I've been using the Japan from Zero books/YouTube videos to learn. I'm on the second book right now. It's pretty slow paced, but I feel like things are explained well and I'm learning a lot. Might switch over to Genki after this book though, I dunno.

Additionally, I recently started following this guide for learning kanji: https://nihongoshark.com/learn-kanji/ . They're a pain in the ass but I look forward to getting them out of the way. Unfortunately things are gonna slow down soon once this next semester starts back up.

I like "Let's Learn Japanese from Small Talk". Although I don't understand 90% of what's said, I think it's good listening practice for natural conversations.

that boss was kind of wonky, like he'd be about to do an attack and his model would rotate 90 at the last second so that the attack would hit you iirc. So it felt more like timing the dodge than the positioning because of that.

I played on Vita and enjoyed it despite the inferior ending. A plus for the Vita version is that you can jump to certain points like in VLR so you can get the different endings without starting from the beginning each time.

I'm actually playing through ZTD right now so I'll probably get around to AI afterwards. Or I might just give up on ZTD entirely because I'm like 6 hours in and it hasn't hooked me at all unlike the previous 2 games. Glad that AI has seemingly turned out much better.

i am using http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/ in tandem. whenever i reach a new section in duolingo and i don't know the grammar, i read and try to find it on the grammar guide. yeah, duolingo suck ass at grammar, and other sources helps alot. for example, the conjugations makes so much sense if you know the rules. duolingo just throw it at you without explaining the contexts.

it's great to learn grammar though, while the guide to japanese is kinda hard to learn kanji with, since when they mention a kanji, they usually dont write the translation / kana anymore in the next chapters so it is easy to forget

I've heard good things about Tae Kim, I should probably start using it myself lol

Yeah, i am totally burned out lol, i will keep learning, but i will stay from duolingo for a while. Maybe i will watch more misa videos, concentrate on finding new sources.

The repetitive nature of duolingo can be useful i admit, and it does hammer the lessons into my head, buf damn i need a break. Just said goodbye to my 40+ days streak

Yeah I like mixing up sources from time to time to keep things a bit fresh. Have you been using a source for grammar? Duolingo is useful, but really lacking in that department in my experience.

i have more important priority than travelling atm, but i really want to go to osaka and hokkaido. not sure about tokyo since i am indifferent to urban locale.

I can relate, although I'd probably still feel compelled to check out Tokyo if I'd already come all the way to Japan. At the very least I'm sure there's some tasty ass food there. But Kyoto seems the most appealing to me atm, I love the scenery and temples and stuff.

I'm impressed with how well RTK has worked for me so far, I've already "learned" over 300 kanji in just 2 weeks. I've been playing Judgment and it's cool to recognize the kanji for "cheap" on store signs, and things like "extinguish fire untenstil" on a fire extinguisher. I'll probably stick with this method.

Some of my levels in the original were taken offline by Nintendo themselves for lack of activity or something, and they were unable to be reuploaded whoch was frustrating. Hoping they're not pulling thay again too but this does not bode well.

I find somw kanji easier than katakana.

Hiragana is ezpc.

Katakana is fucking hard because everything looka the same

Would make more sense if a new nintendo is called scarlet since they are plastering this red colour all over their adverts. And is the acutal background for their switch logo.
