Nope.

In fact, America needs at least four.

Careful what you wish for. We have that many here in Australia (Labor, Liberals, Nationals, and Greens), and it is a total fluster cuck.

I notice that Australia is not usually cited as a place where the populace is incredibly polarized though.

Its just where all of nature wants to KILL YOU. Oh, right, and being the country mocked for expecting emus to actually use military tactics instead of just running around and hiding and causing armed forces to have such a hard time tracking and hunting them down that it earned the nation the laughingstock title of "being those guys who lost a war against EMUS". If its any consolation though, you guys do have one of the most epic bandits in history.

I would rather have politics that are a complete joke, instead of politics that are "only" mostly a joke but also more dangerous than every poisonous species down under combined. Count yourselves lucky. Oh, and we are really, really sorry about that toad incident. Please don't unleash kangaroos on us.

Pokemon is a good go-to answer. Especially since many people do seem to have a decent pokemon or two (especially if you take the anime into consideration). But yeah, honestly, you kinda DO need to count the anime, or at least ignore the ridiculous pokedex descriptions of some of them, or else it starts to be scary.

Other than that, some of the Atelier games would be a fairly nice place to live.

I suspect most of the industry is fairly neutral about rental stores. The renters themselves still buy games after all, and for any company that has DLC it can mean that more people might get at least some of the DLC while they have it rented.

Players who like a game they rent may also buy a game they otherwise wouldn't have. Which either would be from the renter (i.e. Gamefly's keep, and if new potentially encouraging the renter to get more copies), or digitally (in which case its a new copy being bought by the player).

Its mostly the physical rental store (as in, the store itself being a physical place) that is really dying out though. GameFly seems to be doing fairly well.

Global warming (or to put it better, Climate Change, since its the AVERAGE temperature of the world's surface that is increasing, and not all locations will experience it the same) is a real thing, and no really, we need to do something about it.

Option 1 is, of course, to make some drastic changes to how we do things, so that we can stop the further increases of heat retention gasses in the atmosphere (and ideally, start bringing them down). It may not be much longer before we reach the point where this cannot be done unless we go into wartime economy mode so that governments can throw world war levels of resources at the problem.

Option 2 is to start properly preparing for it. Start building new levees, relocating or raising up coastal areas, and otherwise get going on steps that will make it so we can LET the world get 2 more meters of seawater and not worry about it. But this is ALSO a thing we need to START DOING NOW if we want to avoid the problem.

Yes, people mostly just talk about option 1 because it is the option that is nicer sounding, as it ties in nicely to saving rare animals and living in harmony with the planet. But option 2, even if it is a bit more "selfish" from a species standpoint, is still something that people need to start seriously talking about and doing. Otherwise, we will continue to see disaster after disaster where increasing storm strengths or new storm paths continue to cost trillions of dollars to cities on the coasts, to which about the only jobs that WON'T suffer would be construction, repair, and demolition companies.

The most practical course of action would really be a mix of the two for now anyway. Take steps so that we can at least limit the climate change from being too terribly extreme, and revamp our infrastructure, buildings, and coastal region development to be able to handle the stuff that will still happen.

Ok. So first... Um, lets make this a list.

0. Respect the mod loader. And mod load order. ESPECIALLY if you attempt to use mods that are incompatible, or which are NORMALLY incompatible but are compatible with a third mod installed that fixes said incompatibility.

1. Find the latest of the unofficial patch mods that just fix, well, BUGS. Last I checked, a good number of mods actually REQUIRE these unofficial patches.

2. You want to search around a little on the best graphical mods that don't change the game at all. By best, I mean look at the screenshots and go with what you think is best. Try to avoid conflicts, but don't be afraid to actually experiment with ones that supposedly DO conflict. You might get some pretty cool plant life out of them (especially with ones that modify the grass and non-specific plant life). Just make an early game save in the middle of the field outside Whitehall or whatever its called, and play around with some of them using a mod-loader of some sort, until you get it looking like how YOU want it to look like.

