as a general rule, the larger the city, the worse it is, especially in California.
LA, SF, Oakland, and the neighbor to the armpit of the state are on your list. what a horrible way to start out.

Best city is going to be either Santa Barbara or SLO.

here in Los Angeles, we overwhelmingly passed a tax increase to help the homeless, and 3 years later nothing has been done. the problem has only gotten worse, there are more homeless, and they are more aggressive than ever.

https://www.latimes.com/opinion/editorials/la-ed-hhh-hurdles-20161114-story.html

city council is finally just getting around to talking about building some "affordable" apartments. but again, the money will just be going to developers.

https://la.curbed.com/2019/9/19/20872593/affordable-homeless-housing-measure-hhh

I try to have sympathy, but at this point I'm fed up with having dinner dates with my wife interrupted by people asking for money.

his kids are the same age as mine, so we talk frequently about that sort of stuff.

that's probably the richest guy I know fairly well. I mean, I have met the ceo of my company that pulls in that much in a year, but I don't talk to him or invite him over for bbqs or anything.

k debonair
07/20/19 8:59:55 AM

here's the thing the irks me about "recycling."

It's that nobody here actually recycles. recycling companies simply sort the materials and ship them off to china. that's not recycling, and that's why they're so damn picky because it messes up the sorting.

there might be handful of places in the entire US that actually shred everything, run it through a magnetic tumbler to pull out the ferrous metals, dump the rest of the shredded stuff into pulper, skim off the plastic and pull out the non-ferrous metals, make paper stock from the pulp, melt the plastic into beads, drop the metals into a blast furnace to make ingots, and burn any of the leftovers and thermoset plastics for fuel.

if we actually truly recycled, it wouldn't matter what you put in the bin because it would all get processed just the same.

imagine thinking that $2500 is a lot of money. the things listed above are not what's holding a generation back. rents that never stop rising and student loans with criminal amounts of interest are. $210 a month on coffee is nothing compared to $1800 a month rent and $1100 monthly on 65K of loans. even with a good job you will be living paycheck to paycheck and it will set you back a good 5 years at least before you can start saving.

you can put together a decent plate of food missing any of the others, but look at someone whose plate only has meat, bread and dairy on it. you would immediately notice something is off about it.

like all those people at hometown buffet, and their plate only has fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy (mashed potatoes is really just more of a processed starch like bread at that point).

not so much any more unless there is a driving force like the kids and parents don't get along. I had several friends that moved out because they were sick of their parents. I personally find tolerating my parents a perfectly reasonable trade-off for living rent-free and having stable housing.

That being said, my mom tried to kick me out when I turned 18. My dad took my side however and they agreed to let me stay until I finished college.

happy that I was moving on, but sad that I was leaving a great family and friends that I had built up over the years.

Senior year in high school I started working at a tire shop part time. I worked there for 6 years while going to college, full time during summer. In the middle I took a year off from school to work all that year and pay off my debt. Everyone there was awesome. Got to know a great many people, learn skills, build a work ethic, and they saw me grow from a teenager into a young man. I had my first "real" beer with those guys when I turned 21. Went to my first strip club with them.

When I graduated and put in my 2 weeks notice, it was a moment of melancholy. I was going to miss all the guys and the great memories. The owner of the shop offered me the store manager position as soon as I told him I was leaving. I seriously considered it.

But then I moved on, got a career, and have been here for 10 years now. If I hadn't had left that previous job, I wouldn't be where I am today.

sorry for the delayed response.

As attorney general, she was all about the thin blue line and taking care of her own over the needs of ordinary people. her prosecutions were all politically motivated to keep the status quo. I don't think I ever saw her once take up a popular cause and fight for it unless she personally agreed with it. However, there were plenty of times she would file suit against the people of California if they were in any way a threat to her. She's arrogant and thinks she knows what's best for everyone; and if you don't agree you're wrong.

take a look at her conviction rate and crime stats. she's the biggest supporter of the prison-industrial complex.

as senator, she is all about the nanny state. She is at home litigating and bring down the law. the more laws she can make regulating everything, the better. any way she can fine someone or get money out of them for the state coffer is a notch in her belt.

hell, the wikipedia article on her says it all.

food easily. the sleep power doesn't give you anything you couldn't already do, it just makes it take less time. the food power lets you create something from nothing.

with food, you can travel the world and never need for food again. just set out into the mountains one day with nothing but a small pack of necessities, and you can sustain yourself for as long as you want.

I can see people picking sleep if they are the kind that never leaves the house and has easy access to food, but it doesn't add much utility beyond that. a guaranteed food supply lets you do so much more.

I prefer Pepsi. It's a little bit sweeter and not as acidic/carbonated.

I already do.

Really, the only bad thing is that we have too many people, and the people here suck. As a result, you have traffic, gangs, blight, and all the other stuff that results from a bunch of dumb people crowded together.

Other than that, California's awesome. great weather, tons of stuff to do, places to see. A lot of opportunity, both in jobs and just general livelihood overall.
