I had the biggest 180 experience with Doom 2016, so much so that I removed Doom Eternal from my wish list.

The first few hours are a lot of fun and intense, but it is just so repetitive and way too long for the kind of game that it is. A one trick pony like Doom needs to be only like 6 hours. Anyways, I was digging it well enough for the first half or so then just wanted to be done with it. Was determined to finish, got to the second to last mission, and the fucking game crashed and lost all save data. Don't have it in me to restart and see it through since there was really nothing to keep me invested in the first place which is unfortunate. I wanted to love it

The only reason Halo has ever been considered good is because it popularized MP on consoles.

An entire generation of Japanese devs have had their storytelling abilities ruined by exposure to anime. Ok, there are (literally) a couple exceptions.

(Related) JRPGs haven't been consistently even decent since 2005.

Far Cry 3 was one of the smartest narratives of last gen but a lot of people missed it because the game satirized its own audience.

Bethesda does diegetic storytelling better than From (or at least, they have, who knows what the future holds with Bethesda now).

Regarding Far Cry 3, would you say Spec Ops The Line did a similar player takedown more effectively?

Open world is almost always bad and only serves to artificially inflate game length.

Generally agree but a rich open world is so damn enjoyable. GTAV and RDR certainly benefit from it because it is so immersive. Something like Far Cry doesn't really benefit too much.

I think Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts did a great job in striking a balance. Learning that GW 3 was needlessly open world so they scaled back to individual levels that were still massive and dense.

Agreed. The only reason people didn't play it was because they didn't like the first game. Which is dumb because the first game was solid and the sequel is almost completely unrelated.

I liked DOOM well enough but outside of the core combat the game is completely barren and revels a bit too much in not having a story or framework at all. I would have preferred another Doom 3.

Doom's hyper violence and core gameplay along with the soundtrack did a great job at making you feel like the ultimate demon slayer in an exhilarating way, but that just wore off for me halfway through.

Agreed on Rage though. I dug the first game even though it had no ending and it was nothing but go do this go do that. The second one kinda was that way too, but it improved on literally everything.

The mobility, the powers, the brutality and satisfaction of the combat, everything. And both games looked amazing.

I took Doom Eternal off my wishlist after playing Doom.

I actually work for a living and am not a bitter commie, so I understand perfectly well. Millions use Amazon every single day. Countless businesses thrive because they are able to operate through amazon. Those two things happen not by force, but because people choose to engage with Amazon because it makes things easier.

never said they had to work at a specific place or starve to death. but they do have to work or starve to death, which gives the employer a distinct advantage in terms of bargaining power.

yes, because they choose to not starve to death.

this further highlights the power imbalance.

but also: without people to do the actual work, the company cannot exist.

the workers are taking more risk than the founder. they depend on their job for survival; the founder does not depend on the company for survival.

this could... use some elaboration

the issues I am describing are systemic. this is a solution at the individual level -- it does not fundamentally change anything.

I am not talking about risks the founder currently has, but the risks they took on in the first place. their current rewards are a long delayed return on their assumption of massive risk, investment, and time being the only one building the company.

Every individual low level employee is replaceable from day one of their employment. That is the opposite of the case for the creator.

And I don't need to elaborate on how companies like Amazon and Apple and Microsoft improve QOL for everyone. It is self-evident

Loan forgiveness is a garbage idea and even though I would personally benefit from it, I can't be for it. It completely absolves people of personal responsibility.

That said, the debt issue and action regarding it should be focused on interest. I would be fully on board with capping the interest way low and retroactively applying all payments made to the principal balance minus the adjusted interest rate.

That would help millions of people and likely eliminate their debt entirely, but it would eliminate it by using money they've already paid and make remaining debt for everyone else much more manageable

"it isn't voluntary if the only other choice is "starve to death"

This is exactly what you said. No ones only choice is work at a specific place or strve to death. They work for billionaires because they choose to. They agree to their wage because they choose to.

Without any single one of them, the company doesn't notice. Without the founder and the risk and enormous investment on their part, the company ceases to ever exist along with the vast amounts of jobs and the economic stimulus they provide. Not to mention the ways in which they vastly improve QOL for pretty much everyone.

They gave a higher general net benefit to the country at large than any individual employee of theirs ever will.

If the employees want the same rewards, go create, innovate, lead, and take on the same risks necessary to start and build a mega company

yes they do. from their employees who earned it. that's literally how they make money.

corrections:
-they themselves do not provide the product or service. their employees do.
-they gain their wealth by underpaying the employees. if they paid their employees the actual value of their labour, they would not make any money themselves.

it isn't voluntary if the only other choice is "starve to death"

You think the choice is work at Amazon or starve to death? I dont work at Amazon, I'm not starving. And they literally don't steal it. A company they created, one that would not exist, along with its hundreds of thousands of jobs, without them creating it.

Warehouse workers enter employment voluntarily. They execute processes created by other people and are cogs in a machine they did nothing to create and do not innovate.

Are you under the impression they dont know their wage when they accept a job?

You reek of envy and bitterness.

the issue is that people frequently frame donations like this as though the billionaire is being generous when that is not actually the case. billionaires essentially gained their wealth by stealing it from their employees and the general public, and by not paying their taxes (which charitable donations like this help them to do)

in addition, this is just one case of charitable donations. we don't always know that money donated to "charity" is always going to a good cause. many wealthy people can afford to create their own organization and get tax breaks from funding it. that's how we get The Heritage Foundation and other similar organizations.

This is all so full of shit. They dont steal their wealth. And they pay more in personal taxes than you and multiple generations of your family will ever even make. Do you voluntarily donate more in taxes then the minimum required? Thought not.

They gained their wealth through voluntary tary transactions made in exchange for whatever product or service they provide. And people choose to be a part of their companies. Everything is voluntary.

This is like if you had $4000 in savings and donated $13. How is this anything to complain about? Joe Rogan did a great thing here in my book.

What I am disgusted with is someone like Jeff Bezos donating $680k to combat the wildfires when he could just as easily pay for the entire cost. I mean dear god, $680k for him is 0.00068% of his wealth. If we used the same metrics as before that would be like donating $0.03 on a $4000 savings. Thats fucking pathetic.

The money doesn't spend any differently than if it was a higher percentage of total wealth. Do you think Australians care or do you think they see $680k put toward their relief efforts?

It is absolutely not the same as you donating 3 cents of your 4k savings because 3 cents cost them more to accept than decline and 680k actually makes a difference.