3. Now you can get to the part where you actually mod the game mechanics! I'm sure people in this topic have suggested some. Feel free to mix and match any that are not outright incompatible (though some such ones do have side-mods that may make them compatible with each other).

4. Play the game. Mod it some more. Play the game. MOD IT MORE! Eventually, break the game. Maybe before or after the main story arc is done. But yeah, you will break it eventually with your excessive mods.

5. Uninstall everything but the core unofficial patches, and start the modding cycle again with a new game! Or maybe, just go for a small handful of really ridiculous mods and go for a quick story-only playthrough for amusement with some stupidity like having a minigun or something. I'm sure someone has made a minigun mod by now.

6. Eventually just say "whatever" and go with whatever mods make elves actually look beautiful, and just stare at your lovely elven character of whichever gender as they generally be fabulous and do things fabulously.

BECAUSE ELVES.

TopicInteresting facts about why the moon landing can't be faked
Sephiroth C Ryu

One of my favorite ones is actually quite simple.

At the time we did the moon landing, the cinematic technology that would have been required to fake the landing (without, well, making it quite clear to soviet and other scientists that it was faked) would actually have cost MORE to develop and perfect and use within the time frame they had, than the technology necessary for an ACTUAL mission to the moon.

Computers (or what we called "computers") back then couldn't really, well, be useful in faking stuff.

The computer they did manage to make for the Apollo space, incidentally, had 2k of ram, and managed about 1 Mhz in clock speed. It could perform about 40000 instructions per second.

I won't even bother bringing up smart phones. Those things are basically OP. Instead, lets bring up the Texas Instruments TI-83 Graphing calculator. Which is to say, the original. Not the +, or that newer model with backlighting and color.

The classic TI-83 calculator. Well, it has, um, 6Mhz, 32k of ram, and from my quick search I couldn't find any "instructions per second" value because people nowadays prefer to use Flops instead. Suffice to say its probably a lot better at those too though.

And the Apollo computer was actually an incredible leap forward in computing power at the time. They really did go all in on trying to advance and miniturize the limited computational technology of the time.

THis is a good short read if you are curious about someone talking about the under-apeciated computer of the Apollo probes.

But why not instead post Ice Cap Zone from Sonic, if it were proper Jazz?

Ok, fine. Have Ice Cap Zone too.

And I guess, an interpretation of what the updated version would sound like if it were in Mania (or at least, of what the first act version would be if Ice Cap were in Mania, since the first act's BGM is usually pretty similar to the original, with the second act being where it gets mixed up).

Not really. There's a world of difference between "I don't care about any of these things" and "These things are all objectively terrible and anyone who likes them is an idiot who should feel bad about themselves."

Like it or not, there are plenty of reasons why someone might not like handheld systems. And that even applies to the Switch, even if you want to try and say "No no, it's totally a console" just because you can dock it. Especially if someone has no real interest in Nintendo's first party titles.

If you do not like ANY handheld, then don't come into a topic about handhelds, yes?

That said, though I myself like them, I might still get along with such a person, because it MIGHT mean they at least also use their smart phone as mostly a PHONE, and not as their social media platform.

Then again...

At the time, the GBA SP model was pretty much the ultimate thing. First of their lit screens (even if not really "true" backlighting just yet), first time they used a nice clamshell design to protect itself with, and other nice features including the backwards compatibility. Which nowadays, makes it a good pair with a 3DS since that one can handle the BC for the DS era.

At the time, the DS was pretty good too though. I actually liked the original "tank" model for that one, honestly. The less boxy shape actually made it feel better in the hands, even if it was less compact.

Heck. If the New XL model of the 3DS happened to also have the shape of the tank-DS (or phat, if we go by this poll?), then it would honestly be epic. For me, anyway.

At the other end though? You still really have to hand it to the original Gameboy. That thing maintained its relevance for a remarkably long time, all things considered. Also, there are all the legends about how durable the thing is. Even if it does require normal batteries (you can use rechargable AAs of course these days but still).

The thumbnail says enough (or shows enough at least).

