Can we please stop this narrative in which Bernie is the only one with a shot at beating Trump when most objective metrics I've seen suggest Biden has the better shot (really I would put them effectively equal) and also the x-factors suggest that Biden's numbers would more effectively carry over to the general.

I would prefer Bernie as president but it seems ludicrous to me to claim him as the only chance.

I think it's pretty much reality. Biden will tank in the head to head matchup polls with Trump once he's the nominee.

Conservatives follow the letter of the law. Progressives follow what they feel the law should mean today. Basically the difference.

If it is 7-2 the next Democratic president will just pack the court. And half the country will be outraged while the other half of happy. Same as always

Yeah, if you can actually pass all those ideas that Bernie wants, to the extent they are constitutional, the Supreme Court isn't going to stop them. The wealth tax is probably unconstitutional and you'll need a constitutional amendment for that, but, again, the Supreme Court isn't going to stop you from getting one.

Because if you let Trump appoint a 7-2 conservative majority Supreme Court good luck having any sort of progressive agenda during your lifetime. If you're okay with that then go ahead and stay home but at the very least you should go vote and write in Bernie Sanders.

The conservative Supreme Court follows the law as written. If you pass constitutional progressive laws they will enforce them, if you want them to enact progressive policies themselves, they will refuse as they should.

That's a good point. I forgot her because she isn't a candidate yet, but she probably is a "primary remaining contender" so she probably should be in the poll. Probably would just LFF Warren and Bloomberg on this board though.

Also, even if you think they are "mistakes" that doesn't mean they weren't caused by stuttering. Here's an example. I'm sitting on a plane. The flight attendant is a couple rows in a front of me with the drink cart. I want a coke. I start thinking about saying it and realize I cannot get that word out. I decide to order water instead and tell myself that maybe water isn't so bad, maybe it's better than coke. Because I would prefer to choose water for some reason like it's healthier, or it's more hydrating, than to admit the real reason: I couldn't say the word "coke."

Actually no, he has specifically said Its not my stutter, my mistakes are mistakes.

https://youtu.be/C4TqVdODCmk

Joe Biden comes of an era where you did everything possible not to let people know you stuttered. And sometimes that involves saying something different from what you really wanted to say, because you couldn't get the right words out. It beats being unable to speak and looking stupid. This was a really important and extremely useful method for me to deal with stuttering.

I think nowadays the environment is more understanding about stuttering but I can definitely see how Biden would prefer to have his gaffes attributed to mistakes than to stuttering.

That said, when speaking of senility, I am not necessarily talking about gaffes like him saying he's running for Senate or "vote for the other Biden." During the debates he seemed to be in a different world from the other candidates, or a different era. He seemed to speak entirely in platitudes and didn't seem to understand how his own policies are supposed to work.

It just means he is not a Democrat. He could be their nominee without being a Democrat.

Good! One freak election from having someone as terrible as Sanders in the White House is way too much. Hopefully his supporters leave the country or fully give up on democracy so we never have this again.

If this was Joe Biden of 1990, maybe. But I think with him being on the edge of senility, there's a big risk that a President Biden just does whatever the Democratic establishment tells him to do. Which means, since they want to preserve their wealth and refuse to do anything to address inequality, but need to appease the anger from the left with the inequality problem, that they will try to blame everything on conservatives, Christians, white people, men, uneducated people, etc. and will propose vicious policies to harm them. I am not confident at all in Biden's ability not to rubber stamp whatever the DNC says.

That's because SC has so many more people than the other early states. By representation in the House:

IA - 4

NV - 4
SC - 7

And both IA and NV were caucuses which have lower turnout.

If Bernie has the popular vote but not the delegates, then I want Bernie. The Dems just spent the last 4 years talking about how an election should have been decided by popular vote, so I want them to stick to that.

If Bernie doesnt have the popular vote, well then I dont think hes going to be able to win the general, so Id rather someone else get the nomination so the Left doesnt have to eat that bullet.

The thing with the primaries is that going by popular vote is extremely unfair to states with caucuses, since they have much lower turnout. It's basically disenfranchising them. I think you have to go by delegate count.

Yes, and they will use that judicial authority to uphold gerrymandering, voter suppression, and revisit intimidation tactics like the census question to attack democracy. All while also ceding more power to the executive, and using their lopsided Senate majority (whose bias will only increase in Rs favor in years to come) to block any legislation that could challenge them.

This isn't fearmongering, this is all stuff that is already happening and easily verified.

So you have to ask: what is the electoral solution, and if there isn't one, where is the revolution?

The electoral solution is to actually try to win votes from the electorate, and not just from people who don't vote!

Democrats have this thing about hyping up whoever is the leader of the Republican Party of the day as a monster, and then deciding after he's out of power that he wasn't so bad after all because the next guy is worse. This kind of treatment is not going to endear Republicans to you - you'll be viciously attacked no matter what you do, so at some point it becomes more advantageous to not even try to gain support from Democrats.

Trump really isn't bad unless you're an illegal immigrant or part of the government bureaucracy. There's little question life has improved for virtually everyone else since Trump took office.

Yes, his base. But not the Republicans who aren't part of his cult. The ones that held their nose and voted for Trump because Hillary was the other option.

A lot of Democrats will energize them to vote against the Democrat.

I don't think Biden can beat Trump. He is a walking gaffe. All the Dem candidates are extremely flawed in the moderate lane.

Yeah.....150 million people died of gun violence in the US? That would be half our population.

Hot take: Trump and Clinton were both medium strength politicians electability wise

I'm absolutely convinced that Hillary would have smoked Rubio or Cruz.
