nope, that's just a strawman that TC is pathetically clinging to because i called out what a lame gimmick he has of making topics that are "is [some random shitty indie band that no one's ever heard of] the [hugely successful critically acclaimed and well recognized band from some time in the past] of our generation?" including a topic about some random post-punk band and R.E.M., who made one post-punk album as their debut album and that no one ever identifies as a "post-punk band"

lmao what. they're always identified as a post-punk band. that's what they are. 80s jangle pop was post-punk.

also you were like the only person in that topic who'd never heard of Father John Misty. i mean you don't have to like him, but not knowing who he is shows blatant ignorance

honestly, how have you never heard of Father John Misty? he's super critically acclaimed, well known, etc. are you just not a music guy?

(weird thing is, typing this this makes me sound like a fanboy but i'm not even a huge fan of him)

It's weird to me that many people have never heard the term considering the popularity, influence, stature, and seminality of many of the bands of this movement

i mean it could be excused if you only listened to rap, or top-40 music (like DuranofForcena) but otherwise ?

this "is this [random shitty band no one's ever heard of] this generation's [iconic well known band of a bygone musical era]" gimmick you have is really fucking mind-numbingly stupid

half the people in this thread has heard of him...and they're all critically acclaimed

None of the artists I've made a thread about are any where close to obscure. Except Skeggs, they're still mostly a local Australian band. RBCF just had a critically acclaimed debut

Courtney Barnett and FJM are opposite of obscure. FJM is a festival headliner and is very well known

"i'm not aware of music outside of top 40 radio" is a very weird thing to be proud of @DuranOfForcena,

if i'm wrong then one of you guys might want to edit their wikipedia article to display your "correct" information about them

see how long that lasts

dude saying stuff like "R.E.M. wasn't anywhere close to anything related to punk" shows you haven't got a clue about music

anyone with a basic knowledge of rock history would know that. who were their influences? proto-punk, punk, post-punk artists. who were their peers? all the iconic American underground/college rock/post punk bands of the 80s

You can't write the history of American post-punk without REM. Even bios of other post-punk bands make mention of them.

Hsker D and R.E.M. were the two American post-punk bands of the '80s that changed the direction of rock & roll. R.E.M. became a superstar band

https://www.allmusic.com/artist/minutemen-mn0000474482/biography

More than any other hardcore band, the Minutemen epitomized the free-thinking independent ideals that formed the core of punk/alternative music. Wildy eclectic and politically revolutionary, the Minutemen never stayed in one place too long; they moved from punk to free jazz to funk to folk at a blinding speed.... Like their peers Black Flag, Hsker D, R.E.M., Sonic Youth, and the Meat Puppets, the Minutemen built a large, dedicated cult following throughout the United States through their relentless touring.

Jets a great tune. He opened with it when I saw him a few years back and blew the goddamn roof off the place.

Having said that, Paul McCartney is simply peerless. George had some tunes, but the catalogue doesnt compare. All Things Must Pass is pretty much the extent of it.

I cant speak on John Lennon's solo stuff, because as great as his work was with the Beatles, Ive always thought his solo output was garbage and a massive waste of a talented human being. Hate the hits, hate the deep cuts.

lmao. this dude thinks Imagine or Instant Karma are "awful" but thinks "Jet" is a great song. Gotta be a joke poster @Jerry_Hellyeah
