I think said spoiler still needs to happen, but that may be the purist in me. Part 2 will definitely be heavily looked at regarding all of this, and may dramatically affect sales for part 3. I think droves of people will still spend on part 2 to see which direction they go, but would be dicey to try the same tactic for part 3. Either way, still looking forward to this playing out in front of me, as I'm not quite there yet in this part.

Did the Corneo Coliseum, which was awesome. When the bonus battle was announced, I was expecting Reno, Rude, or both. I was NOT expecting the glorious HELL HOUSE!!! I was a little disappointed that I didn't run into it while going through sector 6 and thought it was just forgotten. It, thankfully, was not.

I suppose the real answer is that it's ambiguous.

I think this is the main thing right now. We don't know. Yeah, it could definitely spiral in some crazy direction. But it could also cause a new/different way of moving towards a lot of the same things that happen regardless. I'm guessing episode 2 (or whatever they call it) will go to the end of what would be disc 1. I still have faith that the final boss will be Jenova LIFE (with some Sephiroth addition I'm sure), and the iconic death will still be a thing.

If you use Tifa, her ATB gauge builds so ridiculously quick you can just spam it. I just have it on a hot key and so incorporate that hotkey into square spam instinctively when using her.

You just can't rely on it to keep health near full for big hitting attacks as it barely heals for anything above like half health

I really need to use hotkeys more, and actually map them correctly. That's a big failing on my part lol. At chapter 9, so don't have Tifa back yet, but when I do, that's definitely a good call.

I have had a frustrating time managing MP. The Crab Mech actually almost killed me because I ran out and had to use ATB for Phoenix Downs and I wasn't able to get Curas off.

Fuck the Crab Warden. I struggled HARD against that thing. Granted, I still hadn't really mastered the battle system (and I still don't think I have), but damn did I almost get murdered in that fight.

I think, regarding the ending stuff that I know some of, that episode 2 will obviously shed some light on the direction. It's a cliffhanger, to a degree, and whether it's a good or bad thing, we won't know for a bit. I know a lot of people have soured on it, for obvious reasons, but I also think we can't shit on it quite yet until we see its effects. If it ends up going in a ridiculous way and messes up a lot of iconic things, yeah, we can totally shit on it.

That said, am I worried about it? Absolutely. I'm trying to be optimistic though lol.

I think if you press the middle button on the PS4 controller, the assess data comes back up. Not 100% sure, though I remember reading something like that.

No only blue materia need to be linked. Auto-Cure will work without being linked although I assume you still need to have a healing materia equipped as well. That I'm not sure of.

As for synergy, you equip it to the person you want following the leader. So if Cloud is your leader, and you have synergy linked to fire on Tifa, then once you use any skill physical or magic then Tifa will follow with a basic Fire spell. She'll never use the more advanced versions and she has to have an ATB charge for it to work.

Not worth it imo

Interesting. So synergy sounds relatively useless. Good to know. I assume first strike isn't that useful either, since whoever you're maining can get up to a bar fairly quickly by just attacking.

I use another linked slot for auto-cure linked with cure, though no idea if you need a linked slot for it. How does the synergy materia work? Link it with something, and another party member casts a different spell when yours goes off? Seems odd.

As for Shiva, fighting it with a full party would have been much easier I assume. I had elemental linked with fire on Cloud's weapon, and cast fira a few times to up her stagger, but she sometimes flew around so fast, that fira would miss.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to struggle against the sleep-inducing creatures too. My first game over actually came via Reno in the church. Got careless/greedy, and went to full-on into damage, EMP mines basically did me in since he comboed me right after. Aside from the 2 Shiva defeats, that was my only game over so far though!

The easiest thing to abuse is elemental weaknesses with the elemental materia. Throw elemental/fire on Cloud's sword and give Aeris a levelled up Fire materia and watch Shiva melt.

I thought I had the battle system relatively figured out. But some battles in chapter 8 proved to me that that's not quite the case.

Took me 3 tries to beat Shiva. Her whipping around the battlefield didn't help, and I couldn't dodge any of the ranged moves, as they all seemed to hone in on me (though I was able to dodge a blizzara/aga or two).

