Anyone wanna give betting odds on some Trump supporter attempting to break into mailboxes to steal ballots after having this insane idea planted in their head by Trump? (Thinking of that one woman who voted for Trump in two states in 2016 to try and "balance out" what she was convinced was rampant voter fraud for Clinton)

Even if there are such people they won't make a difference. Systematic cheating organized by the DNC on other hand.....

Will probably not change anything because they'll pick exactly the wrong counties to cheat in.

I decided to stay in CAR for now. I'll probably sell if it gets to $30 but I think it's still a good value even at $22. When I bought at $11 I was looking for it to rise to $30+ but didn't expect it to break $20 within 2 weeks.

Bought some F today. I think people are going to need cars more going forward, as living in cities and using public transportation has proven to be quite dangerous for health and increasingly unnecessary for work.

That took more than 550 years from when it first reached Europe. I think Sephy would not be concerning himself with such long timescales.

If we want to be extremely pedantic, it can be argued that the current incarnation of the nation of Germany only starts from the fall of the Berlin Wall

I think the legal process the used for reunification was actually that each of the East German states seceded from East Germany, and joined West Germany under the clause of the West German basic law that allows German-speaking states to join. So the current Federal Republic of Germany is legally the same as West Germany, and the East German federal state ceased to exist when it lost all of its members. The same process was used to dissolve the USSR (all the member republics seceded).

I'm wondering if maybe I should sell my CAR shares. I've only held them for 2 weeks but they've been up 10% nearly every day and I'm up 93%. I wonder how long this can keep going.

I am planning on visiting Wynn in Vegas maybe late June if the pandemic situation looks safe. I was actually there a couple days before they closed in March and they had probably the best blackjack conditions Vegas has seen in years (maximum 3 players to a table, and low bet minimums). I think the max 3 players to a table rule is probably here to stay for a while, which is good for players enjoying their experience but maybe not for the house.

I checked my offers and they are offering me comped nights during the week but not for the weekend. I suppose that means that enough people are booking that they don't feel the need to dig deep to get customers to come.

It's pretty clear that the transmission rate is strongly related to population density. When there is a high concentration of people (NYC subway, European soccer games, the New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration, etc.) transmission skyrockets. Where there isn't (see Sweden and Texas) the transmission rate is lower. Lockdowns obviously decrease the concentration of people and therefore decrease the transmission rate, but some areas start out with lower concentrations of people and have a natural advantage.

I don't think a separate category for assumptions exists in defamation law. It's either a fact, or an opinion. Within facts, you can have true facts and false facts, and it's only false facts that are actionable.

how is that an opinion

Because the way she talked about it, it should have been apparent to a reasonable viewer that the conclusion was an inference drawn from some other facts, which she had expressed, and there were not additional unstated facts from which she based her conclusion. Compare the following statements.

  1. OANN employs a journalist who also works for Russia Today. They must also be funded by Russia.
  2. I have direct evidence that OANN is funded by Russia.
1 is an opinion and not actionable through a defamation case (assuming the fact about employing a journalist who also works for RT is true). 2 is a statement of fact, and if false, can lead to liability for defamation.

I like Bernie. I kind of like Elizabeth Warren. I think AOC is completely unrealistic in her wish list. Any of those three probably would have handed Trump another term because they are probably unelectable to moderates.

The phenomenon of Trump he himself explained when he was still a candidate:
He said his supporters would support him even if he shot someone in broad daylight. He was a laughingstock back then. Now far less people are laughing.

Basically, his supporters put their word in him as if he's a deity. Anything he says is truth, anything unfavorable to him is fake. It's classic cult of personality.

Now he's supporting news that only favors him, and even bashes Fox, which is clearly heavily biased in his favor. But heavily biased isn't enough for someone as narcissistic as President Trump. He must be unquestioned. All of his concerns and conspiracies must not only be acknowledged as legitimate, but outright true. Anything unfavorable to him must be downplayed or ignored.

And now he wants to investigate "unfair" bias against conservatives. What we are seeing is a full on war on political freedom in this country. He's going to go after anyone that says things unfavorable about him, or who disagree with him. And his supporters, like puppets, eat it all up. They are turning into enemies of political freedom; aggressors eating up propaganda that they are the ones being oppressed.

This MUST. NOT. HAPPEN. For the sake of this country, Trump and his far right allies must lose. Honorable Republicans need to take back that party ASAP.

Yeah, that's why Hillary Clinton had to be stopped. That's why the moderate Dems have to be stopped. To save our political freedom.

Once we've stopped that threat, we can vote out Trump, but until then, gotta focus on the most pressing danger to freedom.

I think the way the USSR understood the terms was:

Socialism - the transitional state where the state owns and controls everything.
Communism - the end state where the idea of ownership of property has been abolished.

Of course, no state run by the Communist Party has ever gotten beyond socialism, probably because they have no incentive to give up 100% ownership of all assets of the country.
