It's a great way to open up the gameplay, since different weapons have different benefits/drawbacks and its almost fully configurable how you use them. I'm still using the Buster Blade for boss fights since it has the highest attack damage at the moment, while I grind out Triple Slash And one of my least favorite things about RPGs in general is having a weapon become completely obsolete not long after getting it because you get a brand new one. This was what I meant as far as clunky. Outside of battle it just doesn't feel smooth. I put about seven hours into it tonight and I really enjoyed myself so it's turning around. I plan on playing the original on my switch when I'm done with this so we'll see how they compare. The way everything handles in that game is so far and away superior to this. There's only a few things that I can pinpoint and they may seem nitpicky... but Midgar feels lifeless and dull to me. The pre-rendered backgrounds of the original felt like they jumped off the screen with every single inch of the visible surface having had a ton of care put into it. The backgrounds in this one seem copy pasted on a small budget without a high attention to detail. And everything feels clunky to me. Maybe games like Breath of the Wild and MGSV have spoiled me, but moving Cloud around feels so... well, not intuitive. And the dialogue is just... it's not tight or sharp. Some of it feels so weird. I do really enjoy the battle system, for the boss fights anyway. For everything else it seems kind of repetitive. Maybe that'll change the further I get but who knows.