I fought that souped up version of the smogger later on too, and almost got my head caved in. Got a couple punisher counters, which helped, but it didn't seem easyish at all. Even those 3 creatures at the grave gave me issues, though that was more because of the sleep stabs.

Conversely, Rude wasn't too bad. Maybe I'm just better with the one on one battles that are more melee-based. The grab and counter attacks caught me at times.

Playing on normal difficulty.

Lightning+elemental materia on Tifa's gloves made fighting Air Buster sooooo fun. That, combined with the remastered boss theme, has been my highlight so far (in chapter 8 currently).

I've beaten OG FF7 more times than I can count, so I kept telling myself this would be different and to not compare things to the OG if I could. Battle system is awesome, and Tifa is definitely my favourite to manually control. Only issues I have with it are that the camera can get locked in an annoying spot when fighting enemies against a wall, and the other party members' ATB gauges charge so slowly in comparison. Also, I changed target lock switching to the dpad, as I kept accidentally switching targets when I really just wanted to move the camera.

Definitely agree with those loving the weapon upgrade system. Definitely not enough slots for all the materia they throw at you, but I'm okay with that. Makes you actually have to think and decide what works best. Cloud is mainly a mage hybrid currently, as I mostly main Tifa as a physical powerhouse (with thundara if necessary), and Barret as a healer/range fighter. Aeris is going to be that when she's with me, mostly out of necessity.

But yeah, loving this game so far. I'm a little annoyed with the ghosts and whatever significance they pose, but I don't hate it. Who are your favourites to manually battle with so far?

Speaking of, holy shit that fight. First off, when the legit boss theme kicked in, I just entered the action screen just so I could listen to it a bit. Fucking loved it. And that was a fight done right. Challenging in the right areas (playing on normal), requiring some strategy, and tanky without feeling super overly so. Had a lot of fun fighting it!

Played deep into chapter 4. Scorpion gave me a few issues, but mostly because I was still learning the battle system (didn't guard at all, oops). Never was in danger of dying though.

I was suuuuuper not prepared for early motorcycle chase, that shit was crazy! Roche is crazy and hilarious at the same time.

Also good lord is Jessie suuuuuuper thirsty for Cloud. Literally doesn't even hide it when they get back to the slums lol.

Very much enjoying it so far. I think I did all the sidequests in chapter 3.

Mine is downloaded and ready for play. 17 minutes!! I know some of the spoilers, but everything looks rad and the gameplay looks awesome as well. I'm going to focus on that, and hope that the story can still be dealt with later on.

Spoilers: Since we kill the "ghosts" or whatever that control the original timeline, it opens up episode 2 to basically anything. Yeah that can be terrible as they may take it in a completely different direction. But they can also keep a bunch of certain big things as well. I wonder if they did this so that they can gauge reactions, and go based on that for the next one. Not saying it's right or good, just a thought.

Can't speak for any American cities/states, but the Canadian city I live in has 4 access points where you can go to get tested, if you have symptoms. All covered. Only major issue here is the same as most other places: toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and kleenex being out. Thankfully, I had a bunch anyway, and I'm sure there will be new shipments shortly (and less people panic buying, as a lot of it has happened already).

GOT HIM!

Killed him during my first try this evening, though if he had gotten one more hit off, I was quite dead. Parried his opening flying attack, then got a couple two handed swings in to stagger him, and one more for good measure. That started the battle off right, and I was able to hit and run to whittle his health down. Got another parry, but wasn't able to riposte for some reason.

For those wondering, yes I linked the fire. I didn't know that you could actually walk away from it until my friend told me afterwards. Cool ending cinematic, then I was back in the Northern Asylum cell again. Killed the Asylum Demon just for fun (though he seemed to have more health, as I had my endgame equipment), which took 5-6 hits. Not going to go through the whole thing again though, at least not yet. Going to play Halo 5 to give myself a break, and then likely start in on Dark Souls 2: SotFS. Going to watch a Let's Play of the DLC part, as I've heard it's quite good. In terms of quick boss rankings, from best to worst, factoring in overall experience:
