Can you explain this? I voted the PT and I wouldn't mind having an actual debate or something.

I recognize the PT has issues with its scripting/direction but there is a consistent core to what it's trying to do & say that I think works well in spite of the issues, and it ends strongly enough that I'm willing to forgive or ar least kind of excuse problems I had with AotC/TPM.

I think the ST manages to fix the direction, bit script quality still varies (it is PT-tier in RoS, though) and it has no actual cohesion between the three titles. I don't even blame RJ for this because there were plenty of ideas for RoS that don't involve bringing Palpatine back.

it's hard to give advice since i dunno how much of him being fucked is related to his mother's blatant mistreatment. Like, I could buy he'd be a good kid but his life is so shit that he's a trainwreck & has no comprehension on how to handle it.

hopefully his mother is removed from the equation and he's given support/help

literally makes no sense, if you believe it you're dumb. this is regardless of the movie's quality

-the meter not moving from 86% isn't unusual at all. The issue is people are only now paying attention to the RT meter because they have a conspiracy, so they're noticing that it doesn't move much and don't understand that the initial sample size was accurate. It'd be unusual for it to move since positive/negative is dependent on rating the film in one of two ways (above or below 3.5) and there are already a massive quantity of reviews, making it harder to move.

-CinemaScore and PostTrak, polling firms that set out to gauge box office totals via audience reception, has the film at positive reception that jives with the the RT verified or unverified score

-It makes no sense that Disney would suddenly dispense paying off critics when they were accused by the same people of doing this for TLJ. TFA was their most successful film carrying both positive audience & critical reception. If Disney were trying to rig it they'd do both.

tl;dr; manchildren don't understand how RT works, have a salt-filled meltdown that the general public doesn't reflect their obnoxious bubble nobody outside of niche internet audiences care about

-It's certainly easier to influence one site than multiple critics

but the same people accusing disney of botting audience reviews are the ones who argued they regularly pay off critics, so you aren't even providing an explanation for a sudden shift in strategy

I'm no mathematician but at its current amount of 24841 total audience ratings, they would've needed at least 21363 to hit 86% and yet not even half of those left a review (6255)

because leaving a review takes more effort than clicking a like/dislike button

this applies the same exact way to Youtube videos. This isn't even weird, it's standard for all websites. Reddit (generally) has more upvotes on posts than comments, youtube has more likes/dislikes than comments, twitter (generally) has more likes than comments, etc.

it's like you've just noticed how reviews vs. comments on the internet worked

and people are claiming their unfavorable reviews are being deleted or outright not posted

are they providing evidence, or this this another "Disney bought tickets for Captain Marvel and I have anonymous internet sources that prove it" situation?

But you can't tell me there's that much of an influx of new ratings that haven't shifted the 86% whatsoever this entire time

because the standards are linear and defined as a score of 3.5 or higher. what happened is people who went and saw the film on day 1 were an adequate sample size that represented other people who later went & saw the film

when you back this with CinemaScore/PostTrak data it all lines up pretty well

Also this; it would be useful since it backs the 77% unverified score pretty well, depending on how %s translate to grades on CinemaScore. Point being, OP's insistence that this is some Disney botting tactic doesn't hold up under scrutiny, unless Disney is buying everybody off (except critics, for some reason, despite supposedly doing this in the past for TLJ.)

It apparently does seem to predict some Box Office related things and generally does well. Citing outliers doesn't make it unreliable because outliers happen all the time.

Of course, if that doesn't work, another firm exists that does similar work, and is noted as better & more reliable than CinemaScore by people who criticize CinemaScore. Let's see how Rise of Skywalker has done:

No matter how you cut it, industry firms seems to be gauging generally positive reception out of the movie, with the less reliable (or, alleged to be) CinemaScore trending lower and the more reliable PostTrak trending higher. It's possible this doesn't translate to BO success, since outliers exist as stated prior, but there are no indications that general audiences dislike this movie.

Cinemascore is garbage though, no idea why everyone uses it. Richard Jewell has an A, Joker has a B+.

One of them was a bomb and the other was the first rated R film to break a billion.

It doesn't mean anything to success or audience enjoyment really.

I don't think this gave much to fans.

That doesn't make it garbage. That means that the segment of the audience that went to see the movie either did or didn't enjoy it, on some varying level. It doesn't necessarily translate to box office success or failure because it's gauging the audiences who went to see it. Rise of Skywalker could easily disappoint, but the point stands that audiences enjoyed it.

If Disney was paying off critics and figured that wasn't working, why would they only bot audience reviews and not just *do both*?

idk it's pretty obvious that TLJ was a critical/commercial success and actual polling firms (i.e. not review bombable sites) seem to back this up

it's fine to not like the movie, i don't, and i don't agree that the hate campaign was done by russian bots. but living in an alternate reality where TLJ wasn't an enormous success outside of vocal internet circles isn't healthy for perspectives on reality.

Rian Johnson is still a successful director (Knives Out has done well in all regards, including online review scores), TLJ made a lot of money, and audiences that were polled by an actual market research firm thought it was good, and I'll trust that way before I trust IMDB/RT/etc. when it comes to gauging the public's larger opinion.

rise of skywalker's gonna be a disaster and maybe it'll actually be the one to bomb, but the internet rooting against Disney's soulless cashgrab remakes didn't stop them from also be commercial successes

Is there a big tournament series I should keep a look out for in NY state, Zero? I mean, I still haven't even won my local once yet, so it'll be awhile before I bother to travel somewhere if I ever do.

i think the data conflicts with opinions a lot but generally speaking i think;

-Joker
-Pikachu
-Peach
-Wario
-Inkling
-Wolf
-Palutena
-Snake
-Pokemon Trainer
-Zero Suit Samus
-Lucina
-Fox

are the top ~12 in some order. Snake has good data but I'm skeptical because disadvantage is really bad especially if he falls behind

If I had to personally list a top 10

Group 1:

Joker/Pikachu/Wario/Palutena/Peach

Group 2:

Inkling/Pokemon Trainer/ZSS/Wolf/Lucina

Fox/Snake on the outbounds because I think they have huge plays that really abate their best qualities. Time may prove me wrong on my thought that Wario is RIDICULOUS but so far he looks tippy top tier.
