I don't get how this really helps if you have a busy schedule. Breaking up the conventional day twice (and IIRC the similarly-touted Ubermensch does this even more) doesn't sound super convenient to me. Plus what are you really gonna get done in the middle of the night, the hours you're gaining, that's all that important? It's not a good time to go outside, businesses are closed, and even if you have a remote job, you'd be lucky if they were actually trusting enough to let you work during odd hours.

These things always sound dumb to me because I can rarely even fall asleep in 30 minutes, so how am I supposed to sleep for just 30? When I have a lack of sleep it's rarely a lack of effort, it's lack of literal physical/mental ability to do so. The extra 6 hours each day I guess would be nice but honestly not even remotely worth the effort and high probability of failure and schedule inconvenience. I'm still trying to crack normal sleep here.

Also isn't there a lack of scientific evidence to these things being beneficial/healthy?

You do come off as pretty arrogant. You might want to try at least finding a job in software first so you can have something to brag about, otherwise it's all just theoretical skill... in more than one sense of the word. Both that you're focused a little heavy on theory, and that you "theoretically" know things but probably aren't applying them as rigorously in practice as you think you are.

I just hope that when you are talking to people for jobs you don't act like you do in this topic, you sound neither all that skilled in nuances nor like an enjoyable person to work with. The stuff you like to get into might be nice for their coding tests and "trick" interview questions but those are honestly a pretty small component of the process in my experience. You still have to get through all the behavioral interview stuff, if you can even get an interview in the first place.

I feel like Paper Mario had more secrets purely quantitatively with the badges and star pieces, but I don't know. Of course there isn't stuff on the level of Culex, but is that really a big part of what makes one game better than the other?

Man, I was thinking of gameplay just in terms of combat, but I forgot about all the horrid isometric platforming in SMRPG. I think the platforming/exploration is one area where Paper Mario definitely shits on SMRPG, but for most other stuff... eh, I can see why people might go either way.

I think SMRPG tries too hard to be both an accessible, casual RPG as well as a more "serious" one for seasoned RPG players. As a result, it's decent overall, but not really great at being either. The whole thing is kind of goofy to me and as someone said, it's like this weird hybrid FF-type world.

Paper Mario instead just really runs with the casual RPG angle and I think it's a lot better because of it. Even the arguably more "boring" combat is novel in its simplicity. The world is way more appropriate and truly feels like Mario.

The price of games has stayed ridiculously low compared to inflation, if anything they should be like $80 or $90. The games that actually do come out at $60 don't even stay there for very long anymore (except Nintendo). You can get quality games that begin at less than full price, which were basically non-existent in console gaming before indies became a big thing.

Yeah there are shitty practices like pay-to-win, lootboxes, etc., but overall I think it's still pretty much the best time to be a gamer. If not now, then maybe last gen--there were fewer predatory practices, but I think also fewer indies and such to fill the gap.

I remember having the map, it shows you how to get to the first three dungeons or something like that.

That isn't really the issue though imo, it's one of the weakest games in the series for many other reasons

You sound kind of like you're too fixated on accumulating deep theoretical knowledge instead of just applying bits and pieces practically and having fun with it. What do you really gain by watching 40 hours of videos? If it's to tell prospective employers, trust me, they aren't impressed by stuff like "Yeah I've done some tutorials" or "I watched a few videos".

And sure, you expressed that you want to write programs to learn it inside out, but what do these programs look like? Like I'm having a hard time imagining that this would resemble a "realistic" functioning program, it's rare that some practical application demands all the techniques in the book. I'm picturing just a bunch of strange use cases kind of thrown together. An important part of the knowledge base for a software engineer is knowing when and why to use certain techniques; just throwing them into an example program shortly after you learned them doesn't really reinforce that all that well.

You say you could write a C# interpreter, but have you actually attempted to write one? Would it be the level of quality you'd want to show off? Maybe some people would find that impressive, but the more complicated your projects are, the higher you're setting your standard and opening them up for higher scrutiny. I'm of the mindset that a simple program made really well is better than a complicated one made haphazardly (obviously there's a certain minimum complexity that still needs to be met).

Haven't you been programming for well over four years at this point? If you had spent those four years in college you probably would've come away with a nice software job instead.

Yeah there is a lot of filler in college, and from a purely pragmatic standpoint it's not that useful, but degrees still hold value. This topic comes off as pretty bitter. You realize that, if it's supposedly so easy to master software through these tutorials, there are millions of others out there thinking the same thing? Self-teaching is great if you can show off something really cool but good luck trying to get by just telling people you have no formal education and just watched a few videos.

Zelda II is fun, I like it better than the first game.

The DS games are weak but I don't really pin that entirely on the controls (well, except the dreadful flute stuff in Spirit Tracks). They just felt kind of "off" in general.

I'm surprised OoT isn't winning the poll.

It's a hard choice, but the first game isn't really an option. OoT has always been the sentimental favorite for me, because nothing really compares to playing that for the first time. But BotW is as close as that can come playing a new game as an adult, plus it's just so much better objectively.

a dungeon that requires all of your might in combat, or several specialized tools for solving puzzles, all things that the character you converge with is clearly lacking.

Zelda games do this pretty often for example. Though it's kind of funny in OoT because it's a plot device where certain characters say they need a certain thing to get deeper in the temple, but how they got there to begin with makes no sense.

I don't know how much I spend on alcohol but that's probably a big part of it. I mean I only drink like a six pack a week plus one or two going out beers, but that's probably an easy $50 a month.

What other people do is possibly a decent benchmark though. For me the goal is beyond just being within my income, because I could still afford to spend more on it. But it doesn't hurt to cut that figure down and it's nice to hear what some people consider manageable.

I mean, I'm not gonna live off ramen or anything, but I know I have cheaper options out there that aren't terrible.

I'm just asking what an average person with a stable income should budget for, you're overthinking it. I don't understand what purpose it would even serve to give all those qualifiers, it would be too easy to make it sound like a good budget when it's measured against an existing standard.

I get being against abortion but this topic is absurd and sexist. You mock it being a women's health issue but the way you're acting kind of just demonstrates why it's viewed as such:

- The dumb narrative that it's some fun, easy and attractive option for women, why is this a thing? It's really the complete opposite.
- Putting rape and incest in quotes. Okay, I get that some dudes don't understand the concept of legal consent, but incest? You can prove that with hard evidence dude... oh wait I forgot to mention a bunch of other scare quotes
- The talk of women being inconvenienced. Sure sounds like you're either saying that it should just be the woman's responsibility to care for the child, or that you don't think the fathers ever want an abortion too. Neither one is good.

Some people would rather live as cheap as possible to work to their dream home but I'm kinda at the age where I don't want to put up with that. Plus the housing market is so uncertain that I'd rather just enjoy what I can now. I'd still be banking some savings regardless
