Topic | echo dots are on sale for $9 right now, ok? |
Voxwik 10/23/19 12:00:50 PM #6 | Aculo posted... Kyuubi4269 posted...They're free with everything nowadays, almost like companies gain more than their cost from their spyware. I didn't order it, and they blast advertisements for it all the time, including an annoying blue bar that persists. As such I don't use their music app. |
Topic | echo dots are on sale for $9 right now, ok? |
Voxwik 10/22/19 11:56:53 AM #4 | I'm so sick of them trying to shove their music subscription down my throat I one-starred their app for the constant obnoxious blue banners they bombard we with. It's almost as bad as iTunes nonsense, but at least you can buy music and download it right from the web site with Amazon. I resist what they are going for: the death of the single-payment license. |
Topic | Do you have anyone you used to play a game with and lost the connection to them? |
Voxwik 10/22/19 11:51:03 AM #9 | Plenty in EverQuest. Sadly when the guild and game is the only thing we have in common, once they aren't playing the game there's really nothing unifying anymore. There's one person I say hello to several times a year. We were in the same guild when I started playing in 2003. To this day we still join a channel ex-members of that guild joined, but we're in different guilds and seldom talk. I am so conscious of this facet of reality that I'm not sure if I have any true deep friendships, and I'm probably aromantic. That doesn't mean I don't value friendship, or that it's impossible I will ever be in a relationship, but I'm so conscious of the sheer number of people and the paper thin connections most of us have that I accept that as the reality of things. I've even been to the wedding of two of our guild members, and I hope I would keep in touch if they quit/left. It's the game that keeps everyone together for the most part though, even though real life relationships do develop for people. This does often make bad things happening in the world not move me as much, which I feel bad about, but in the end it's our actions that matter and how we deal with people day to day. So this doesn't depress me. I value the people I play with so many hours/days every year. I just know I won't keep touch with most of them if they leave the guild or the game sunsets. There is one person I played with 2003-2004 that to this day I keep in touch with, but we were in the same fandom unrelated to the game so that connection kept the communication going. |
Topic | so, this week in politics is going to be a god damned circus, ok? |
Voxwik 10/03/19 4:00:55 PM #11 | I laughed when he said people would stand by him if he shot someone on the street in broad daylight. I'm not laughing now. |

Voxwik 09/19/19 12:02:33 PM #6 | What do you propose, letting them die on the streets after they serve their time? Ridiculous. Obviously denying things like hunting/fishing licenses are understandable, but desire for revenge is evil under every circumstance. |
Topic | If you had to give up watching porn or playing games which do you choose? |
Voxwik 09/17/19 12:15:59 AM #14 | Smarkil posted... LinkPizza posted...Smarkil posted...I think being forced to not watch porn would probably ultimately be a good thing. In all seriousness, I don't buy that at all any more than I buy hairy palms or blindness mumbo jumbo. It's abundantly clear from decades of accessibility and well over a decade of insanely easy availability that it's nonsense that it's a problem. They even broadcast (or used to) over the air at night in some countries. The sky didn't fall. Obviously the comment about moderation applies to anything, but better off without I feel is just remnants of puritan propaganda. It's kind of amazing a topic like this can exist. It's silly, but I think it's a sign of how far progress has come. I don't want to get into the topic itself, other than to say it leaves way too many loopholes as others pointed out. |
Topic | I'm like the ice cream machine at McDonalds |
Voxwik 09/16/19 11:58:27 PM #15 | I didn't realize twist cones are gone. Also: http://taylorfreezersales.com/flavorburst-soft-serve/ I remember when McDonald's had that. It disturbs me that was likely before many were even born that are on these message boards... |
Topic | Has learning of the nature of an actor ever put you off of a show or movie? |
Voxwik 09/16/19 11:33:09 PM #4 | Lokarin posted... Nah - a product is a product, for my consumption. If the chef nightlights as a hitman that doesn't change the quality of the food. That's a tad extreme of an example, but I agree. There are some exceptions, such as if bad news directly relates to a show's content in particular, but I strongly oppose throwing away work all because of who made it when it has nothing to do with the work in particular. See: Bill Cosby, Phil Spector, and as a much less severe example Rosanne as examples. I love Bill Cosby and Rosanne's work, and I'm sure Phil Spector left his mark on a ton of things I'm familiar with. Note I'm not at all comparing Rosanne's racist comments with a rapist and murderer. She was just an example of someone affected by this kind of thing. |
Topic | The absolute ironic thing about Trump's ban on vaping is how it's just big govt. |
Voxwik 09/16/19 12:38:22 PM #53 | It's pretty simple with Republicans, they are for freedom except when they rile their base to be angry about something and direct all of their power to controlling every aspect of private life as it suits them. Democrats are guilty of this too, the main difference Democrats tend to over-reach in an overprotective manner and Republicans tend to do so out of indignant malice (see the Supreme Court kicking them out of the bedroom earlier this century, and attempts to ban same sex partners from hospital visitation in several states). Unfortunately for those of us that actually believe in freedom, the control freaks in both parties are likely on the same page for the same reasons in this case. How about they focus on how much LESS dangerous vaping is than traditional smoking? I don't do drugs and I don't smoke or vape, but seriously I can't stand control freakish nonsense. |
Topic | "Illegal immigrant" is now considered hate speech |
Voxwik 06/13/19 3:20:42 PM #54 | So is this just a lie to fuel the echo chambers.
Emphasis added. Don't let lunatic echo chamber nonsense brainwash you. |
Topic | FF7REmake is coming out March 2020 |
Voxwik 06/11/19 12:00:18 PM #43 | The poll is missing a "yes, but waiting" option. I plan to get it on PC, or failing that PS5 if it's backward compatible. I'm not sure why so many people seem to forget it said coming first to PS4, from the get go acknowledging ports. The "Square Enix is exclusive to Sony" myth is so bad I saw someone talking with complete ignorance to the fact Kingdom Hearts 3 is on the Xbox One. Obviously they know now. |
Topic | How is Trump's Approval rating still at 45%? |
Voxwik 03/29/19 12:14:40 PM #189 | Zeus posted... Zealotry makes one resistant to spotting hyberbole and humor although, in your defense, a lot of politicians say stupid s*** for a laugh that people pick on. If it was an isolated incident I'd brush it off, but completely ignoring anything anyone else says the man regularly calls the media the enemy of the people and regularly says "someone" should look at revoking licenses for shows critical of him. His Twitter alone should scare anyone. Just read through that, and only that, and how could anyone support him? He does not respect freedom, he has a habit of praising the "strength" and "word" of dictators, and he suggests any electoral outcome other than victory for himself must be fraudulent. He is attacking the very foundation of freedom in this country, and people better wake up and not stand by him if he makes a move for dictatorship if he fails an election. He has done untold damage to this country by spreading lies about voter fraud that time and again are unproven if not outright obviously false. This Twitter and only his Twitter, ignoring everything else entirely, shows he is insanely dangerous to have as President. |
Topic | How is Trump's Approval rating still at 45%? |
Voxwik 03/28/19 12:18:26 PM #171 | I mean, it's very possible he isn't guilty of collusion but he has dug himself into such a pathetic place it shouldn't matter when it comes to his political future. He's suggested it's okay people suffer if they "are Democrats." He's many times called the free press the "enemy of the people." He literally bragged he could shoot someone in broad daylight and his supporters would stick by him. He said he can't lose any legitimate election, and has done untold damage to our system of free elections by spreading (completely false) allegations of mass voter fraud that not even his supporters can show is real. He lies, incessantly, all the time about things minor and major. He has bragged about groping women. He has literally said "they" should look into pulling the licenses of programs that embarrass or contradict him. Multiple times, he's praised dictators for their "strength." He's commented that countries in South America "can't control their own people," as if that is what governments are supposed to do. The guy is a narcissistic would-be dictator without a shred of regret for being a malicious idiot. His political future should be over, just based on all of those things alone. For that matter, even if he didn't do anything the fact he has tried to act as if he should be above investigation should be alarming. The fact he thinks the justice department should be there to defend him is disturbing. Trump and his most rabid supporters are an existential threat to freedom in this country, and people need to get out and vote to stop them or we're in deep trouble. |

Voxwik 03/27/19 8:03:39 PM #165 | Yellow posted... This Russian shit was never going to happen. None of his policies favor Russia, he's much more obviously bought off by Saudi Arabia. I consider myself fairly liberal, and I think Cortez has some pie-in-the-sky nonsense going on. That said, Republicans constantly trying to kill protections for people with pre-existing conditions backfiring into "medicare for all" in the future would be hilarious. It is beyond ridiculous a ton of people that support Republicans actually think they are for protecting people with pre-exiting conditions. They have fought militantly to do the exact opposite. My Republican relatives said "too bad life sucks you can't make people pay for sick people," in response to that issue. It's sick. Man, we really need ranked-choice voting country-wide. That would make the polarized extremist politicians afraid. |

Voxwik 03/18/19 12:19:41 PM #153 | He said his supporters would stand by him if he shot someone in the middle of the street in daylight. Sadly, it looks like he was right. It's chilling he can just tell blatant lies incessantly and still get defended. He's very obviously at this point setting up for destroying our freedom. He calls the media the enemy of the people quite regularly. He's suggested there should be revenge for Saturday Night Live making fun of him. He's said "they should look into" taking away licenses from those that report news he doesn't like. He lies about having the biggest inauguration crowd in history. Most chilling, he claims there is no way he'd ever lose a legitimate election. This guy plans to stay in power, and he's setting up his supporters to turn on anyone that opposes him as the "enemy of the people." |