Yeah. Look, if you want to market catgirls, that is fine. Just please market, you know, the ANIME kind of catgirl. Ones that are basically just a cute human girl, except that hair is always covering where their ears would be if they were human, and oh yes. They also happen to have cat ears sticking out of their head (the color of the hair on which is likely the same color as the rest of their hair). And a cat tail out their bum (again, likely same color hair as the rest of their hair). They may have sharp nails or something too sometimes, but that's optional (and really only relevant anyway if its a series with fights in it).

"catgirls" like the one in that thumbnail are why people who like anime catgirls can't ever seem to talk about them without getting called furries. No. That thumbnail may well count as furry, but a "PROPER" catgirl is NOT.

Yeah, from some shop-keeper type NPC, in a specific city, right?

Great. I can do whatever in the endgame. The time when I don't really care anything about stuff except for the elite-whoever, multi-player, and whatever legendary god pokemon is in the entry in question.

4 moves is fine if that is merely how many they can have "equipped" at a time. But its stupid to forget them. Especially seeing as these guys are apparently incredibly smart after all. And many moves are literally things they are supposed to do by instinct anyway, or variations on something they can usually do by default. Keep it to 4 moves equipped per battle. Allow us to change what moves are equipped ANY DAMN TIME WE WANT.

What, a new player 10-20 levels into the game wants to go back and play around with seeing if that old tail whip attack is actually worthwhile for one battle? Let them open a menu, swap out a move for that old attack, all while they are literally standing still in the middle of a field of grass in the middle of a route between cities. Yeah, let them. 4 moves made sense back in the day because yes, an RPG type thing, on the gameboy. Things have advanced. The 4 moves alone is good because it helps promote certain degrees of competition in the multi community. But why make it hard for players to actually experiment without at the least getting the endgame Fly HM that lets them go wherever whenever? Why make them pretty much have to go and look up online for which moves are actually good if you keep them around until you get the complementary move?

So no, Taily Po. You do NOT have that already.

Yes, it wasn't an issue in certain games where the story mode was easy as hell. But that itself is just another laziness.

Skyrim (Switch) has been beaten and it only took me around 250 hours

How do you define "beat"? Main questline? Main questline + civil war? Main/civil war/all faction questlines? Getting every achievement? Does DLC count?

Personally, I would go with "beat at least one major storyline arc you haven't before, and then keep continuing until you finally break the game with your incessant modding." And to do this at least twice (if one of the storylines is not the main questline, then at the very least watch it through via playthrough too).

But yeah. PC player. We have the necessary tools, such as fanmade patches for fixing all the bugs, to make it much better. Which, naturally, means we then do that, and then afterward just add a bunch of other interesting mods for changing werewolves or vampires to be more fun, messing with the skill system to be better, allowing us to see 20 different, much more impressive looking flowers springing from the meadows (sometimes even via multiple mods despite their creators explicitly saying that it shouldn't work, but hey it still does for some reason).

And of course, always commenting on that weirdness where, there are a handful of places in the game like looking at a stone wall near some waterfall by the first rune stone thing you are likely to encounter, where you can run the REST of the game at 60 FPS, but it drops to 2-3 FPS in that area as long as you stare at that wall for some reason, because even all the mods in the world cannot fix OR break that worse somehow.

they aren't adding every Pokemon to the games because it's too much work to create new 3d models, despite the fact that the Pokemon they are adding are just imported models from the current 3ds games.

Ah, that thing.

Yeah, they have to make some new models for the actual new mons.

But yes. I don't care if there are a thousand of the things now. They should be wealthy enough by now to at least make the necessary modded models for their new attempt at a replacement for the Mega system.

Otherwise, DON'T DO IT. Seriously. Of all the ways they try to reboot it, they go with that, yes? And then decide, oh yeah, lets not bother with the older pokemon that are not in the current gen game itself. Its not like there are other ways we could make an attempt to innovate, right?

