Well, *3 eventually via Core Weapon unlocks. I figure that's the better plan of action because the increased level cap of 50 makes a noticeable difference, as well as the added part breaking potential.

Contrast that with making my *1 into *2 when I already know my current *2 are struggling on these stages, and a freshly unlocked *1 will have it even worse.

The only major flaw I could see in player retention would be if too many players get stuck unable to make progress in the story and aren't patient enough to grind and upgrade their characters, weapons, and gear to overcome it. If players feel like they can't even reach the later content without spending money, they'll probably quit, especially if their most desired waifu is one of the late chapter characters like Celeste, Helen, or Fran. I'm at that story wall myself right now, but I'm being patient and grinding to push through it.

Yeah, I can see that being a detriment, and I say that as someone who already has Celeste, Helen, and Fran from lucky chest rolls.

Of course, getting them too early has its own downsides, namely the lack of weapon variety and being stuck at *1 while others are becoming *3.

I got a small supply chest from a quest reward and it gave me a random 5* weapon for Sigurd (and therefore Sigurd himself) out of fucking nowhere.

That's how I got Helen myself. I had assumed prior to that you could only get *5 weapons from special chests (like the rate-up banner ones), but even common ones can have them too.

The Last Unicorn and Disney's Sword in the Stone were what ruined me when my young self was driven mad and miserable that there wasn't a transformation spell that provided a "happy medium" to fix their respective species issues.

Ironically, it wasn't even for my sake, I just wanted the characters involved to be happy.

Still, it made me think over time that there shouldn't be barriers or restraint when fiction is concerned, and my own personal fondness towards non-human gals extends the whole range of the "furry chart".

Keep in mind this is the same site that allowed The Admiral to run around unchecked for years, and only finally banned him because he was becoming too inconvenient to deal with anymore.

Yep, played plenty back in the day, and that eventually lead me to finding some Japanese sites thar specialized in hentai flash. Then came the boorus and chans... there's a reason 1/3 of my total porn collection is SWF files, some older than my account.

And hell, I *still* would be combing the internet and adding to my endless collection if I could access my laptop, or at the very least if my phone were flash compatible.

In one episode, Eddie nearly kills himself to save Justin, and gets one deed. He enters a despair event horizon because of this, and decides to give up on good deeds and stay a dog. Its so bad that the normally snarky Drifter actually pleads with Eddie to not give up. It takes him nearly killing himself again to save Justin again, and getting another good deed, to realize he still has a chance.

The Drifter also does this to other kids too; one episode has a dog who is undergoing a similar trial just like Eddie, and the only person who can hear her speak is the last person whose car she destroyed. (She "Pooled" them.) One can only imagine how many dogs are actually transformed teens.
