His story is "alright" but holy shit his concocting gets so broken late game when you can give infinite BP to everyone on your team. Yeah you really need to find someone with a similar playstyle to you. When I played with my girl we had an agreement that we'd play the entire day, and if someone went to sleep early then they'd just have to wait until the other person was done. Usually though we'd go to bed around the same time so it wasn't much of a problem But if your time is about 20 seconds per day then yeah it'd be real boring playing with someone who doesn't like to do that. Don't remember specifics but I didn't really like the story/gameplay and for an rpg the game is super short (took about 20 hours to beat).
