Yeah I've been going once or twice a month this year and have generally had a really good time. There's an AMC nearby and they do $5 Tuesdays which I've been taking advantage of.

After reading the article in the previous thread, it's basically what I expected. It still makes me sad.

And not just for the victims. Alec had parents and friends, and they had to watch their son or friend continually harm himself and others.

Mental illness is the worst.

I think his victims knew that, too, and why it was so difficult to escape or find someone to help him. How do you draw that line between someone who is suffering from a disease and someone who is bad and needs to be avoided? Warned against?

I think the answer is that we need to be able to hold both ideas at the same time. If someone is sick with the plague, you should empathize and direct them towards help, but you also need to stay away for your own health. I think his victims just didn't realize this until it was too late.

Imagine if he had come clean publicly in 2006. Could he have recovered mentally, and eventually socially? Is that the goal? I don't know

and basically feel the same way. In a sense he was a victim of his own illness. It's just sad for everybody. Also, his sister said he had improved while that article implies otherwise, so I dunno. From the sister's post it seemed like, "my brother did some messed up stuff a while ago, then got better, but his past came to light and he's dead now". If he was still treating others the way he treated Scott, then he needed to be called out. But if he had truly gotten help and was doing better, the whole thing's extra tragic.

You can make a distinction between a mass sex-trafficker or a serial rapist, and a shitty + controlling boyfriend. Epstein and Cosby were monsters who at no point attempted to reform themselves or show remorse. What Holowka did was fucked up but not nearly on that level, and according to his sister he was recently trying to change, and was improving.

An artist I respect a lot pointed out that people get a dopamine kick from just going after people, regardless of the facts or the situation - I think that's where we're at now.

She didn't need to air it out publicly at all - or at least not right now - if you believe the sister's post, that he has truly been working on bettering himself, AND Zoe's own statement that he was struggling mentally. Certainly this could have been resolved without someone being pushed to suicide, because their career and social life are over.

Based on what I've read about her, and even just from reading her actual post about Alec, I think it's very possible or even likely that she had a goal in mind which was to get him blacklisted from the gaming industry. Seeing as that was his livelihood, and that, as Zoe even states, he "wasn't doing well", I would say that the fallout from her airing of dirty laundry indirectly lead to his death, yes. I understand that he's not innocent in all of this, but it just seems like entirely the wrong way to handle it, when you know full well you're rounding up the internet mob.

That said, I do agree with Corrik that a large part of OP's post does seem to be against "mob culture", and against harassers. I feel we can probably all agree that some of the biggest "villains" in any of this are the people who went out of their way to harass anyone involved in this.

Ultimately, the OP seems quite upset about what happened, and I think his feelings are valid. He is upset that someone who was clearly not 100% all bad was driven to suicide, and I think that's a sad situation.

There is a reason to bring up Zoe when she provided the spark. She seemed to know the timing was bad, that he wasn't doing well, but that didn't faze her. So yes I do have an issue with both her and "cancel" culture. I think she knows what she's doing and wants to play the 'innocent victim' to such an extent that it should raise some eyebrows. There's a very good chance she knows the power she has in the gaming world and relishes the chance to wield it.

She said all this less than a week ago, about events that happened years ago. I did not see it confirmed that it was a suicide, but it's about 99.9% likely that was the case since his sister alluded to him seeking help via "crisis services" just before dying.

Internet mob justice is getting way out of hand. This guy, according to his sister, was abused himself and had substantial mental health issues. I'm not claiming to know the validity of the accusations (even his sister admits he "caused harm"), but to go after him years after the alleged events took place, when you haven't been getting as much attention recently, seems really shady.

Reading Quinn's account, yeah it doesn't seem like he was that great a guy, but there's something really wrong when people think him killing himself is an acceptable resolution to the problem.

If it's a legal matter, then make it a legal matter. Why do that I guess, though, when you can destroy the guy's career instantly on Twitter.

This'll probably get locked or removed but I find the whole thing pretty upsetting.

Unless you care about the competitive scene, the series hasn't evolved much at all since its inception. Outside of general quality-of-life changes there's mostly just been the addition of gimmicks no one really cares about like double battles or Mega forms. With that in mind, you could vote for virtually any generation and I wouldn't bat an eye.

well it can also be to do with simplicity of the game design/mechanics. Even though the AI is broken, I prefer the simplicity of gen 1 - even starting in gen 2 things start to get a little bloated (berries, eggs, genders, special divided into 2 stats).
