole ... but he was later busted for drug dealing again, and spent another 7 years behind bars before being released in 1991. Frank is survived by his 7 children. He was 88. . . . R.I.P. --- |
