You are saying "these people know it is racist, and use this as an excuse to hand wave away what he says" and I am saying "these people don't know it is racist, and use this same evidence as support for their argument that he isn't". Like I think we both see the same things (I am also involved in groups like that for the same reason), but at least in my experience they actually do not believe what he is saying/doing is racist. They think racism is worse against whites, that we're just purposefully exaggerating for political points, that there aren't any sort of real, systemic racial problems in this country. I'm not sure which is worse, but the latter is definitely at least prevalent enough that I have noticed a pattern. --- Moops? "I thought you were making up diseases? I know it is still so far out but I can't stop checking this every day. Good: Sanders UP 6 in New Hampshire. I can't remember the last time I saw him up in a poll so even a single state poll is awesome. Particularly since it is so early in the primary cycle. Warren down only 3 in a general election poll (Biden 23, Warren 20, Sanders 16). Bad: Most other general polls have Biden up in the 15 point or so range. I'd need more polls like the Warren -3 one to be confident in any sort of trend Biden up 20 in SC. I have this worry that even if Bernie/Warren manage to pull out some states in the northeast or coasts that Biden just completely dominates the southern/Appalachian states and he still wins the nomination. Other: Gabbard now has two polls with her polling at 2 and Marriane Williamson somehow has one poll with her at two now too. Bullock also has two with him at 2 which sucks because I need him to drop out like today and run for that Montana senate seat. The testing for these drugs is something along the lines of "hey look this did this in this cell line and it shows promise for something down the line". That is where government funding goes primarily to in the US. You'll hear news stories of these things as "THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH IN TACKLING DISEASE X" from CNN and then you'll likely hear nothing else. This is where almost all of government funding goes into at the moment. A very important step, but relatively cheap in comparison. Because that is where the pharmaceutical companies come in. And they have to go through multiple phases of the clinical trials. I don't remember all of them off the top of my head, but it is like 1. efficacy in animals 2. efficacy in humans 3. safety in humans 4. long term safety in humans. Something along those lines. And tons of these things just fail and you get no money back. Again, this isn't like a car. You make a bad car, you sell a bit of the car and recoup some nominal cash. A "bad" drug gets studied for six years and it could fail at that last step and suddenly you've just "wasted" a ton of money (again, not that the drug is bad or that the money is wasted, but from an investor standpoint it is). Currently industry founds anywhere from 6-10 times more clinical trails than the government because of how absurdly expensive this is. His strength might seem tenuous, but it has been holding very steady even through a very weak debate performance and a fairly average debate performance. People may also start coalescing around him when things seem inevitable, because strangely enough he is almost every candidate's voters second or third pick. What you would really need is Warren/Sanders or Sanders/Warren combining their powers somehow and ideally before the first primary even starts.
