Topic | C/D: The people who wrote the Constitution did not understand slavery was wrong |
scorpion41 12/29/19 10:57:11 PM #9 | Gamerguymass posted... They knew it was wrong, but they also knew if they outlawed slavery in the Constitution then the south would tell them to fuck off and never ratify it. Basically itmwas more important at the time to keep the people united and form a government and deal with slavery at a later date. Yes it sucks for those that were slaves, but the alternative was a possible civil war even earlier and/or Britain invading again while the nation was divided and infighting. Thats a weird take on it. Many of the Founders were also slave owners, who likely viewed the institution as necessary to sustain a viable agricultural economy. When technology began to make large-scale farming easier, and industry become more prominent, then the people started to question slaverys viability status. The southern states still had a large focus on agriculture and were worried, and its a legit concern, about their ability to farm their cash crops. So really slavery was a necessary evil up until modern industry negated the need for it. --- PSN: scorpion_4160 Currently Playing: NCAA 14(PS3) |

Being trained to operate something is not the same as someone with malicious intent wanting to harm innocent people. Laws wont fix it though. More often than not, the firearms used in shootings were legally purchased. Thats the point control advocates like yourself are missing. Many of these shooters were law abiding citizens at one point. No law is going to curb this. What Europe has in place, as well as Australia, is essentially a gun ban. The costs would be greater than the benefits. Youre aware we already have over 200 federal laws governing firearms already, right? Which one of those stopped a shooter from legally buying a weapon? The Parkland shooter was able to buy his weapon because local agencies were too lazy to put in information that wouldve flagged him. UBC wouldnt have turned up anything either. That would require making their medical records public, which is in violation of HIPAA rules unless it is involved with past criminal activity. And all states require background checks when buying through FFL dealers. Even with UBC in place, private deals can and will occur with little or no consequence to the seller. Scratch the serial off and you have an untraceable weapon.
