Hard/Classic with rewinds is pretty much the perfect Fire Emblem experience. All of the strategy and none of the lame bullshit.

As others have pointed out, on Hard/Casual you can just suicide units to brute force maps, thus removing any semblance of actual strategy.

It really depends how you play the game. I still try not to lose people playing on casual (though I do accept some losses in some fights, it didn't happen much in Echoes or Houses because of rewinds).

Also he already said he doesn't like Hard Classic so I don't get what you're arguing by calling it perfect.

If you're rewatching, I'd just go with the movies. I think they're about three quarters content from the series with the rest being new stuff.

You said you knew before you played this game. I've generally had the most fun playing the post-DS games on Hard Casual. Feels reasonably balanced most of the time (especially since I spend most fights farming Support conversations, which adds to the difficulty level...).

Wave, Listen to Me beated. Bad show. All the radio stuff was really lame, and the Mitsuo stuff was all lame too. The show was generally better when it was exploring the stuff with Minare and the curry restaurant, but that wasn't really the focus.

That makes three Hiroaki Samura series I dislike now. Bradherley's Coach was a super weird child sex slavery series, Blade of the Immortal was so depressing I dropped it, and now this was just lame. Blech.

A few of these things have mentioned a woman sharing a room with a man at a convention hotel. Is that really that normal? It feels like a strange thing to do if they aren't in a romantic relationship.

A couple references, sure. But even then, the remakes of 1 & 2 (which are what everyone plays) add references to later games in the series anyway. You're going to miss references no matter what.

In either case, it's not like the references are a major part of the game. It was made to be played as its own thing.

AFAIK most people play origins without playing 1 and 2.

Quests being tied to dungeons you've already done is definitely bad game design imo. It's much better when quests are more of a motivation to like, thoroughly explore the new dungeon you're going to.

I haven't watched it yet, but I've read the books up to the end of that arc. The weird thing is that S1 adapts up until maybe 80% of the way through book 9 and then just ends. I guess they wanted a more conclusive ending? I really liked the ending of book 9 though, so it's a bit of an odd choice.

The number of times I've been separated from my spaceship on Giant's Deep and needed to wait fifteen minutes to die and start over really turned me off of the game.

Tower of God complete. Was okay? Most of it was pretty competent, but I don't feel like it really stood out compared to other shounen. The animation and music were good, and the pace was nice and fast, but it didn't have much for epic moments or whatever. Of course, it was only 12 episodes, and it's probably as good as the first 12 episodes of a lot of longer shounen, but I was hoping for more considering how into it people seemed to be. The characters were all pretty alright, but there weren't any huge standouts (Anaak was probably the most likable, but I don't understand why her mission is to kill the Princesses of Jahad instead of the King - is that explained later? You would think the King would be her main enemy...). Bam was a competent enough MC, but he didn't stand out a ton either. Some characters don't really have their motivations fleshed out as much as they could, too. I dunno. I also felt like I never understood what a Princess of Jahad is. The show moved at a fast pace in general, but I feel like the revelations should've come at a faster pace...

Bad characters, bad story, bad gameplay, bad world design. If they fixed those aspects maybe they could've had a good game.

I don't think the OST is good compare to other FF OSTs either, though I do like the Apocalypsis songs.

They wanted to keep the same names used in the translation of the webcomic... not sure why the Japanese people translated it, but tbh I basically never see anime names translated so...

That doesn't really answer the question though. It just makes it "why did the webcomic English tl not tl Bam's name into English?"

And I've definitely seen plenty of names translated. Most immediate one that comes to mind is Tekkonkinkreet, where the main characters are called "Black" and "White" in the TL, rather than "Kuro" and "Shiro." Nicknames are frequently translated in general, since those nicknames would be meaningless if they weren't. I assume that was the case with Bam too - his name is just "night" not an actual name, so they translated it in the Japanese.

Sengoku Rance is awesome. Not too sure about calling it an RPG though. Kind of a TBS/RPG hybrid, leaning more toward RPG.

I think the earlier Rance games are more RPG-like.

Looks like I've got 19 watched, so just about half? Actually watched three in the past week, one of them because of this list (and another partly because of the list)! They were Marnie, Pancreas, and Anthem, all of which were quite good, and Pancreas made me cry. Felt like Pancreas basically got better as it went, especially after she died. Anthem could've been higher - I liked most of it, but wasn't too into the scene where she ran away from the performance (everything before and after that was good). Marnie was quality all the way.

I don't really love anything on this list - I marked tiers with the ---s, each one basically being a score point. Dead Leaves is a 9, the next tier is 8s, and Maquia's all the way down at a 2/10 (I found all the rape stuff in Maquia super creepy, though it's an aspect that doesn't seem to bother most people). Pretty sure the other anime lists you guys have done have had more movies I'm into than this one.

This list made me realize that I haven't really been that into anime movies in the 2010s. My favorite "independent" one is probably Hotarubi no Mori e (Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light) - not sure you've done that one on a list. The others I'm into have all been series stuff, like Mardock Scramble or Heaven's Feel or Nanoha or Sengoku Basara or whatever. Oh right, also Garden of Words, which is my favorite or second favorite thing from Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star is also fantastic).

I like the manga more than the anime for the most part I think, though I don't super love either. I did 100% love the ending scene of the movie where all the Xs fade away though. That scene was incredible.

@xp1337, not sure if you've found them on your own, but this is the manga the upcoming FGO event is based on. There's a lot of 'chapters' but they're all one page, so they're a quick read, and they're pretty fun IMO!