Its not like we could, oh, maybe make the battle animations more interesting? Like, just make some movement animations so that we get even a somewhat repetetive sequence of movements accompanying moves that at least sometimes look like something as decent as you'd see in the first anime? Not like they could actually try and make a really proper modern RPG worldscape either, right? Not like they could just finally fix their damn "4 moves only" system by at least changing it to "you can only EQUIP 4 moves for any given battle, but you still remember the other moves to experiment with at your leisure, or can swap any learned move out as you see fit. Oh, and allow HM moves out of battle as long as you have the HM itself and at least one pokemon with it, since that is ALWAYS annoying to deal with outside of the one or two that actually are also good combat moves."

Its quite... pathetic. That GameFreaks has somehow managed to innovate less than Dragon Quest. A series which literally makes it it's mission statement to remain a retro RPG. Is still more innovative in how much it improves things, than pokemon. Whose biggest innovation is a mobile phone app of questionable entertainment (but is at least substantially better at getting you to actually go out and move your legs to some extent).

lol Nintendo can fucking die after how they did Pokemon Sword and Shield.

They are an insult to the industry, hell any industry.

You have Nintendo confused with GameFreaks.

One of them is a decent company. The other is one of the laziest existing gaming companies who still have a major franchise. Despite being in a world where first person shooters (which are among the easiest games to throw together with "out of the box" components from your standard game engine) AND yearly sports games are a thing.

I don't even know what you are talking about with Sword and Shield. But I will gladly agree that it will likely be, at the least, lacking in its ability to be modern in any real way.

Dragon Quest at least has an excuse because it is both TRYING to be retro, and because the company that makes it also makes non-retro games (to the point where certain fantasy titles of theirs actually try TOO hard to be "new and different"). And thus, we can trust them when they say "no really, we could modernize the crap out of this game, but we actually do want this to be our retro series and will focus our attempts at creativity elsewhere."

If Nintendo has a fault with Pokemon, its that they are too willing to let GameFreaks do their own lazy thing. But you know, its probably better that they do that, in the end. After all, what is the alternative? Hmm, lets see, what are people's opinions of Bungie Entertainment and the Halo Franchise again these days? Oh, right. Yeah, better leave the occasional bad game company alone rather get too involved and than risk getting into a habit of over-managing and ruining the good ones too.

I should be clear that I was not trying to criticize you in my earlier post. I only mention this because you have replied to it in the manner that someone normally does to a person who is criticizing them.

Yes, there is the rare scene where some nut-case-level vegan (the sort you'd normally only see in a TV series and wouldn't expect to happen in real life) will outright waste food on purpose "just because they are vegan," (usually in response to some weird situation the TV series places them in), but those aren't really the sort of people that usually exist in real life for the most part.

Food wasting "vegans" are on par in rarity with those weird dingbats you occasionally hear about from people talking about reddit posts or something, where some total faith-in-humanity-draining king among idiots does something even a "normal idiot" would think is stupid.

So yeah. There is no reason whatsoever to just assume any person who comes out saying they are vegan to be THAT sort of person, any more than thinking someone who says they are <insert religion here> are the sort of people who think everyone of <any other religion here> are all going to hell no matter what and thus deserve to be treated badly.

My faith in humanity is not very high, I admit it. But I am not someone who just assumes someone professing to be of a group just automatically has all the worst traits of that group (mind you, THAT assumption does seem to be getting more and more common these days, so I suppose I can appreciate your quick defense).

Since you take pride in your veganism, I will offer you congratulations.

Yes, with modern food industry, it is a lot easier to stay vegan while also being healthy than it used to, but there still remains a degree of difficulty in giving up any tastes you particularly enjoy from the non-vegan side of things.

If you don't mind my asking, what is your style of veganism? Totally strict? Or are you allowed milk? And/or, are you allowed to use eggs, since those are never fertilized (thanks to birds being weird) and thus having no issues since they never actually take a potential life of a potential future chicken?

I am no vegan. But don't think I can't understand the thinking that leads to it.

I will say just this: In the event meat (or other food, but its especially strong with animal-based food) is in front of me on a table, I will feel obligated to ensure it is not wasted. For my belief is that it is far more disrespectful to life to throw something away when you could consume it, than it is to consume it. If something has lived to give you sustenance, then you at least owe it to them to not waste that existence.

Wasting food is something I dislike a good deal. But this applies to another level when it comes to wasting food from an animal. You can consider it in some veins similar to veganism, perhaps. While obviously different as well.

The short version: Don't. Waste. Food. There are rare times when, no really, you eventually must get rid of it without consuming it (like an old carton of open yogurt-milk you have left alone for a month or something), but my personal belief when it comes to food is that, no matter where the food comes from, you must respect it. And should an event occur that requires you to waste food, that you should not do so without at least regret.

So. Does he quack? Or does he roar?

Maybe he just has a very deep, loud quack.

Run. He is waddling this way.

He may be slow, but if he reaches you, you will be ripped in half.

...Ok, fine. Just walk if you are walking exactly away from him. Or speed-walk otherwise. He doesn't seem very fast at all with that waddling.

My phone doesn't seem to do this, so I can't help you. In the event you have an iphone though (I don't know if this is a thing iphones do or not), I'll just add this to the list of reasons not to ever get one or recommend them, though.

Incidentally, the reason you can easily multi-thread a CPU is because, once the program (usually a game in this case) is done figuring out what has happened during the last frame, what each and every pixel should be showing based on that information can be calculated independently of each other. The calculation for a pixel doesn't affect the one for the pixel next to it.

Given the nature of the TC's question, let's also just get something else out there:

You can't just arbitrarily multi-thread a single thread. A single "thread" is something that cannot proceed with the next calculation until the results of of the current calculation are done, as it likely relies on the current calculation.

If it doesn't, then this is a job for the programmers to split the thread into multiple ones if possible (it won't always be possible due to various things including blah blah blah risk of 2+ threads trying to change the same memory value at the same time, but yeah).

Naturally, if an OS or whatever else just decided to try and arbitrarily split threads across CPUs, it would create all those issues.

Short answer:

Multiple cores is basically a way to get around the problems with just making faster single core processors.

Namely, you get to a point where making it faster increases power use and heat generation, and also to where you can no longer miniturize it any further without running into fidelity issues simply due to quantum mechanics being annoying (whether in just the etching/creating process, or in the function of the chips themselves).

To put it another way though:

What you are asking in the topic title is literally what they already do for the most part. Just about any half-baked program made by people who don't know how to multi-thread will typically run on the first core only. This is more an OS issue from what I can tell. That said, a modern OS may be willing to toss a single-thread program to a different core.

If you want this "main core" to be faster, then build a computer with an unlocked CPU, and then overclock the first core higher than the others.

TopicChildren at the age of ELEVEN dating?

This topic title and OP are just another example among many where people ignore, forget, or retcon what being a kid is like.

We see it all the time among all sorts of people. As most people grow older, they lose touch with, lets just call it, their "childhood." I don't mean things like jobs or such either. I mean they literally just forget more and more about what its like to be young until they only see childhood as being a stupid little know-nothing brat who is ignorant of everything that actually matters.

This sort of concept is why many parents get so incredibly amazed every time their kids prove that they are NOT in fact idiots, and then proceed to self-support an opinion that their kid is the one rare one that is actually smart. No, that is not how it works. People like that are just confusing "dumb" with "naive." Very big difference between the two, actually.

That little rant aside, what was I actually going to comment on originally?

Ah, yes. In this case, its a little bit of the reverse. Someone looks at the word "dating" and just associates all the older versions of dating with it, and imaging two small children doing those things instead.

A better term would generally be "play dating" when talking about kids who do things that the kids themselves call "dating." After all, they are naive. They have witnessed and know that older people who are boy and girl may go out together for fun of some sort. But obviously, societal concerns and cultural whatnot mean that nothing else is told to them, so they naturally will put the 2 and 2 they DO have together to figure that a date involves doing things that are fun. And to insert things that THEY find fun into that interpretation. They will even see that their deduction is supported, as parents or other older people will typically tell them of their own dates while only mentioning the part of it that IS "normal fun," like meeting each other at a restaurant, and seeing a movie or going skating or whatever else they happened to do.

Ok, I'd best wind down or I'll just go back into rant mode again, but you get the point I am making about what I think of children. Children are not stupid. They are naive. And naive is a lot different from stupid.
