You were monsters, but you were like rebel monsters. I know I played it on a PS2 but it could have been a PSX game because backwards compatibility used to be a thing. I think you only had 4 party members, the main character who was like super anime badass, a purple tsundere chick, the big axe lad who was like a soldier or something, and another mage/healer monster (?). The game had the main battles but also like a challenge mode that it made a big deal about but was easy as hell if you knew how to play strategy games.

Maybe fans of this genre can help me remember a game I played for PSX or PS2 back in the day and have never been able to find again. You play like monster people, one of whom is a purple chick and another is a big lad who can throw an explosive axe. It's a series, but I only played the 1. It's a grid based tactics game, and it's easy AF until you get to the final boss, who has an attack that hits everybody at once and fucking wrecks you. It's like dark or evil elemental, or something like that. I never beat it because I was able to get to the final boss at a lower level where his attack OHKOs most of my units, and I really want to go back and play it again.

I realize that isn't a lot to go on, but I was doing a lot of illicit substances at the time so that's all I've got. Ooh, when an enemy hit the purple chick she'd growl and say "Hit Harder" which always struck me as odd, like maybe she was getting off on it?

It's really not, ignore them. Rayslayer is mad overrated. It's just a Varmint Rifle with a black paintjob and a fancy scope. It has bonus crit damage, but that's only relevant if you're getting crits. The enemies in the cave will kill you, too.

Damn with this advice I should restart my file. I'm not very far in plus I haven't played it in so long I've forgotten what I need to do

New Vegas isn't anywhere near as bad as it's predecessors and other 90s CRPGs, but there are still definitely stronger ways to play. You can screw up your character, unlike in Fallout 3 and stuff. It's not like Fallout 1 where if you make decisions without knowing what you're doing you end up with a character completely unable to win, though.

Elaborate. Are you referring to the triangles at the bottom?

Every one of those triangles is a map location. They pop up when you're a certain distance away, but that's the only hint you get. They don't get bigger the closer you get or anything.

Modding weapons is cool, but not the endgame. Every weapon has a unique variant that is better than even the fully modded regular. Some weapons have multiple uniques. Those are what you want, eventually. For now if you can mod a weapon you're using, cool.

Y' mean like how I got murdered to death by Super Mutants while heading southward?

New Vegas can do that. There are pockets of really powerful enemies just chilling at various points. It probably wouldn't have helped much there because of the mountains, but it's a good habit to just hit the VATS button when you're out exploring. Any visible enemy, no matter how far, will be zoomed in on so you know what's coming. It can really save your life to see tough enemies before they see you so you can turn around.

Certain junk items are useful to make stuff at crafting benches, most aren't. Duct Tape, Wonderglue, Scrap Metal, Scrap Electrics, and a Wrench are the most important because they make Weapon Repair Kits with 50 repair. You can make Doctor Bags, too, but it's with rarer stuff and they are in First Aid Boxes and purchasable.

Scrap Metal is also used to make custom ammunition, which is one of the reasons guns are fun. Everything else you mostly get by breaking down regular rounds. This is a good reason to not sell ammo unless you really need the money. There's a perk that unlocks almost all of the custom ammo "recipes", but I forget what's it's called. Vigilant Recycler is the one for making custom energy weapon ammo.

Sort of. My point was that sidequests aren't like "go collect 15 bear asses". It's more "yo help me with this thanks" kinda deal. There's always usually some sort of actual story.

Sounds like the writers actually cared.

I like my quests to have meaning.

MasterGakke posted...
Quests can earn you reputation with factions, yeah. But really they're the main source of XP for your character. That's another reason to follow the main quest for a while, it's the best source of XP for you to gain some levels, which gives you perks, skill points, and XP.

Can I play after I beat the main quest?

No, the game ends with the main quest. But with all the stuff in the game and the DLCs you'll hit the level cap before that point so it doesn't matter. The game is good about warning you when you're crossing points of no return, so don't worry.
