That looks so bad when I'm 11 years in the future and looking back. I have a saved copy of my bracket so I can't even pretend that I didn't have Starcraft over FF8 in Round 1. I then had (Oot >) FF8 > Starcraft in Round 2. I have no idea how I justified the two games switching position between rounds.

Round 1 results are released on March 17th and I assume Round 2 starts after that. For some reason they have 5 weeks scheduled for a 6 round tournament where each round lasts a week. So I'm not exactly sure what their future plans are.

HGSS is worlds weaker than GSC. It might turn out to be on the upper end of modern Pokemon games for strength but that's not much. The voters who make RBY and to a lesser extent GSC strong quit Pokemon years before HGSS came out and they will not accept HGSS as a GSC proxy.

Don't forgot to make sure it doesn't get out of Division 8 either. GSC would struggle to beat Skyrim. Asking for a modern Pokemon game to pull that off is asking way too much.

I would have liked to have seen a bit more faith in Skyrim and let it take a crack at some of the higher end (not BotW) Nintendo games. I don't think even SSBU was completely out of reach.

Skyrim was crazy strong in 2015. I sort of wish it got a shot at SMO or SSBU. I don't think Witcher 3 will be strong enough to challenge Skyrim without a rally and rallied Witcher 3 likely gets past BotW as well.

Esports are getting hit as well because, oddly enough, a lot of the big events are in-person events. Overwatch and LoL have already cancelled or postponed large events. Smash tournaments are getting cancelled. I'm not as familiar with Street Fighter but those events are likely getting cancelled as well.

I hate to bring this up but with the way things are going you might even need to look into postponing your wedding. At the very least you should prepare for the worst case and find out what would need to be done and the costs involved. It would be nice if things just got better, though.

What little information we have ties SSBU and GoW together. If that result was mostly SSBU being weak, it also pushes GoW below Witcher 3. If SSBU is weak enough to lose to SMO, GoW is likely weaker than Witcher 3 as well. But as always keep in mind that SSBU and GoW are connected via a (1v1) GotY poll which might simply not hold up in a contest.

Keep in mind that Galaxy 2 was in that poll. Removing it won't go 100% into SMG but it might shred the gap between SMG and SMO by quite a bit.

That's a gutsy pick. I'm not entirely sure Odyssey is stronger than SMG. It feels like it should be except SMG came out a lot closer to 1998 and that's a tough advantage to beat. However, SSBU vs GoW was a shockingly unimpressive result by SSBU. So I can see SSBU dropping the ball.

Way back in 2002 we used to have topicality rules. However, the users didn't like this. One day a mod deleted the Stats and Discussion topic, perhaps the most on topic topic on the entire board. The users rioted and won over the mods. As a result, topics don't have to be about the contest anymore.

I'm not as confident in that statement as I was when I made it. My thinking was that a lot of games really didn't change by much going from GotD1 to Best Game Ever 2015. I was banking on that also being true going from Best Game Ever 2015 to now. So my thinking was GTA5 is going to be as strong now as it was when it faced SMRPG 5 years ago despite GTA5 apparently doubling its sales since then. Similarly Witcher 3 might not be much stronger now compared to back then despite all the extra sales.

But, I've since gone back to look at how much things changed between 2010 and 2015 and it's not really as static as I had hoped. While many games seemed to be about the same strength as before, some games really did change by a lot. If any game was going to grow from 2015 to now, Witcher 3 seems like it would be that game. I might still gamble and predict that Witcher 3 is being overrated but it's very much a gamble I'm not confident in.

The thing is that even GameFAQs doesn't seem to like Geno that much (and we liked his game a lot!). I find it hard to believe Geno is more popular outside of GameFAQs which means he's a super questionable choice for SSB.

Fortnite's not popular on a site like GameFAQs (unless a rally takes over). Horizon's got that match pretty easily.

I feel like people are underestimating Bloodstained for that fourpack. I feel like most voters will equate it to Symphony of the Night and gain all the strength that comes with it.

SotN is strong enough to easily win that division. If Bloodstained is anything like SotN, it makes it to BotW before bowing out respectfully. In reality, Bloodstained looks more like this:
