In a year where Zelda rampaged through the bracket and was miles above Sephiroth, Link still couldn't break 60% on Cloud at the end of the contest. And remember, Mario has never broken 40% on Link. Samus has never broken 40% on Link. Megaman has never broken 40% on Link. Sonic has never broken 40% on Link. Crono has never broken 40% on Link. In 18 years, Cloud, Sephiroth, Snake, and rally/joke characters are the only ones who have ever held our champion under 60%, and Sephiroth isn't remotely up to the challenge anymore. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! |

While I'm sure there exist some people calling for a total lockdown until we get a vaccine, that's certainly not a popular opinion even among those currently opposed to reopening. As for contact tracing, other countries have implemented it and we should be able to as well. The Trump administration did not even try to start doing so. We can't make reopening contingent on something like contact tracing. Reopening is mandatory, and we should do our best to prepare for it. If you say something like "lockdown until contact tracing" you are basically telling the American People that their health is more important than their freedom. That's not your call to make. And it's not the call that this nation has historically made. If you want good results, don't make this into a health vs. freedom debates. Snake vs. Bowser was pretty exciting! As a match in itself, it was better than anything in the Devil Division it was closer than anything in the Devil Division and the only match there of comparable closeness was the trendless Vincent vs. Squall where Vincent just edged ahead by inches at a time, all day long. As an aside, props to Magus for cutting 1000 votes off of Knuckles from 2700 down with the SNV. Nowadays it's hard to imagine someone making any cuts whatsoever with the SNV from 2700 down, yet Magus fought well here, after he was buried under the sun. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! |

| red sox 777 05/11/20 7:20:30 PM #68 | FF struggled like hell to beat Mario and then went down comfortably to Zelda. It was uninteresting but so was this contest. Reading this sentence you wouldn't guess which one was a 53/47 match and which one was 51/49! The Series Contest should also go down as the contest where the start time was switched from midnight Pacific to midnight Eastern. This was a change that would eventually render the famed Second Night Vote too short and weak to do anything. In the FF v. Zelda match, however, the old tendency for Square to beat Nintendo with the SNV made one last hurrah as FF defeated Zelda for the period of the final 11 hours of the match. (Note that this was a Summer match without an ASV and hence with a much earlier and more powerful SNV than usual). --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! |

| red sox 777 05/11/20 4:36:47 PM #46 | LeonhartFour posted... it just depends on whether you consider it worse that Vincent actually was that good or that we thought Magus was that good I honestly think we should consider the possibility that Magus was that good in 2003 and just fell off a cliff. We've seen with Cloud, Sephiroth, and Vincent that two characters there with similar appeal to Magus fell off a cliff while the hero was relatively unscathed. Magus beat Ganondorf in 2003, so it's not like our estimation of his strength was based on one 35% showing against Link. The other thing is that we should consider the possibility that Crono 2003 was stronger than Crono 2004 and it was hidden by the massive votals Mario/Crono 2 got. That match got such high votals compared to the Mario/Sephiroth match the next round that it might as well have happened in a different year. So, extrapolating Crono through Mario is probably unfair, because the Mario he fought did not show up in any other round in 2003. Then we have both Crono and Magus falling a fairly long way in 2003, instead of Crono staying constant while Magus fell off a cliff (or was a giant fraud). --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! |

For that matter if we are going to have different standards for different people, mine would be higher for a high ranking US senator than a 20-year-old college student. Replacing him with another conservative judge wouldn't have set that precedent. It's like the guy in Mississippi who was convicted 6 times by white juries and had his conviction overturned 6 times for the prosecutors striking jurors based on race. That isn't very direct evidence, but the focus goes there because it's the only thing that can be investigated 25 years later. But this is both ineffective for determining truth, and places the victim on trial. The presumption of innocent until proven guilty also protects victims - so that where there is doubt, the accused can be acquitted without concluding that the complainant is "not credible." The increasing trend, started by the left, of needing to believe one person or the other but refusing to admit that they lack the evidence to reliably decide - this is really bad and hurts everyone. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! |

And eyewitness testimony is much less reliable than it's traditionally been held to be. It's because people have to make sense of the world around them as they experience it, and people do it by building models of the world which change as new information comes in. That doesn't make them dishonest, it's just how people function. Now if you are a powerless staffer in the 90s and you were attacked by the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee...... you are probably going to choose your words in such a way as to try to avoid conflict. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! |
