I found an amazing apartment on kijiji today - right up my alley and really big - 1045 square feet. Also an underground parking spot. I am going to see it tomorrow at 3pm. Hopefully ill be moving in at the beginning of April, but im getting ahead of myself.
Best wishes, that is a decent amount of space. Off street parking is definitely a good thing. Keep moving forward, you're doing the right things

Going to have a call with her tonight.
She has still been paying utility bills at the house. To compromise ill have her stop paying those, but she will still have to pay the house and insurance.
Im going to see an apartment tomorrow in a building im very interested in living in.
Its pretty pricy but i am going to treat myself coming out if this.
I'm not sure why you're compromising here. It's your house and it's her house. The bills don't change. More to the point, if it's contested, if she's paying the house and insurance? Guess whose house it is now? Stop that, it's a shared asset at this point. 50/50 or you're setting yourself up.

Apologies for the @J03can but you need to see this

Hi! Im out of town on a work thing tonight. I got pretty drunk. Ive never really drank on these things before. Id say i hope i didnt make too much of a fool of myself but other people defintiely eclipsed me on that.
One of the reasons i let loose tonight was that my wife messaged me today saying she wanted a call. She has found an apartment ($1900 a month...) and she wants support to pay for this before we sell the house (soon).
I said im not going to do that unless a lawyer says that i have to. Im worried things are about to get ugly. I will keep CE posted.
These interactions aren't good for me at all. Shes always reminding me that this is "all my fault". Yes i had said some ugly things over the years (12 years) sometimes when we would fight bad but there was nothing around the time we broke up. It takes 2. Ugh dudes im drunk right now. I wish it was 6 months from now...
No. No to paying anything not court ordered. If you do, that's coming back to continue. Glad you got the attorney, seems things may get ugly.

Sorry dude, I've got nothing upbeat to say here

Edit: if you help her, financially, that will continue in the divorce proceedings. She can manage while you negotiate the proceedings same as you.

Ah, yes. They're likely billing invested time, since you've gone into hiring them. In that case, do what you must. Consultation and initial is often nothing. Beyond that, it's billing time, and rightfully so. Just keep an eye out, some attorneys do like the slow burn for obvious reason.

Be well, and as far as attorney fees? If they're billing you excessively, there's always another. Getting charged crazy rates for next to nothing isn't a mark in their favor. Find one that'll do their job, and bill you fairly

Get well soon, keep doing you. You're gonna be ok, as long as you both continue to respect each other, this will pass as painlessly as possible. It's a loss, and a lot to deal with, but as long as you both continue to respect each other you'll come out ok.

Oh of course. We are planning on selling and splitting it down the middle. We are both seeing lawyers who are a part of this "best 4 all" plan. We are basically putting together an agreement drafted by our lawyers and committing to not litigate. Aside from the horrible heartbreak, we will both come out of this pretty good.
I'm sorry for the situation, but it seems you're both doing things the right way. It's the best way for this to play out, make the break without fights, and move forward separately without sour feelings

You may still love each other, there's a lot of time and memories. But that doesn't necessarily mean together will work anymore unfortunately. People can be divorced and still care about the other, not all are acrimonious hate fests.

As far as your house, you may not want it anymore, but that's a lot of money to just walk out on. The best would be listing it and splitting the proceeds, or her buying you out in my opinion.

Maybe talk to your lawyer about what the possibility is of you keeping the house. Is that even something you want, or do you just want a clean (i.e. even) break from any joint assets? I mean I would try to keep the house if you have no plans to move, but sometimes moving away does help heal the emotional wounds.
Not a bad question. It's also a huge issue, this is why a lawyer is needed, even if you don't want to fight.

I got to work on time today only to find out I didnt have to be there until an hour latter because of the late start due to snow. So I had to sit at work, on my own time, waiting to start since there was no use going back home and coming back.

And then I had to work an hour latter than usual because all the lunches got moved forward because of the late start.
You are getting fucked over right there.

Nah, you're not being overly sad in my opinion. It's a blow, you're dealing with it. Sad is expected.

But you're doing the right things, reaching out to friends and family. Getting an attorney for the legal stuff. Planning some you time to get back on track.

Take it at your own pace, you're sounding much better now than the beginning of this topic for what it's worth. It's gonna take time, but keep doing you, you'll be ok

Youre right. Thanks man. Ive been a bit all over the place lately. Part of the process i suppose... i know ill be ok and i know this trip is the right thing.

There have been a couple people around me at work - both older ladies, who imply that i should be doing more to get her back. They arent doing it out of anywhere bad, i think they are just bummed because we just got married a year and a half ago
You needn't do more. You've left the door open for her, it seems she isn't interested right now. Perhaps for her, that door is closed.

Either way, continue to soldier on. It's up to you and her in this, I wouldn't take the workplace thoughts with even a grain of salt.

Yep, after looking around, never again. The finance charge wasn't clearly spelled out in the paperwork as monthly. But it was called out in a several thousand dollar amount over the term, so I guess they covered it.

Basically, if I paid according to their setup, on my $4000, I'd pay $8000 in finance charges and $20000 overall. Bit I've got 18 months no interest and it's gonna be done well before that.

I'm thinking about just paying the remainder in full so no more of these monthly finance charges. They are a predatory loan company for sure

For others who may encounter GreenSky, the interest is high if not paid off, and the minimum payment is only enough to keep off collections. It will not pay off the loan. Not even close.

You'll owe at least 3x as much, with interest attached. Deal with your bank, even if it slows the process down

Yeah, I needed my bathroom redone asap. Tub cracked. Was gonna leak soon. The contractor did a helluva job, this greensky company seems shady.

After this topic, I researched them and I'm getting away from this asap, gotta thank you for the topic.

Once it's paid, you don't owe their ridiculous interest, so that's nice, but the finance charges might as well be interest imo.

God help the people that can't pay tho. I financed it since I didn't want the out of pocket hit, but with the extra charge, it didn't really work out that way.

I also have a GreenSky loan. The finance charge, as explained on their site, states it applies to revolving accounts. Those being ones carrying a balance. I'm paying it off faster than necessary and won't do business with them again. I'll go to my bank instead.

The contractor set it up, which is mostly how green sky gets their business it seems. The contractor wasn't shady in my case, but the finance company is. I'm gonna look thru that paperwork and see if it was called out on what I signed. I may have missed that

Edit: It does call out a finance charge but nowhere do I see it as a monthly
