Except Melisandre tended to just have people lit on fire conventionally like you would in the real world. Dany uses dragons who are explicitly shown to destroy stone walls. No one is logically surviving long enough to suffer more from than from any other standard method of execution used in the series, at least not on the days where we're not pretending dragon breath doesn't work the way it's shown to for reasons. Her execution of the Tarlys was much more an act of intimidation ("remember this dragon that nuked you guys? It does exactly what I say") than of abnormal cruelty. They literally collapse dead in under five seconds and are practically disintegrated within ten. Beheading doesn't necessarily kill you any faster than that! SevenTenths posted...
I am literally someone who believes that Daenerys in the books should become a villain eventually because her arrogance, self-righteousness and desire for vengeance is already an often nasty combination and there's plenty of groundwork laid for her whole "pay evil unto evil" mentality to start getting a lot more liberal with how she considers evil. Doesn't mean that literally any evil action is automatically in character. And with the show in particular, you can clearly see that doing nasty things to bad people is not an automatic sign that someone will start doing them to hundreds of thousands of innocent people - see Arya, who hasn't killed as many people but who has made sure to very personally make some of her victims suffer solely for the sake of it. --- Meow! |

Her dragons fire breath melts people and has enough kinetic energy to literally blow apart fortified city walls. This isn't a particularly brutal method of execution, it's pretty damn quick, just looks nasty. Well, maybe. Dragon breath is a horrifying slow burn torture whenever the writers are in the mood for doing a "look how bad war is" scene, but an instant nuke at all other times so who knows what the fuck. On average I'd say her dragon breath executions are still less brutal and certainly less deliberately cruel than some of the shit Arya got up to, whose whole plotline of going off the deep end turned out to be a big fake out for her actually just being the coolest superbadass ever. --- Meow! |

I've only read the first 3 books and read about some of the stuff that happened on the show and that always seemed the logical end of Dany to me. Though I also didn't like her much. It's not a logical end for her at all. And I'm someone who thinks based on the books that her being a villain in the end is the most logical outcome. Villain doesn't mean "person who just randomly does evil things because they're evil". The problem is that her turn to villainy wasn't consistent with the type of villain that she has actual set up to become. Dany is vengeful towards people who have wronged her and brutal towards her enemies, which she tends to define as anyone who fights against her or who hurts the innocent. A Daenerys whose definition of "enemy" starts to get more and more broad as her arrogant and self-righteous side takes over would make perfect sense. And even in episode 6 where she's talking about how it's her duty to free the oppressed and slay the oppressors and leaving it open for "oppressors" to basically be "anyone with any sort of power who doesn't kiss my ass enough" and she knows better than everyone what's best for them you're getting the kind of villain she makes sense to become. But her episode 5 massacre where she just starts mowing down hundreds of thousands of innocents and goes out of her way to torch a street that is empty aside from a few children and their mother trying to escape doesn't fit with that at all. She has too much of her self-image invested in the whole protector of the innocent thing. Wiping out enemy prisoners who surrenders? Sure. Going to extreme lengths to win a battle even if it causes a ton of collateral damage? Yeah, I can see that. Responding to the surrender of a city by largely ignoring the person she has a direct personal grudge against in favour of nuking civilians for lulz? Nah, that's a different type of villain than the one she had the groundwork laid to become. --- Meow! |

| Panthera 06/07/20 3:10:06 PM #45 | Second floor is probably the worst part, Snowman's Land is dull, Tiny Huge Island has a neat gimmick but I never liked the actual level, Wet Dry World is alright but nothing special, and Tall Tall Mountain is maybe the worst offender (and certainly the worst of the non-water levels) of Mario 64's biggest flaw, its fondness for just making you run through the same boring emptiness repeatedly on your way to the parts where you actually get to have fun. Down in the basement Lethal Lava Land is one of the best levels, Shifting Sand Land is mostly meh but at least has the pyramid, Hazy Maze Cave is fine and it has a Bowser level. Dire Dire Docks sucks but it's not enough to drag down everything else. Also I can sympathize with disliking Rainbow Ride because it has some real dull parts, but Tick Tock Clock is great --- Meow! |
