It's definitely capitalizing on reactionary outrage. I wondered why people continue to discuss it, because the discussion never evolves, but that's it.

SNL has a lot of misses, and can be very overrated. However, I get that it's hard to write and perform a new live show every week.

A report prepared by a former federal judge found the Chicago Police Departments stop and frisk practices disproportionately target black pedestrians.

Former U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys found about 70% of all pedestrian stops are conducted on African-Americans in Chicago. The report notes African Americans make up only 33% of the citys population.

Sounds like sloppy reasoning. Just because they make up a third of the population doesn't mean they commit a third of the crime. If non-black residents commit less than 30% of the crime but make up 30% of the stops, then they're the ones who are being unfairly targeted.

For the sake of argument, let's assume that white and black people possess illegal drugs at equal rates. If you stop and frisk black people at a higher rate, then it should come as no surprise that statistics will reveal that they're "committing crime" at a higher rate.

The question is, what are the statistics actually revealing? Are they revealing police bias in targeting specific populations, the actual rate of crime being committed, or some combination of both? Because if you're unfairly targeting a particular population, then the crime statistics (arrests, convictions etc.) will "prove" that that population is committing crime at a higher rate, thereby reinforce the prejudice that had a causal role in the initial inflated statistic.

I didn't hate Rises, but I remember thinking "If Nolan can't do better than this, then this is a good place to stop."

Im ranting, hard:

Horrible Bane
Horrible cat woman

You know what, instead of going into a detailed rant ill just say i had major issues with most everything in the movie. How can the third be so crap next to such solid 1st and 2nd?

Anne Hathaway wasn't as memorable as Michelle Pfeiffer, but I thought that she and Tom Hardy (while not carbon copies of their characters from the comics) were more or less fine to good.

I didn't care for the return of the League of Shadows, as they were never really all that interesting to begin with. I also wasn't a fan of giving Talia Bane's origin. Also, anyone who's familiar with the Batman mythos could see that Miranda Tate was Talia.

Oh also the CG in the film looked awful.

The only good CG was the de-aging of Nick Fury and every time CM removed her CG helmet, her hair rolled down. Those were impressive to me.

Coulson's de-aging was terrible and the action flights with CM felt like a video game cinematic.

I thought that Coulson's de-aging was good. His problem was that there was no real reason he had to be in the movie at all. Nothing strengthened our relationship to his character or his relationship to the other characters. His appearance was wasted as just a cameo.

We're in an era where strong female heroes aren't as uncommon as the marketing behind CM implied.

Which earth have you been living on?

It depends on the context. They're not uncommon as characters that exist in genre fiction. They are uncommon as leads/sole protagonists in big-budget films.

I liked her more in Avengers: Endgame than I did in her own movie. Her transition from robot with a temper to bland guardian was unengaging. I do think that she can be engaging, it just depends on the script, which is a monumental thing.

Of course there will be metric tons of complaining about this, but really, given how totally unequal our education system is, I don't think it's bad to put someone's social class and hardship into consideration when evaluating their candidacy to higher education.

Now, whether that should literally be quantified as points on the SAT is a different thing. In principle, but perhaps not in execution, I'm in favor of this.

Have they ever cast someone (I guess, let's say since '89) as Batman that doesn't seem like somewhat of an odd or wildcard choice? I didn't know Christian Bale before he was cast as Batman. Kilmer and Clooney weren't that odd, I guess. Affleck and Pattinson just aren't my cup of tea. Batman has been oversaturated as of late, though.
